Post your component list, rate other anons', and ask questions in general.

Always state the purpose of your PC, your budget, AND YOUR COUNTRY if outside the USA.
If you are asking for improvements, clarify whether you want to lower price or to improve specs or build quality.

Assemble your parts list; built-in price comparisons by vendor and a compatibility filter.

thinking of replacing my 670 with a newer card. My pc looks like this

asrock z77
i5 3570k
16gb ram
gtx670
800watt psu

would a 1050 be a worthwhile upgrade? they're about $250 now

Will the 6300 bottleneck?
>>
>>59583477
It's certainly possible but it's going to be a hack job. Like you take a regular case fan and you cut it up so you've just got the central part. Then with this you just stick it with glue to where it should be or whatever.

Unless your 6300 is running at 5.2GHz, yes, but you will still see a performance improvement by going to the new GPU as the 580 is probably your current bottleneck, and upgrading just the CPU wouldn't give extra performance.
Get a new GPU now.
Upgrade to Ryzen 3 when you can afford it.

The primary purposes are to act as a NAS and Plex server for the house. The SSD is obviously for the OS, and the USB drive is for backing up the SSD. The 2TB drives would be run in a RAID 6 array, and the 6TB drive would be for periodic backups of the whole array. The 92mm fan is supposed to replace the fan on the 5 drive hotswap bay.
Is there anything outright retarded with this setup? I've never built a server before, so I'm kinda nervous and would appreciate any help.

Pic related is my current build.

It's three years old, so it's possible for me to make a new build and get a tax return from it (Germanfag here).

My uses include gaming and emulation (currently Nox Android emulation, I could see using Cemu in the future).

But what to upgrade? Upgrading my 4670k doesn't seem very cost efficient for the little gains it actually gets, considering I would have to get a new Mobo, a new CPU and DDR4 Ram.

Should I just upgrade my GPU and postpone upgrading my build for tax returns until Intel/AMD get their shit together? And if so, what GPU should I get?

While I try to like AMD, their GPUs have always been shit for me, with the last two dying around the end of the 2-year warranty (5770 and 7850), while my current GTX 770 is still doing its job after over 3 years.

I'm thinking about getting a GTX 1070. Thoughts?

Hello, need some advice from someone with a good deal of experience. I've been assembling gaming consoles from child. My computer is now almost totally AIO cooled, one on the cpu one on the gpu. They're both mounted in the front of my case. Further more I have 2 ~60 cfm intakes on the top and the PWM fan that comes with the hyper 212 as an exhaust and my gpu being a hybrid blower is also an exhaust.
This thing puts out an ungoly amount of heat. More than my fucking radiator. My 980ti is clocked HIGH at 1500mhz and runs at 60c even with the AIO. My CPU is clocked high, [email protected] and runs at about 50c under my normal load.

Is 60c through an AIO dangerous? All of the ones I've owned in the past never let the part get that hot but the 980ti is a big chip and I have a custom bios. Also I was thinking about mounting the GPU's radiator in the rear exhaust spot yet using it as intake and then reversing both fans on the top to be exhaust. Would that be superior?
Please help me optimize cooling.
Oh and how do I manage the speed of the gpu's radiator fan? Edit the bios?
>>
>>59585193
>the 980ti is a big chip

>>
>>59585193
60c is very dangerous through any cooling solution. In fact, I would panic if my computer ever went above 35c. I have a zero phase change cooling rig that cools both my gpus, (two titan xp) and cpu, an intel 6950x and they never break 20c.

Your computer is probably broken. Consider an RMA.

Been buying EVGA for years. What is or isn't overkill is up to you to decide, but frankly, with their warranty and rock solid customer support, it's kind of a no-brainer. I'm sure within seconds of posting this, MSI and ASUS shills will show up to talk about low quality this and cooler-mis-hap that, but in every single situation, EVGA has replaced the products in question when they fucked up. you can create a chart if you want to, but each and every time, EVGA will come out on top, even with their past mistakes.

>b-stock
>step up
>upgrade options
>extended warranty options
>Advanced RMA options

I dunno man, if i'm gonna spend a few hundred dollars on something, I'd like to know it's going to be backed up incase of failure.

The only other company i'd consider buying from is XFX and that's exclusively for AMD, simply because they're like 4 blocks away from EVGA, used to be part of EVGA, and are a direct competitor to EVGA, and they offer vaguely similar warranty service. Also it's nice being able to call them and get some surfer dude on the phone rather than some chink who can't fucking speak english and has positively alien ideas about what customer service actually is.

Listen, I'm not an intel shill, all im saying is for gaming the 7700k is the best and lets be honest, every body itt is going to be gaming.

I really wanted ryzen to be good, i did, but its not the best, so what the fuck am i supposed to do. quit being a cunt and have some objectivity for once in your life.

If you aren't okay with de-lidding, then buy ryzen and accept you will have inferior fps.

Looking to upgrade my CPU here. Can't decide between the 7700k and 1700, reason being is that I do stream. Now I don't think the 7700k isn't capable, but I've read people saying that oh the 1700 is much better in a streaming environment with less dropped frames and such.

Just one question, in terms of performance and reliability which of these two: noctua nh-d15 or corsair h115i?
>>
>>59589467
Yes it will.

There's a reason why K unlocked processors do not come with any "stock" cooler - because it would not suffice.

With this the manufacturer implies "get whichever aftermarket cooler you deem sufficient".
>>
>>59589508

Big air > AIO. No matter what even if the fans exploded on the d15 you still have a fuckoff huge heatsink bolted to the IHS to cool it.

>>59589516

No, Intel just saw fit to rip the cooler out of the box for kabylake because nobody uses stock cooling on K chips anyway saving them (being Intel) a fair few shekels. The difference is this saving isn't passed onto consumers - you really are paying more for less.
>>
>>59589508
AIO gives better temps until liquid warms up, then its a mess
>>
>>59589508
Both are good.

I believe that the h115 / large rad AIOs will have better temps (marginally) than the noctua,
the noctua ends up being the quieter choice tho, the better AIOs end up costing more than a noctua so there is that

It really just comes down to Coke vs Pepsi, either one is a alright choice.

2) How high is the probability that I will have to replace my PSU once I decide to upgrade graphics card? I didn't really had a choice when I was building my PC (had everything except PSU and 650W was unavailable atm and decided to fuck it)

I'm thinking my MoBo is dead. I switched out my new PSU with my old, functional PSU with a compete rewire, and nothing works.

(The blinking stopped upon further testing with new PSU before switching out. There would just be nothing upon power up, which is same as now.)

My GPU recognizes is has power the moment I flip my PSU open. When I hit the power switch, my CPU light for the LED debug for MoBo flashes very quickly and then dies. It leads me to think this thing is fried.

It already shipped with a nonfunctional PCI slot.

I've never had a dead moBo before l, but I'm thinking it's RIP. I'd be surprised if the CPU was the culprit.

Anyone else doing surgery right now? Something is wrong with my 980ti. Shooting up to 90c and dieing. I'm gonna replace thermal paste with dat good shit and reset the pump.

What about you guys?
Try a new fan configuration maybe you can get higher clocks

Yeah I reflashed stock bios and set everything, clock memory power limit voltage and fan to default.

I'm leaning towards the MSI. The pipe layout seems much more efficient with effectively 6 pipes. (not sure if a cooler difference between it and the gaming X)
With the XFX a very close second. But only has five, but with a wonky layout making one side of the card hotter than the other. This is somewhat bad thermo dynamics. But probably done so only one fan is used in low load times.
And the Nitro+ looks like cheep garbage with only three pipes. BUT it's got thicker fins allowing heat to transfer further over them before radiating. Just like my 1060 in a way. But I cannot recommend it because it's clearly just made cheaply. Not with any real design thought.

So go MSI Gaming X if ya got a few extra bucks to burn. I'm told that "Overclocked" cards are tested to be more of a silicon winner. But I've got no clue on the validly of that.

It's a coin toss between the regular MSI and XFX if you're not clocking.

Consider better RAM and a motherboard that has overclocking. Overclocking boards sell better on the secondhand market. But if you're not clocking and are going to keep it for some time don't stress about the mobo.
Ryzen loves fast RAM. But you'll need a better Motherboard.
I'm not up to date on DDR4. So no recommendations here about that. Other than More MHz and lowest CAS latency that the motherboard you choose will support. But does get pricey.
You SSD is small if you're planning to save games to it. Most SSD's are pretty fast. So maybe a cheaper brand with larger storage will suit you better. I'm using two 250gb Kingston U400's in RAID 0 and it's blazeing fast. Was easy to set up. But can be a daunting thing for a computer novice. But any larger capacity SSD should be fine.
Pic related.
A 3Tb HDD wouldn't go astray either. But you know your storage needs better than I.
You WiFi seems fine. But grab a cheep heatsink for it and thermal glue. Not really necessary, but will make you feel good :D
And you added a stupid expensive keyboard. Go on eBay and get a cheep gaming one.

Or hit up

Ryzen is good.
You want a Taichi motherboard.
You also want RAM with Samsung chips. I don't know if the Vengeance ones have those, but I do know that G.Skill TridentZ is Samsung based.
As the owner of a 750D, I would not recommend Corsair cases. Take this however you want.
Ask yourself if you really need that DVD drive. No, you don't need it to install Windows.
Also ask yourself if you really need that sound card. Chances are that, unless it gives you an output that you need, which doesn't exist on the motherboard, you don't.

hey lads, i had a question.

i currently have a bitfenix prodigy loaded with noctua fans and an nh-u12s. i was going to upgrade in a couple months to some new parts.

6700k or 7700k whichever is the better value at the time
a decent motherboard anywhere from $85 to $120
16gb of ddr4 ram
define mini c case

my question is should i even move the nh-u12s to my new case or should i just buy a cryorig h7? i was thinking about getting the cryorig because it's cheap and i'm lazy. i've looked up benchmarks and the cryorig is literally as good as the nh-u12s which is a bit disappointing since i paid $55 for it and the h7 is only $35.

if i do get the cryorig, i probably won't put new fans in my computer. but i will buy another 140mm fan for the intake. my question is should i just buy another fractal r2 series 140mm fan or are there better options out there? the define mini c has really good noise cancellation but i'm borderline autistic with noise so i want it to be quiet.

sorry for the wall of text
>>
>>59590896
the 8gb XFX GTR is the best card with the most overclocking capability

the fans are made to be easily removable and swapable, so you can remove them to clean them or if you're into LEDs swap them for a color that matches your build

the MSI Gaming card is probably 2nd best. Stay away from the Sapphire cards if you can, but if they're a great price you can go for it.

>>59592764
Apparently the Taichi board is one of the better ones at eating higher bandwidth RAM, which is particularly important for Ryzen. That said, I am still on the Z97 platform with a 4690k and have not been keeping up that much on what goes on with cheaper Ryzen boards after the various updates that have been rolling out over the past couple of weeks.
Look up some reviews and decide for yourself whether Taichi is worth it. Asus' ROG board should be great too.

As for the case, I can't speak for the 540 specifically. I only have my own 750D which suffers from mediocre build quality, despite similarly positive reviews. But it is a 170 EUR case that is severely lacking in build quality, and because of that I wouldn't recommend Corsair in general.
Again, take this however you want. 540 might be a nicer case, I don't know and I don't really care.
>>

Too deep for me. I did feel the need to talk to someone about it and vent it off a bit and this board is the closest thing I'll ever have to a friend so you're stuck with me until my Wendy's and fruity pebbles diet kills me
>>
So, /pcbg/
I'm thinking about getting a new CPU soon. With that I also want to get off air cooling and go to watercooling master race.

I'm more concerned about functionality than looks. I've also never done watercooling before. Right now I'm thinking about this setup:
>Laing D5 pump
>EVGA 1070/1080 FTW block for my EVGA 1080 FTW
>360mm top rad + 120mm rear rad
>Koolance quick disconnects for fill port at bottom of loop and vent port at top of loop

Is there a certain size I should have for my res? What's the best anti-germicide - silver coil or additive? Is the corrosion on copper blocks anything to be concerned about regarding contaminants in the liquid?

From what I've seen it goes: Samsung > everything else. With exception of chick shit. As long as it's not chick you're good.
>I would rather have a well-made mechanical one than some cheap membrane that won't last me.
First I'm hearing about membrane not lasting. But I did give you a link to a mechanical board at a third the price. There's more that that one board there.
Gave you the option to cheep out, because mech boards are still really really overpriced. This way you can use the extra you'd save on better hardware. Then three months down the road get what you were looking at for half the price.
It's a hell of a lot easier to swap out a keyboard than a motherboard.
>>
>>59593141
>Could have swore that A type mobos were locked.
Maybe, but most people will either be buying Z or B mobos so it doesn't matter.
>Samsung > everything else
Doesn't that mean I should just get samsung then?
>because mech boards are still really really overpriced
They really aren't though, mechanicals can come to be pretty cheap depending on what you want in them. You get what you pay for when you buy one. Cheaping out on a keyboard is almost as bad as cheaping out on the PSU or GPU. It's one of the worst fucking decisions you can make.
>>
>>59593141

You selected a 250Gb Samsung one. So I assumed that budget was an issue, but if you can get a bigger Samsung one. If you can fit that into budget but would still like more storage, just grab a cheaper brand, any SSD will be miles faster than a HDD. Just don't get chink shit SSD's.
That said, I've got no idea what's the fastest of the 'offbrand' SSD's. But they're still miles ahead of HDD. So you'll be happy with whatever.

I wish I could put it down as old paste being shit but it still does not make sense. So I got the card, it ran fine, and I immediately started overclocking it. That's why I bought a used hybrid 980ti for $350 instead of a 1070, the ability to tinker with the bios. Anyway, got it to like 1400 as stock. Flashed a bios and got it to 1550, did a firestrike, and left the bios at it's stock clocks. This morning playing a game for 30 mins it overheats. I didn't know it was an overheat, so I tried again, Same result. I flashed the original bios and I took the front panel cover off my p400 since I thought it would be blocking the air flow and I let the fluid come down to 40c. I then tried a game again and it instantly shot to 90c and I plug pulled. It doesn't make sense that maybe the fluid just wanted to go back up in temp, maybe it seperated because water coolers aren't supposed to go that high, i don't know. So I went from cpu and gpu rad up front, 2 intakes uptop, and a rear exhaust to CPU rad+intake upfront, gpu rad intake in the back, 2 exhaust up top and I replaced the paste with kryonaut. Now it's working fine. Even if the old paste was tooth paste it wouldn't rise in temp that fast, it rised like it had no cooling at all. Idk how overheating would fuck up the water block's mount. I'm just worried it's gonna happen again.
Pic related is the old cooling set up. New one is
