I have a theory that I can use a virtual machine with GPU passthrough to stream windows games to the Linux host computer.
Before I go out of my way to compile a kernel, buy a new case, motherboard, CPU, and RAM, can anyone tell me if I'm an idiot?

It works. Quite well, too.

A lot of these problems can be solved in wine, too. Seems like a lot of money and effort for that.
I use win 10 server with some VMS. And use my laptop (linux/) asy main driver. What you're suggesting is not far from my setup.

WTF?

Your theory is correct and should work for all your steam games. Also you you probably don't need a new CPU, mobo and RAM as most recent CPUs support virtio.

why would you stream from one device to another just to play the game on the second device? you sound like a idiot but we will have to wait for the test results to be sure
Enjoy buying an entire GPU that you can't use for anything in Linux.
