What antivirus software do you use and which do you recommend?

I recommend Not Downloading Programs From Suspicious Websites And Not Letting Clueless People Plug Things Into Your Computer
>>

This is good advice. Also use security extensions in your browser.
>>
>>59568687
Nobody really said that Linux is immune or perfect, no OS is (at least today)
>>
>>59567758
Bitdefender is ok but it's a bitch to uninstall. You need to download more software from their site to get the uninstall tool that actually allows you to remove it. You'd want to turn it off if doing a system restore but you can't easily disable new editions of bitdefender. Also it's "minimal" in that the ui is just tiny and there's not a whole lot to do except run a system scan and log into a bitdefender account.

Most windows builds come with windows defender and that's good enough. What's crucial is your own behavior. Get an ad-blocker (ublock origin) and don't visit/download from sketchy sites, enable https only or use https everywhere, and if you still feel the need for an AV, I hear PandaAV is ok, Comodo is cool for a firewall, and avoid relying on things like malwarebytes and ghostery since the prior is not active protection and shitty right now, and the latter sells user data.

>>59568670
Any recommendations for a better alternative to scan for unwanted shit and malware? Hitman pro?
>>
>>59569250
OpenBSD ?
>>
>>59569304
I am using as additional scanner ADWCleaner but it is also under Malwarebytes right now
>>
Sophos Personal.

I sell Sophos end point protection as part of my MSP's package to businesses. it's not a resource hog like Windows defender.

Common Sense Protection is really the best value though.
>>
>>59569332
SOPHOS Home here, rebuilt my computer the other week and put a lot of consideration in to AV.. It had to lightweight, obviously good at detecting AV/PUA's and free. Also being able to manage it from the web is a really big bonus. I have added others to my web panel and I'm able to keep an eye on the less IT literature users.
>>
>>59567761
this
av won't protect you from 0day crap anyways
>>
Common sense is by far the best.

Other than that you try out windows defender in conjunction with ublock origin and hosts file editing.
>>
>>59567758
None. Anti Virus is dangerous and should be avoided and replaced with common sense. Use a script bocker and a popup blocker and don't open shit you downloaded from shady websites. Don't visit shady websites in the first place. Don't be a retard and you'll be fine.
>>
>>59567758
Comodo. The only good answer.
>>
>>59567761
>common sense 2017

R/eddit cringe phrasong, it get's me in an autistic fit everytime I see someone type common sense 2017 or some variation of this, it comes off as incredibly stupid, it's not clever nor funny it's just... and this is not hyperbole mind you, it's the perfect example of a cringe inducing phrasing

You could just say, no antivirus but instead you go with this fedora wearing gentlemen like way of phrasing things

This made me angry

I've browsed r/eddit and everyone ine there goes ''common sense'', especially in the pcmr subreddit

first time I saw someone refer to not using antivirus as common sense was in r/eddit actually and when I come to this site I don't want to be reminded of that

Viruses don't exist. There are only programs doing their jobs. When you don't know what a program does because it is proprietary, you don't use it.

You're either a dumb 60+ year old or a dumb teenager who thinks he needs an AV because you mom gets it for free from Frys with a rebate. If you're stupid enough to get a virus, you're just dumb. Anti-virus programs are just virtual placebos.

Restore Points after every install, once I installed a bad program on accident, and then just rolled back using a previous Restore Point to get rid of it, which then has made my PC not have any viruses.
