Prepackaged desktop environments are generally not good. Please follow the Unix philosophy and get every piece of your desktop from the best provider. There is no reason that a file manager, a terminal, and a window manager should all come as a package.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. I like both Cinnamon and XFCE, switch between both on a regular basis.

Shitty thing is upgrading Debian to stretch broke some themes and made me reconfigure the whole thing. Oh well.

Have a Linux question/Issue, didnt really see another thread i could post it to so here go's.

Installed Kali on my raspberry pi 3 (the ARM one from the Kali website)
works great, but then ran cmd to install full version, went through the process and all, but after reboot, just gives me a blinking cursor on boot up. any ideas? I know ill have to reinstall it but the download of the full version takes forever, just dont want to go through it a bunch of times trying to figure this out.

Read up on shit you're clearly severely lacking in knowledge. All you need to do is boot from a live USB and click an icon to run a GUI installer.

Not him, but this is the main issue. Awesome does a lot of awesome stuff, but the tradeoff for getting awesome feature X is, quite often, outweighed by how much bullshit and configuring needs to be done in order to get it. The whole damned thing is configured via config files and its own plugins, all of which is lua. There's a reason why i3, while arguably not as "feature rich" as Awesome, seems to be much more popular.
