I remember the war I had with my teachers when I decided to abandon cursive in 4th or 5th grade in favor of writing everything in capital letters. I had a very nasty handwriting which frustrated me because I often couldn't even read what I wrote myself. After I got used to it everyone started borrowing notes from me, especially in college.
I never understood the resistance. It certainly didn't help me in any way.

That's natural. Cursive is the way it is because it was made to write faster. And this is coming from the anon who prefers and writes everything in capitals.

In my case it looked clear at the beginning, because after so many years taking notes quickly and trying to not stain my hands with ink for being left handed, I can't even understand now my own writing.

It's a losing trend, nowadays most teachers give up after the handwriting is readable enough and leave it at that. But cursive writing is still taught in every European country (?).

funny you would ask that;

When I lived in a larger city I had to learn that, and they called it the 'new' way. Some teachers would write it the >>59622643 way, and learned us that that is how they had learned it longer ago.

When I then moved to a smaller town at about 10, we where learned to use the >>59622643 way, when I asked our teachers about it they said that the new way was far from 'official', and that I should learn the old way.

I didn't even think of the 'new' way when reading that first image, funny how they really did learn me the new way.

In russian, like half the most commond cursive letters are similar to "u" but with varying amount of strokes, and then you only have the little connecting strokes to differentiate the boundaries (which are of course completely indiscernible in fast cursive writing).

Then another half, when written fast enough, gets corrupted to a similar shape, and then you have to use context and/or pick up on the fact that it's a badly written letter that should look different.

And since at this point you're basically writing "uuuuuuu" in a smooth motion, any remaining letters that can't be conveniently corrupted into this shape disrupt your motion and thus come out as a fucking clusterfuck with no relation to its intended shape.

Then you have letters with high or low strokes (like "f" or "g" respectively in the latin alphabet, I forgot the technical name for that) and they serve as the only landmarks.

Well, learned cursive in 2nd grade, got bitched at and failing grades for 3 years because my cursive is illegible, get into the 5th grade where the teacher literally just wanted to read whatever she was given so she didn't care about how it was written, my printing (wha the fuck is normal non cursive writing called?) is close to robotic, while my cursive gets lazy and illegible as fuck.

I can't see a use for cursive now that we have ballpoint pens, fountain pens with cartridges/converters, and the tip to either pen or pencil is suited for printing as much as it is cursive.

I have never picked up someone's cursive writing and was able to read it without immense difficulty because no one writes neat.

Its also FAR easier to read printed characters then cursive, otherwise we would have cursive fonts be the norm.
>>
>>59623861

OTOH Korean Hangul is a piece of art. You have one simple alphabet (and no fucking kanji) consisting of simple symbols representing consonants and vowels (like our Latin alphabet), from which you construct characters representing syllables and then words which are read left to right.
If only the rest of Asia used Hangul. It's even better than Latin desu.

I run into this issue a lot for school. I want to keep everything tidy for reference, but it ends up being too slow. What always ends up happening is some bastardized looking handwriting at the end of each lecture. How do I fix this?
>>

>funny you would ask that;
Your capitalization and punctuation are wrong.
>[...] I had to learn that, and [...]
The comma is unnecessary here.
>Some teachers [...] learned us that that is how [...]
It's "taught", not "learned".
>[...] we where learned to use [...]
It should be "taught" again and your spelling of "were" is incorrect.
>[...] the new way was far from 'official', and that I should learn the old way.
The entire sentence is unnecessarily long and should be broken up. That comma is superfluous.
>[..] funny how they really did learn me the new way.
You should split the sentence into two at the comma. You used "learn" again when you meant "teach".

It's the most fucked-with language in the world

Being the official or defacto language of just about everything (and everywhere) means it's more "alive" than all others and some of the local bastardisation gets fed back into mainstream use.

This thread is the story of my life. I write in cursive in a country where no one does and we use Cyrillic. Imagine the difficulties teachers had reading my shit, when even I couldn't decipher it. I actually have a few books and newspapers from the thirties that are written like that, including a phrase book for tourists to try to understand that blockly nonsense. When the whole page is in that text, with modern small fonts, it's very dark, it's mostly ink. Some versions are crazy close together, trying to mimic the old type face blocks.

I'm pretty sure it was a nationalist meme to promote Germans only stuff becuse not everything was done that way, and clearly it didn't stick.

how what?

AI to read OP pic?
its just a more complex OCR, while sometimes it seemed that early days ocr was much worse than humans at reading fucking printed Arial fontface, things like OP pic could be instantly digested if a suficiently advanced algorithm were developed for cursive char patterns that analyzed the turns loops on continuous ink segments, by reading any handwriting style just by know how many patterns to diferentiate and the variants of "logical strokes" behind each character.

or how he knows youre a german?
