Why did it have so many problems?

Why did it have so many problems?
>>
>>59576336
Microsofts quality control being a complete utter disaster, hardware wise the PS3 hyped up cell barely gave jack shit over the 360.
>>
>>59576336
The red ring being solved, but cooling was shit. Warez made it popular despite the memes.
>>
>>59576336
terrible hardware design
>>
>>59576336
Red Ring was caused by motherboard flexing due to thermal expansion. Not enough cooling and support for the motherboard. One more screw would've saved it.

>>59576486
PS3 Cell was objectively weaker. The hype was for a 4ghz 8 SPE design. Had to clock down to 3.2ghz and cut an SPE off for yields and another reserved for the OS. 360 CPU had higher theoretical and actual performance.
>>
>>59576486
Oh and speaking of the 360 one fact a lot people tend to forget the original early 360 units did not come with HDMI support but only VGA/Component etc.

I did a comparison and I swear to god the 360s VGA output beats the crap out of it's HDMI, it's damn crisp in VGA while in HDMI it's got somewhat of a slight blur effect
>>
Lead-free solder
>>
>>59576635
this and shitty caps
>>
So is there an actual way to fix a 3-light RROD? I've heard reapplying thermal paste may fix it.
>>
>>59576725
replace thermal paste, bolt it down and bake it

>bake it
do I take that literally as in "put it in the oven" or does that mean something else
>>
>>59576826
Yup putting it in the oven quite common method as a last resort when a GPU croaks.

>>59576826
Literally. It's also something people use to fix dead GeForce 8400/8600 laptop mobos.

8 to 10 minutes at 385 degrees reflows the solder
>>
>>59576336
Pajeets. What else?
>>
>>59576546
>VGA crisp
>hdmi not
Shit, I noticed this too.
>>
>>59576855
this sounds like it has a high chance of going horribly wrong
>>
>>59576899
It's already fucked so you'd just be fucking it harder.
>>
>>59576336
>>>/v/
>>
>>59576884

I think the 360 was designed with VGA in mind, it launched in late 2005 would not surprise me if the HDMI output was just some hack job add on.
>>
>>59576855
It doesn't reflow the solder. It melts the underflow in the chip, causing it to do magical shit. See the fuckin Louis Rossman video on it
>>
>>59576899
Yup. It's only recommended to do with stuff that's already broken as one last ditch attempt to fix it.
>>
>>59576855
>385°C

Would that melt it?
>>
>>59576725
Take out shit heat sinks, cut up an eraser, put them in their, screw it up tight AF
I'm not shitting you this worked for me

Here is the correct board to ask this question >>/v/
>>
>>59577001
Man HD DVD sure died fast
>>
>>59577083

The fuck?

>>
I always wished MS made a compact 360 that was the size of this thing, it's just so much better to look at.
>>
>>59576919
>>59577106

Discussion is purely hardware related but nice try.
>>

Its hardware related you fucking moron, leave this board.

planned obsolecence
only that they didn't realize the shitty capacitor plague was so much worse than it was supposed to be
>>
>>59577128
underraged faggot

i for one miss the remotes that were packaged with every 360.
>>
>>59577228

I remember HD DVD jobbing you twat but never heard of some China exclusive HD DVD derivative still in use.
>>
Overall a good product that had plenty of usable power. Some of the things the 360 bought along:

> cool operating system features such as play your own music tracks in-game and a great visualizer
>effortless online interaction management, add friends and block assholes. start parties and move between games
>took the online minigame from repacked retrogames through to quality indie games like Braid, through to full-blown value games like Shadow Complex

It's easy to take these things for granted now that everyone does them, but 360 was miles ahead then. Also a really clever architecture.
>>
>>59577001
think I still have one of these laying around and I wanna make a laser out of it
>>
>>59577301
They also didn't mind 2D games, lewd shit etc unlike SONY who had some ridiculous 3DEEE only policy for a few years so we can "impress" people.
>>
>>59577114
Because it's fucking stupid when blue ray existed and could hold more data per side.
>>
>>59576635
has nothing to do with lead free solder king tard

every device is lead free due to mandatory RoHS requirements
>>
>>59577344

360 was one of the first major products to go ROHS lead-free and its woes are easily attributable to not being designed for it. Nvidya had similar problems.
>>
>>59577336
Well Pioneer/Philips Laser Disc,RCA Video Disc,Sony Beta Max,JVC's Video High Density Disc all lost against the inferior JVC VHS
>>
>>59577395
But that was before CD players dominated the market and became a norm. Tapes were norm and the average consumer fag had a tape player.

HD DVD made no sense when blue ray is HD DVD with extra storage
>>
ATI invented unified shaders for the 360 and it was that kind of flexibility such as unified memory and high-speed edram which gave the design such a long lifespan. Unified shaders came to the fore later on PC when the 8800 line changed the way graphics were done.
>>
>>59576336
Lol I remember having to open my disc tray by removing the face plate and sticking a butter knife into the disc tray crevice and using it like a crow bar.
>>
>>59577415
Yeah but Video CD lost again to VHS... despite CD players being the norm.
>>
>>59577334
Playstation and PC are mainly the home for lewd shit.

Also, what 3DEEE policy? Sony had no such thing
>>
>>59576855
>fucking clean ass oven
>god damn
anons a fuckboy
>>
>>59577452

Toddler detected.
>>
>>59576336

PC Master Race
>>
>>59577452
>Playstation mainly the home for lewd shit

No that was SEGA & NEC. 360 was also the original system of titles such as Idolmasters,Galgun and autistic dot dodging shooting games

>Also, what 3DEEE policy? Sony had no such thing

Sony did not want a bunch of "budget" 2D games on it's system making it seem "weak" for about 2-3 years into the consoles life.

Didn't think to insert a paperclip into the manual eject?
>>
>>59577380
It's woes are attributed to M$ being cheap

they went in-house with their GPU, it's no surprise that 99% of rrod faults are from the GPU despite the CPU having a higher thermal profile
>>
>>59576336
poor design, and poor planning around and within the designs
>>
bc
>>
>>59577570
Hahah
>>
>>59576826
he means 420 blaze it
>>
I know nothing about it specifically, I'm 99% sure it was overheating problems.
>>
I got the final fat original revision which solved the RROD Jasper I believe it was called. Still runs fine no issue's what so ever.
>>
>>59576725
it depends what's been damaged and how much
everything can be fixed but you can't just buy a new CPU or GPU because they're custom
>>
>>59577638

>M$

You don't know anything kid.
>>
>>59577728

The slim is pretty bulletproof too, all in one package.
>>
>>59577815

The plastic on my unit though is of such a shady quality I truly believe I can break the unit into two pieces with my fingers.
