>route noun UK /ruːt/ US /ruːt/ /raʊt/
>router noun UK /ˈruː.tər/ US /ˈraʊ.t̬ɚ/
I'm not a native English speaker but the way burgers bastardized this fine language disgusts me.

As in Route 66?
In communications the word route is pronounced to rhyme with doubt. For a reason.
Its homonym "root" can cause confusion, especially on Unix systems.
