WTF is WebP?
>>
.png

.jpg is a lossy compression so don't use it unless you need to

because meme's are designed to be spread around with people constantly uploading and saving them, .jpg would mean they loose quality after retards keep compressing it again and again by uploading them

>When I create memes, should I save them .JPG or .PNG
PNG = It's very simple: drawings, vector art, maximum quality
JPG = photographs
webp = autistic garbage meme format that no one uses and nothing supports it.

PNG = Less colours, less size
JPG = Colours, lots of them

PNG is also LOSSLESS and smaller in size the "cleaner" the image is.

one of these can be spread around the internet without it loosing quality

JPEG is a bad choice for images like these.
>>
>>59575734
The image also lost transparency.
>>
>>59575017
Good point. Also I hate how JPG lacks transparency and I've heard PNGs load more elegantly. (With PNG the entire image fades in at once vs with JPG one line of pixels prints at a time.) However with my use case, total bandwith is at a premium.

>>59575498
>>59575525
I notice this PNG file is 6 times larger.

Say I use software to compress the PNG file size to JPG size - then how will the quality between the PNG and JPG compare?

JPEG
Recompressed 20 times at quality 90.

>Say I use software to compress the PNG file size to JPG size

Can't be done. PNG and JPG compression algorithms are fundamentally different and work best (in terms of filesize) on different kinds of images.

If in doubt, use lossless compression. Storage is cheap, data integrity isn't.

I could pre-compress the image and save it as a PNG. See Zopfli.

Nice banding desu
>>
>>59575525
You can also see the compression artefacts around the text as well. I'm talking about the JPEG version of this photo, if you're wondering.

Why use WebM over MPG when WebM won't even run on an iPhone?

chrome and firefox support it

just because 4chin doesnt support it doesnt mean it isnt a viable web standard just like vp9
>>
>>59576666

And? Nothing else does. Not even fucking free GPL'd image viewers. No camera supports it.
>>
>>59576666
Chrome hates APNG though

>>59576807
Maybe you're just doing it wrong? It all works for me.
>>
>>59576807
gwenview supports it just like gimp or any other not dead project out on the web
>>
>>59576807
krita supports it since 2015 release 2.9.5

just because you never heard of it doesnt mean it doesnt it isnt there. stop showing off your incompetence so flamboyantly
>>
>>59576348

Because WebM files are smaller, and not running on iPhones is a good thing.
