What are some open hardware projects that /g/ like or supports?
What is something 7g/ will like to make but lacks the talent?
>>
i want an open-v but i wouldn't have any actual use for it

OpenPOWER. I wish it were cheaper, there's that Tyan system that's somewhat reasonably priced but still is way beyond my means.
>Tyan also offers a cheap customer reference system - GN70-BP010, codenamed ‘Palmetto’ and introduced in 2014. This 2U server includes a basic Power8 chip, space for four hard drives and four sticks of RAM for just $2,850.

It's a RISC-V device which is open unlike AVR/ARM. Also you're running at 320Mhz unlike AVR which is shit and ARM which is 180Mhz at most (Cortex M4F).

risc v is sweet, I wish there was more commercial adoption.
>>
/g/ recently showed me this mycpu.eu
Looks very cool but the website doesn't have much info about the machine, still if I knew how to solder I'd love to make one.

Bought one of these little fpgas.
They're super cheap.
There's a guy that's made an open source tool chain for them.

Just need to do something with it.

Didn't that not even come close to getting funded? Is it dead?

J-Core seems promising. It's a cleanroom softcore implementation of the SuperH ISA family, as the patents are expiring.

ok sorry, i mean more like open / reasonable priced fpga?

>open hardware
How can it truly be open if you don't have an open hardware microscope to audit your open hardware in the first place? Hardware isn't source code you can easily inspect. You can never be sure what your hardware really does.

If you had open FPGAs maybe you could have open hardware descriptions, but as of now, hardware can never be trusted.
>>
>>59576655
Open Hardware means you can haz the schematics and build or modify your own version of this hardware.
>>
>>59576678
>build or modify your own version
That's the issue. Who can make silicon chips in here? No one. All you can do is buy them.
>>
>>59576655
It's not solely an issue of trust cause really that has no solution.
>>
>>59576709
But it has: affordable silicon printing. Just not now.
>>
>>59576724
And when your printer is compromised?
>>
>>59576704
>compile or modify your own version
That's the issue. Who can make compilers in here? No one. All you can do is download them.
>>
>>59576745
You start over from scratch and audit everything from analog devices? The issue is producing electronics, everything else isn't.

>>59576759
But you can easily learn how to do it, and this is very affordable. Or you can even write assembly if you must. There's always a workaround with software, there isn't with hardware, because there's a huge cost to silicon foundry.

>no gpu
I think you have a misunderstanding about what these are used for and how the MCU/MPU market is divided. Notice how I compared it to the Cortex M4F.
