This is only an issue for people who use HTCs shitty viveport, which was designed for the chinese mostly. If you're getting the headset in america you're probably going to use it with steam, and if htc tries to do anything on a firmware level, you can bet valve would drop them as their main hardware partner for SteamVR. Hell, LG is already making a headset that is better than the vive. It isnt HTC vs Oculus, it's steamVR vs Oculus
