LGA1156 has this metal backplate behind the socket, which LGA775 didn't have

so I need to trim this rubber a bit

configuring the fans, updating BIOS and IPMI and all that shit is done through the EFI shell

I actually had to set it to not monitor the fans, because the Noctuas ramp down and spin so slowly that it thinks they're broken

this server is silent as fuck

proxmox booted up just fine and I have my gfur folder again

not to mention email service and owncloud

so I went from 2 cores 2 threads to 4 cores 8 threads, ram went up from 8 to 12 gigs. and of course it's a newer platform overall

I just set up a proxmox machine a couple days ago and it is WONDERFUL. So much easier than manually configuring everything via ssh. Fucking leddit is where I found out about it.

E3110, 8 gigs of ecc ram, works perfectly

they don't seem to go for much anymore on ebay, and the new combo was about 100 eurobucks

if you're running it on proper server hardware with IPMI (like the boards in this itt thread), see https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/High_Availability_Cluster_4.x#Hardware_Watchdogs

tl;dr of that is that I just added the line

WATCHDOG_MODULE=ipmi_watchdog

into /etc/default/pve-ha-manager and proxmox magically configures itself to use the hardware watchdog, so that if the kernel hangs for whatever reason the server automatically reboots
