Its a great replacement for a MBP but thats about it.

It's a laptop. That's the entire flaw.

I've had two laptops and I never had any use for their portability except when I was in Spain and I wanted to fix my cousin's laptop because his install of Windows was corrupt so I bought a laptop to download an ISO and put it on a flashdrive.

>>
>>59564246
I go out every day. I do commercial refrigeration in San Francisco so I'm also constantly driving.

I really haven't seen a need to use a laptop except if I was a teenager and wanted to play games at a friends house. Other than that I use a tablet at work for work orders. This leads me to believe that if you see someone using a laptop in public then it's more of a thing that they have nothing else better to do and they might either use it as an excuse to be around people or just try to look cool. I don't know anyone who would say, per say, go to a coffee shop to work on something on their laptop. It just doesn't really happen for a pure work experience.

I tried to use my phone to download an ISO but I was using some shit tier internet and my cousin's laptop wouldn't detect my phone mounting the ISO. And it was a good excuse to get a new laptop with the opposite side of hardware.

He's right about the trackpad, why did Dell opt for fucking Synaptic instead of MS precision for such an expensive laptop is beyond me.
>>

>>
>>59565566
Then Dell is even more retarded because there more premium laptop the 13 R3 is only Synaptic.
>>
>>59564972

They could have moved the panel as close to the hinge as possible and had the webcam at the top. The actual footprint of the laptop would remain identical. But no, they went fully form over function just to make the top bezel look slim like the side ones.

The XPS 15 is such a dogshit laptop, I can't believe people pay over $1,000 for a heavily depreciating Windows machine alone.

Its because they're still useful by the time you want to sell it. What is this 'sheep' shit? Pretty funny to try that on /g/, the home of 'did I DO GOOD GUYS/GUISE SHOULD i BUY THIS?!'.

Out of a MacBook and a Windows machine which originally cost around the same 5 years ago, the MacBook smokes it in performance on shipped operating system and latest supported OS. The market isn't dumb, you're not smart.
>>

>>59566727

Yeah its all about dem Realtek drivers, they'll really make your machine fly when they're optimized. Not at all about the actual operating system. That doesn't need to be optimized, just as long as those webcam drivers are, its fine.

>>

That isn't anywhere NEAR what macOS is like. MacOS is as granular as it gets. Apple make the whole package, they account for every fucking component on the motherboard. We're talking about laptops don't forget, where efficiency is paramount.
>>
>>59567140
apple doesn't use magic, they use the same hardware as anyone else, put it in a fancy case and get to write their own drivers and that's basically it

I was asked to setup a few of these laptops for the execs at my company.

The first problem is that Dells auto detect drive system is a piece of shit. If I run it on two Dell XPS laptops at the same time side by side they will find different drivers. This is sounds minor, but it was a nightmare to find the thunderbolt and video drivers. They weren't even available on the product page for the XPS at the time.

The second is the thunderbolt 3 port. On the surface this looks great, but tons of people have been having issues getting it to work properly especially with docking stations. In my experience whenever I'd plug a device in, it would just disconnect in 20 seconds. All drivers and windows up to date, just shitty hardware.

The third problem is that these keyboards fucking suck. They have one set of keys for all their models so if you get one with a large display, they keyboard is fucking tiny and awkward to use.

TLDR these machine aren't reliable for business and have a tone of weird issues when you try to setup several at the same time. I got my company to switch to the X1 Yoga. It's better in every way.

Damn.
What's a good solution to the no ethernet port problem?
>>
>>59572754
TB3/USB adapters aren't expensive, and they provide maximum throughput.

>>
>>59572793
Only real issue with the xps is the number of ports. Is there a usb c to hub adapter? Like usb c to ethernet, and couple more usb ports?
>>
>>59572842
They couldn't fit a full keyboard without shrinking keys and moving the trackpad off center (ew)

Moving the screen lower would not only have made this laptop look really fucking weird, it would also have shrunken the chassis even more giving you less cooling, space for hardware, and a smaller trackpad.

Considering what these laptop is competing against (MacBook Pro, Razer Blade, X1 Carbone) relatively speaking it's pretty cheap.

You forgot to bring your adapter and will only be able to use it in a few hours.
>>
>>59572991
>in a couple of hours
Do you mean for? If you do then you're greatly underestimating this machine's battery life.
>>
>>59572982
Well, what do you suggest I get?

So that's all bait? Meaning the xps has no flaw?
>>
>>59573407
There is no point to this thread. Of course it has a flaw. Everything has a flaw. OP would be a literal retard to think otherwise. It's bait because all he wanted from you all were replies, and that's what you've given him.

A metric fuck ton for low energy no effort content.
>>
>>59573424
And you gave him another reply dumbass.

What performance is it you need?

Do you want Quadro or do you want something both CAD and gaming capable?
