Xiaomi's phones look so nice. I really want to get one but I'm worried about English and long term support on them. Do they get OTA updates often? Also do they work on US carriers out of the box?

Chinese phones tend to have limited support for US LTE bands. They usually will simply not work at all for Verizon/Sprint since those carriers use CDMA and most chinkphones are GSM only.

If you're using AT&T you want bands 2, 4, 5, 17. You could probably get away with just having 4 and 17 though.

If you're on T-Mobile you want bands 2, 4, 12. 4 being the most important and 12 being important for bigger cities and faster speeds.

The only Xiaomi phone that supports these frequencies is the Mi Note 2.
http://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_mi_note_2-8014.php

You can get other models which just support band 4, which will have limited but usable support for LTE. But it won't be ideal. Most Xiaomi phones dont support band 4 and thus you will not get any LTE service on the device in the US.

Why is it that Lineage officially supports meme phones like pic related but can't support officially actually popular phones like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, the Zuk Z2, the Pixlel phones or the Galaxy S6 (yes it's an Exynos, but there is only one phone for the whole world, how hard can it be when there are tens of millions of users). It doesn't make any sense.
>>
>>59675723
It depends if the kernel sources and drivers are available. Samsung is notoriously hostile to developers (especially with Exynos devices) and refuses to release the required information to port custom ROMs to the S6.

Stuff like the Pixel should have unofficial lineageos already and official should just be a matter of time. The other two will depend on if the manufacturer is releasing the required information to create the port.
>>
>>59674157
>Xiaomi Mi 6
Is that thing legit? Because I would be very disappointed if it was just an April fool.
>>
>>59675723
Exynos are some of the worst CPUs to make roms for. You don't have drivers for anything or nearly anything, and when you do they mostly don't work, so you have to rewrite your own. Even if it's only one phone, it's a colossal endeavor when you don't have the source at all.

I just preordered a Galaxy S8 Plus as an upgrade from Nexus 6 (2014). N6 was feeling kinda sluggish since it update to 7.0. AT&T got them on display today and it was pretty sexy. They tried to sell me the wireless charger for $69 but I found it on eBay for $8 lol. It also came with the new VR as a preorder bonus. Might be cool.

How much of an upgrade will this be from my N6?

When will they learn? It's Android, it was always sluggish, the lag was always there, and you either don't get updates at all or they turn your phone into a potato. And for some reason you guys expect it to change.

My 5s is still as fast as ever on 10.3.

I was talking about Android in general, since even the flagship devices of every generation stutter here and there.

I dunno man, the only real advantage of Android for me was the ease of rooting and system-wide adblocking, maybe the openness of the FS as well if it's your cup of tea.

Other than that, the functionality is identical, and your device gets all the updates for 3+ years.

So i'm starting to get left behind on the mobile phone game.

Right now I have a BlackBerry Q10. It's a fantastic phone for texting, email and business. it's still pretty damn fast too. However the small screen is starting to annoy me. Also hardly any apps exist for it. I know I can sideload Android apps. The thing is that some of them work well and others don't. So I'd rather just upgrade to a phone where the apps are native.

This is where I'm not sure what to do. I've had Android phones before and they're okay. But i've always wondered what it would be like to have an iPhone. I've never owned an Apple product in my entire life and I've never been bothered by it. But a lot of my friends use iMessage and I feel so left out by not being able to use it too.

TL;DR: Should I upgrade to an Android phone or an iPhone? If Android, which one?
>>
looking to upgrade from the Note 3.

I love this thing but the charging port is starting to get very picky on what angle the charging cord is used at.

I wish I could keep this thing forever, hell I might even buy another Note 3. I just can't get rid of this thing.

Well, last thread someone recommended the Pixel XL, but I heard it was shit, so whats the deal? I don't really use google's services and I don't want bloatware on my phone.

I also don't care for fingerprint scanner/face detection or waterproof shit, since I've literally never dropped anything ever of mine.

Think it's worth upgrading my trusty old(well, ancient really) HTC Desire HD to Android 4.3.1 or something along those lines?

I love the little guy and I don't have any need to buy a new phone, but I thought it might be fun to get some extra functionality out of it. If only because almost no apps are supporting 2.3 these days. Even if I could easily run it.

It's rooted and running an old version of Cyanogenmod I installed a few years ago now.

The tracking number is for their international shipping firm Netherlands Post NL. Check the tracking number here (it should start with "R" I think): http://www.postnl.post/

If it says "pre-advised", then the package is on it's way to Netherlands Post's shipping chain and will be trackable there later.

PS: when my package said "dispatched", I actually got a picture of the package and the country code. Pic related.

Slow piece of shit on top of being gimped by SD808, shitty keyboard compared to any other BlackBerrrys, build quality issues, unlocked version is GSM only, and no Nougat timeline/still on Marshmallow (does still get monthly security patches as soon as they're available however). >>
If you could only choose between the standard moto g5 or a g4 plus, which one and why?
(Both with the same price, 2gb of ram and 32gb of storage)
>>
>>59678480
having owned a G4 Plus, I'd go with the G5.

the G4+ got seriously hot when charging, and maybe it was just my unit, but the adaptive brightness was whack.

The G5 will get updates for longer (probably? hard to tell with Lenovo), and the fingerprint reader doesn't look as bad as that stranger square one on the G4 (plus it has gesture support). Also, it has removable battery and the 625 should give you pretty good battery life, though I never found the battery on the G4 to be that bad.

If I were you I'd spring for the 4GB version on either model if you can swing it.
>>
>>59678533
OK, disregard the processor talk in my post, just found out the normal G5 doesn't have the 625

the other points should remain though
>>
>>59678560
The 617 in the G4 was infamous for overheating. The base G5 has a Snapdragon 430, which isn't high end but it is cool and efficient and should be plenty fast for everyday use.

The fact that it won't have to throttle down from heat should mean better and more consistent performance as well.

Guys, I need help. My Z1 Compact is dying one issue at a time, I'm on my 5th battery because 2 came pre-fucked and I'm starting to think that this replacement one is on the broken side too. Long story short: looking for a new phone.

Budget is 200-400€. Good developer support is a must, I don't wanna replace my phone for a while and I love custom ROMs.
I'd love something on the smaller side, but I've already went through compact options and I'd like to avoid both Sony and galaxy A5.
Please no AMOLED screens, I've developed a silly pokemon go habbit and the GUI will burn in in a matter of weeks. Screen doesn't need to be extremely high-res, I'd honestly rather avoid anything over FHD since it just seems pointless.
A good battery is a plus.
Low SAR ratings would be great too, but that's not really common criteria info so I can look into it myself.

My country is Slovenia, anything that generally works in Europe should be fine.

My Xperia Z3 looks like is going to die soon, so I need to decide something new to get. Price is not an issue as long as it can last me at least 3 years. I live in UK right now, but soon I'll have to go in Japan and Italy for several months, so something that works with the networks there. Waterproof or not shouldn't be an issue, body must not be plastic. Physical keyboard is a huge plus, but not required. Also, high internal storage (at least 64gb) is a must, since the piece of shit I currently have has only 15gb of which only 300-400 mb free, for I have no idea what reason.

I was thinking to just get an iPhone at first, but Android's keyboard is leagues better

Incredible consistency of well designed epidemiological studies over the last 30 years, and low level observations of calcium flux following pulsed field exposure at microwave frequencies.

Reviews to start with:
http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0891061815000599
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3780531/
Also:
http://www.bioinitiative.org/

Specifically, look into the effect of pulsed fields at ELF to upper microwave frequencies on calcium flux (activation of voltage gated calcium channels), and subsequent increased NO production and generation of peroxynitrite. Look into decrease in pyramidal cell dendritic arborization, altered synaptogenesis, and decreases spine density in hippocampal neurons. Look into increases in blood brain barrier permeability. Look into decreased fertility (mishapen sperm with damaged DNA), and immune system changes.

A simple google search for "microwave dendritic arborization" will bring up a lot on its own.

Yet I doubt you drive 110 mph down the road whenever you think it'll be fun. It's because there are tangible consequences you can visualize and understand intuitively. It is not the same with slow bodily damage over time.

>>
>>59680905
Pretty easily. If I ever need to communicate with someone, generally, I'll know where they are and I just use a phone in a store or whatever somewhere. Sometimes it's corded, sometimes not. I don't form relationships that need an element of constant connection.

Just think back before you had a cell phone. How did you get by? Watch some old shows from the 50's and 60's, how did they get by and maintain reasonable efficiency? Same deal. Although one thing I do dislike is that phone hardware is unfortunately among the best implementations of modern ARM processors available. Part of me would like something fast, small, and efficient for mobile computing. Though the desire is more of a curious "what if" than any kind of drive. I keep everything I need in my head, I can listen to all my music in my head, all the videos I might want to watch, etc.

In summary, anything that uses microwave frequencies, especially as pulsed fields (digital transmission), ie, cell phones, wifi, bluetooth, smart meters, certain types of radar, activates voltage gated calcium channels yielding deleterious effects.

>>
>>59682256
It's not about outliving your peers. You, probably, aside from the development of an aggressive cancer or spontaneous cardiac arrest, don't simply remain fine for years and years and then just drop dead one day. It's a slow decline that you don't readily notice as your brain cells die off, dendritic arborization and spine density decreases, some cells are rendered asynaptic, DNA damage reaches a point where cells are dysfunctional, your blood brain barrier has become permeable and your brain is colonized by various species of fungi, etc. It's a slow wasting death where you lose yourself bit by bit. This shit ain't a fantasy, this is the real world. There is no clean and philosophically pleasing death. Just slowly accumulating damage.

Also, after 3 - 6 generations we very possibly will be incapable of producing viable offspring. That's exactly what happened to mice put in test conditions similar to modern human exposure. They ceased being able to reproduce after a period of a high rate of defective offspring.

You people just don't get it. Ever see the episode of the Twilight Zone, number 12 looks just like you? When she realizes they're incapable of comprehending what she's saying. Very easy to empathize with.

Oh right, I totally forgot. How could I not use my clairvoyance and figure out that about you? HA, FUCK ME RIGHT?

What annoys me is that people are trying to have a discussion about phones and learn but you just chime in with your little shit comments that no one was asking for. And if it was once, it would be okay but you've done it to multiple comments, multiple times and it's annoying to see it like every third comment.
>>
>>59683158
Unfortunately there's not much to teach. Don't use a cell phone, don't have or use wifi in your house (make sure you modem stops emitting entirely, some leave the wifi carrier signal active even when disabled. In this case just wrap the antenna in multiple layers of aluminum foil), reduce exposure as much as possible. If you have a smart meter for your electricity, try to get its wireless module removed. Some people shut off their electricity at the breaker when they sleep, I don't bother. I don't have a routine. If you live in a place with a lot of neighbors, or near a cell tower, power lines, etc, try to go somewhere else. Some people have success with paints that contain graphite, though if there's an emitter within the room, or a source outside a window, again, this will cause the signal to bounce around inside.

Other than that, try to get proper sleep. Good diet, exercise, etc.

I live away from people and there's no cell signal or wifi, but I work using wireless devices everyday. No real choice. I hate it and feel trapped, and I'm sick of interfacing with the false reality other people seem to be living in.

I've been awake at least 38 hours now. I'm leaving soon. Any further questions should come quickly.
>>
>>59683202

You kind of need a properly functioning hippocampus for that. You would have a much easier time if you didn't use wireless devices. And I'm going to make damn sure you develop an accurate conception of the nature of your actions, and your everyday.

>stemming from your inferiority complex
I don't have an inferiority complex, I have an outsider complex, which can include knowledge of inferiority but doesn't contain it as a core structural element. I've lived a very atypical life, still live very differently than anyone I ever meet, and I'm incapable of meaningfully connecting with my environment and other people. At one point this was a mix of protecting other people, thinking I was sparing them a burden, and cowardice. At this point the way I operate and my value system is just too different, at the core there's irreconcilably sharp contrast. Everywhere I look. I don't have any ties and I don't have any lasting place in anything. I haven't for a long time.

You see things better as an outsider, from a detached and alien perspective. Less clutter.

>It's obvious that you need to think
I don't need to anything. I do know more than you. I am more honest than you. And I do care about the truth more than you. If it was different you would've, and should've, shown me different. You didn't, and you won't, because it isn't. And that's just the way it is. I've been studying biochemistry, molecular biology, and pathology, for more than a decade. Most of my drive was to fix my own health problems.

>You're just as brain damaged as me, bro.
Possibly more. Possibly significantly less, in the ways that matter. It's irrelevant. One of us takes care of themselves based on the available data, the other doesn't. That much is inarguable. One of us is wrong and living a fantasy. It's you.

>eat food
My diet is practically engineered, iteratively, over many years. By necessity, and probably better than any other poster in this thread. You included. Feel good Anon, you can go out to eat or buy some garbage at a convenience store if you get hungry. I generally starve until I can go home.

Ever watch the show Columbo?

Oh, and, just one more thing Anon. Just one more thing. Real quick, won't take more than a moment. Thank you sir. Now let's see... Wait a second... what was it.... I'm pretty sure it had something to do with memory. Dendrins... dendrils, ah yes that's right, I recall now. The dendritic spines are altered with exposure to wi-fi and GSM 1800 frequencies, leading to impaired memory. Let me just see if I can dig out...
ah, right where I left em, on my clip board. Here it is.

Now would you just look at that. Some pretty interesting stuff, and it doesn't look to good for you and your hobby, but I don't know. Something to keep in mind I guess.

To the people who own a "flagship" phone:

What do you guys even do with your phones that warrants such strong hardware or a huge screen?

I need a new phone and considered buying a Oneplus 3t, but then I only use my phone for making calls, browsing the web and texting. Such a good phone would pretty much be a waste for that, right?

Currently thinking about getting the Huawei P9

Mi4C can be unlocked without contacting xiaomi by using "fastboot oem unlock". I think you need to be on dev rom for it to work, basically you need to use EDL mode to flash one of the roms it works on with and then use the fastboot oem unlock then flash twrp + whatever you want.

Hey,

so I just got my Redmi 4A and an LTE/4G data plan with 1gb.

1. Is there a way to force my phone to give open/available WLAN connections a higher priority than using my carrier's internet?
I want to save as much of that 1gb as I can and while I'm at home and have my own WLAN + internet, I wouldn't need my phone to use up my data cap anyway.

2. This question is a bit silly, but still: If you google "pornhub" or other more adult oriented site names, does it give you a direct link to that site (*******.com) or just some related news posts, but never the site itself? Because in my case, the latter happens.

3. Would you recommend a case or a screen protector for the 4a? If so, which one did you get and how is it holding up so far?

Cheers.

1. WLAN is given priority over mobile data as long as you've connected to it before and it's in your saved networks

2. You might have "safe search" on in Google settings. For me pornhub.com is the first result when searching for "Pornhub"

3. Don't think the Redmi 4A has gorilla glass so I'd use a glass screen protector at least. Don't bother with the plastic film ones, they're shit.

4. I use my real Gmail account for my phone account for convenience but using a throwaway account is fine too. Just remember your account details so you don't get locked out of your phone!
