You could not write that script in batch/powershell, and I doubt the supposed bash compatibility layer in Win10 would even work properly.

Can you select multiple files and run them with one script?

I just imagine it being 50x harder on Windows, if even possible.
>>
>>59615683
you know, the way shell scripts work, you could overwrite one of the files mid-operation and end up with 2 duplicates and it would still be a valid operation

also scrambling 4chan post numbers to hide your samefagging that's just sad
even i never did that when i was the biggest cuntiest tripfag on this board

Yep, that's basically the point, to create fake filenames like you saved them from 4chan.

In some smaller imageboard communities people like to embarrass users by searching for their image filenames in the archives so they can bring up stupid posts they've made.

Yes, but it is extremely tedious to add that to the context menu without resorting to third party software to add it in there in the first place. Registry editing is a pain.

No it doesn't, that's what the "while true" loop is for that doesn't break out of it unless that filename doesn't exist

[[ ! -f "$filename" ]] && break

The chances of it happening anyway are astronomically low, you'd have a better chance at winning the lottery big.

I don't care about POSIX compliance or writing for compliance with ye olde ancient shells.

Even if you THINK you're being as compliant as you can with all those old shells, you're probably not. I learned that from Gentoo developers arguing over shell scripting compliance.

>>
yeah, sure you can
>>
>>59615979
yes it is.
I couldn't find the source of your example, but this one is close to that:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/166809/how-can-i-disable-my-webcam
That answer also tells you to disable a specific the webcam the same way, but the first part of the answer is much simpler and closer to what you did on windows:
sudo echo "blacklist uvcvideo" >> /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

Then either reboot or
sudo rmmod uvcvideo

to remove the video driver.

Now you can argue that it is complicated that you need to know the name of a driver or that you need to type rather than click on a thing, but this is not really a task most users should do, only the person who admins the system should do so.

But if and when you come across something that you don't know how to do, searching for the solution is easy and the solution can be pasted and used directly.
What isn't easy is something like the dconf or the regedit systems where they are hard to search for AND hard to apply once you found the "solution".

>He doesn't understand how to create a basic UNIX timestamp in Batch and set it as a filename

Sorry Anon, but you just don't make the cut here. Maybe you should apply for an entry-level position somewhere else.
>>
>>59616132
I don't think dconf is not representative of linux, but regedit is representative of windows.
>>
>>59616160
I suppose that's reasonable.
But then again, once you've spelunked inside the registry enough you get a sense of how things work, archaic and legacy though they may be.

It's a nightmare but doing something like adding an extra contextual menu would be a 5 minute task at most.

The Windows registry is a complete clusterfuck. Adding entries the first time around is extremely tedious. Fortunately you can export reg files so the hard part is always the first time around.
Also, if you want to get a context menu with linux distro-like functionality you have to resort to ricing with bblean or blackbox.
>>
>>59615725
>>59615732
>>59615787
>>59615843

Yes, you can. It can't be done fairly easily in the registry. It been years since I did this but I
distinctively remember making RuneScape private servers as a kid and getting sick of remaking batch files for different tests and compiles. So I used some sequence of steps I followed on a forum guide to add a compile this context menu list. The code took whatever batch script code is for pulling selected right click file name. Then if feeds it to a compile and then runs if you choose or exits.

I'm stoned to be completely honest and can't remember shit. But I promise you, with some searching it's easily done. With bat and Shell too.

To be fair, while figuring out what you need to do might be hard, if you find someone who has solved the same problem you can pretty much just copy-paste the needed line(s) to command line, as opposed to Windows where you often need to navigate through half a dozen menus to change a simple setting.

Forget registry editing. The easiest way to add context menu items is to just dump the file or shortcut into the SEND TO folder.

As far as writing the script, I'd do it in VBS. All it does is generate a random number and rename an input file that? Come on, man...

>not just leaving them as the MD5 filename you got from a booru

i've added a couple things to image context menus. one launches a screen grabbing program, which then immediately gives me the option to upload it to imgur, the other is for my album collections. i have foobar set up to only look for embedded cover art or cover.jpg. it's cleaner than have a million different filename variations for cover art. so if an album comes with a folder.jpg or IMG-001.png i just right click and it converts it to JPEG and saves as cover.jpg into the same directory.

they're very basic things but it proves you can add scripts to context menus just the same.

just write the script so if the extension isn't .jpg, .png, .gif, .tiff, .jaypegg, .superrealimageextension, to exit and do nothing.
also if the script is called with no files selected, the extension won't match and it will quit.

so you press the keyboard shortcut with /bin selected it doesn't rename it to a fake timestamp.

a keyboard binding should be bound, not contextual. Fix the script don't try to dick with dynamically binding and unbinding a script to a keybind based off of selection.

Easy. instead of calling the .bat directly just call a wrapper that executes the script with a hidden window.

if UAC is so weak a scripting program can bypass it, it's not doing anything for you anyway.
That's interesting though, I wonder if they are just hiding the window and automatically pressing OK or actually exploiting some strange windows loopholes to bypass opening the prompt to begin with.

I don't blame you if you don't trust the binary, you can make your own wrapper in C that is a program that takes a parameter, and starts a console window using WINAPI that sets the window properties to hidden.

Almost everything, except the most important part. The GUI is a shitshow and on a modern desktop I spend more time on the GUI then the CLI.

The icons are awful, the menus are awful, you can't customize them, the windows 7 start menu is the most glorious application to ever be created in the history of mankind. feeble unsuccessful attempts to butcher and recreate it in cinnamon and mate don't go unnoticed but fail to capture the true essence of the start menu.

tl;dr fix ur shit interface and make graphics in something other than GNU/paint u fukin software hobos

The Windows start menu is an unnecessary piece of bloatware. If there's any program you use regularly, you should have it pinned to your taskbar; if there's any program you don't use regularly, it's faster to type it into a search box than to click through a bunch of nested pop ups.

And that's another thing: the taskbar is hideous. When will Windows get a dock already, jesus.

Linux is literally better at nothing other than administration and the fact it's open source. That's why it's dominant in the server and embedded device fields. Other than that Windows rules because what else can Linux do better than Windows?

> Security
Lol

> Speed
Of course when your operating system lacks basic features of a modern OS and is basically an ugly user mode shell over a taped together "UNIX but not really UNIX" kernel the performance may seem better.

> Compatibility
:^)

> Usability
:^)

> Applications
This one made me laugh
>>
>>59625788
>There is a reason people use Adobe Photoshop and not GIMP
First of all, that's completely irrelevant to anything I said.

Furthermore, while Photoshop is clearly the superior software, it's about as far from free software as you can possibly get: you have to pay forever for one program. Sure, they keep rolling out updates to justify charging you more than once, but you can't even achieve a flat price by opting out of the updates, because you can't opt out of the updates. (Presumably because then they wouldn't be able to justify stealing all your fucking money.)

And beside all that, here's your reason why people use a windows desktop: because Windows doesn't have anything better. Taskbars are shit, start menus are shit, Windows is shit, and the only thing it's useful for is running programs Wine can't handle.
>>
>>59625832
That's where you're wrong kiddo. Linux is more secure, deals much better with filesystem level permissions, filesystem path not hardcoded to C:\ laid out much more sane. It's actually used in the server environment because it is better at security, speed, and applications.

> Linux is more secure
:^) Give an example of a security feature Linux has that makes it so much more secure than Windows. Also don't try and pull the fallacy that Windows has more vulnerabilities discovered obviously due to the fact Windows is the dominant OS so obviously people are more focused on attacking Windows.

> Better file permission handling
Better is subjective. Being more complicated doesn't make something better btw :^)

> Filesysten path hardcoded to C:\
False Windows can use any letter it just chooses this as default for compatibility something Linux doesn't need to worry about :^). You can change it whenever :^) but you probably didn't know that.

> Its better at security, performance, and applications.

It is open source so someone can strip it down to its smallest form and keep the automation tools. That's why it's used in servers. Linux isn't better at anything but automation and the fact it's open source (I know im repeating myself here :^)) two things anyone with an OS can do really.

>icons on your chrome are actually ok. I'm surprised.
>No process tray, only default system commands.
>Your proces tray if applicable would be an additional overlay arrow at the bottom left of your screen.

So your highly advanced OS removes features and then tells you: ACCCCTUALLY YOU SHOULD BE DOING THINGS MY WAY AND I DON'T REALLY LIKE HAVING A TASKBAR WITH WINDOW LISTS, SO I JUST REMOVED THAT AND THE MINIMIZE BUTTON INSTEAD OF MAKING IT AN OPTION YOU CAN CONFIGURE.

So on windows you have one taskbar that includes, process tray (system and 3rd party programs), start menu (system user control and 3rd party programs), list of all opened windows ON that display (seperate monitors or virtual desktops have their own window listing) always available, and a show desktop button all on one menu.

then on yours it takes up the same space as mine, but does a quarter of that, and it's at the top. I don't know if you can even move it to the bottom or sides.
