Convince me why this isn't the best code editor ever created.
Pro tip: You can't

Meme editor.

B-But Emacs Lisp is great.

You mean "best desktop environment"
>>59685866
He asked for reasons why it's not the best, not for why it is.
>>59685894
Yep we just need a kernel done.
>>59685896
Yeah, that's exactly what I did
>>59685824
You have to tune it up on yourself.
Once set up, it's best, though.
Great OS, just lacks a decent editor
>>59685824
I can't activate it with CIA nigger's license.
>>59685824
I can't, it truly is the best.
>>59685824
because Vim exists.

Jed is a nice editor if you want a fast emacs on crappy hardware but I guess the days of worrying about memory and cpu for editors are over.

>>59685824
I can't. GNU Emacs is da best.
>>59685824
scripting in any c-like language would be better... no one know lisp now.
>>59685824
Needs lots of configuration and tinkering, the out of the box experience is horrible.

EMacs (i mean gnu/emacs) is great. as is the whole open source free software thing.
BUT, this concept is being taken over by GitHubs Atom open-soruce free text editor and also by Googles Fuchia microkernal, which is also open source, free and available Git. In my estimation, these companies, especially Google with Fuchia, will dominate the Open Source free OS world shortly when IoT becomes more widespread (whatever that means). GNU will loose grip to Google open source.
>>59686813
If that were true there wouldn't be so many packages available. That said, it is possible to use other languages it just wouldn't be pretty.
>>59687146
That's true but once you've configured most of your setup it's amazing.
>>59688040
Atom is being entirely btfo by VSCode.
>>59686561

Acme is a failed experiment. Emacs will always be the superior environment and GNU Emacs will always be the best of the inferior clones.
This is quite an interesting comparison. The standard editors used by real people do well, the new shit obviously gets entirely rekt.

(((Microsoft))) - right
>>59688371
It seems pretty widely agreed upon that it's the better editor. Its built on a stupid stack the same as Atom but actually (somewhat) works.
>>59686561

I bet you don't even know what those words mean

I don't know why you think it is hard. Maybe you are a brainlet

Emacs can emulate Acme completely.
Acme cannot emulate Emacs completely.
Therefore Emacs is strictly more powerful than Acme.
QED
>>59685824
It's a horrible fucking editor, but a decent IDE
>>59685824
*blocks your path*
>>59685824
It isn't modal
>>59685824
It isnt vim
>>59690411
You have to use your mouse.
Yes, Acme is an interesting joke.
>>59692105
>vim impeding your progress
sounds about right
>>59685824
Doesnt it have a bazillion of ctrl + ... combinations and shit ergonomics? I dont want to walk around with an emacs cheat sheet just to type up some scripts
