Looking to set up an old computer as a file server with remote file access for when I'm out and about. Everything google tells me is related to NAS, but that seems more limited than what I'm hoping to achieve. Amahi seems reasonable, what do you guys suggest?
>>
Bump, was trying to do the same thing with an old laptop.
Installed NAS4Free and I could ping the server but couldn't get to the login

Are there additional steps for using a computer instead of a regular NAS?
>>
FTP
>>
Maybe I should broaden the scope of my request. How did you set up your own servers, and with what features?
>>
Xubuntu/Ubuntu mate. Setup SSH keys for login and disable password based authentication.
>>
I installed Gentoo.
