Why do people still buy physical media? Does /g/ horde physical media? I just watch movies and TV on netflix in 1080p, and play games on Steam. So much simpler.

>I just enjoy getting fucked over backwards by DRM and other anti-user, anti-privacy implementations
>I pay money for things I'll don't even own
>I pay money to trade privacy and freedom for my ignorant notion of convenience
>I use "smart" TVs which run proprietary insecure code and collect user information about me
>I'm a ignorant, stupid consumer
That's you, OP. Just the fact that you connect your TV to the internet makes you an imbecile. Fuck off.
>>
>>59562077
Whats wrong with that?

I use an Android Box for Netflix. So my TV isn't connected to the internet
>>
>>59562026
>not having solid backup
>>
So does /g/ pirate their media? How about burning them to DVD-RWs and playing them on their PS2

yeah i collect vidya retro and modern. have a fairly massive dvd collection but movies aren't my thing. i don't buy digital goods full price, wait and then g2a, its just not worth it. either give me something i can hold and use without the internet or don't ask for very much money from me.

software i dont mind digital only tho, its not like im going to use a piece of software 10, 20 years later for the most part.

Discs rot, and hard drives crash.
>>
>>59562318
Next time on hoarders.
>>
>>59562026
>I just watch movies and TV on netflix in 1080p
There's much more to video quality than resolution. Netflix loses out in quality to digital downloads like iTunes and Amazon, and those lose to Blu-ray. You also don't need an internet connection to watch DVDs and Blu-rays, so when your ISP fucks something up and you're without service for a while you can still watch those.
>>
>>59562419
I used to do Blu-ray 10 years ago, didn't see a difference between it and DVD...and I think Netflix looks better than Blu-ray.
>>
>>59562026
>Why do people still buy physical media?
Because paying for intangible content is retarded.
>>
>>59562445
So you're blind, and ignorant in regards to resolution and bitrate. That's your problem, not anyone else's, so why're you blogging about it in /g/?
>>
>>59562486
Just didn't see a difference. To me DVD was cheaper and seemingly identical. so why spend an extra $10 for snake oil?
>>
>>59562026
>Why do people still buy physical media? Does /g/ horde physical media? I just watch movies and TV on netflix in 1080p, and play games on Steam. So much simpler.

I can buy a used BluRay for $4 and sell it for that much when I'm done.

Once I pay for digital media, I can't resell it. I don't own shit.

Only retards rent.

>>59562495
>To me
Like I said, why should anyone care how retarded you are? This must be bait, the entire thread.
>>
>>59562504
well with netflix, you are buying access rather than individual releases...makes more sense to me than spending $20 to buy a disc.
>>
>>59562533
Well, what did I do wrong, Einstein?
>>
>>59562540
>well with netflix, you are buying access rather than individual releases...makes more sense to me than spending $20 to buy a disc.
Can you resell it? Didn't think so. You're still in a hole for it.

access to an entire library vs 1 release....totally in the hole.
>>
>>59562564
Like he said, you might have severe problems with your vision.
From the sound of it, you could have done something retarded like using a composite to connect the Blu-ray player to your TV.

>>59562639
Netflix removes movies and shows from their library all the time. If I buy a show on DVD or Blu-ray I don't have to worry about some contract dispute that ends up removing them from my shelf.
>>
>>59562707
Stuff usually returns as well.

What do you do when the disc rots?
>>
>CDs
the cheapest solution to high quality audio in my car
>Blu rays
Highest quality solution to watching movies; Blu rays last longer than HDDs and can be resold
>>
>>59562820
Bluetooth and Netflix are better in every way hipster fag.

>entire library
Entire library FULL OF SHIT I DON'T WATCH vs. things I ACTUALLY WANNA WATCH.

You're acting as if Netflix has everything when they don't even come close.

Nice logic there dude!
>>
>>59562800
>Stuff usually returns as well.
Not always. King of the Hill still hasn't. There are also lots of movies and shows that aren't available on any streaming platform.
>What do you do when the disc rots?
The only disc rot I've experienced is on burnable media. None of my pressed discs have rotted.
>>
>>59562564
You're on /g/ denying the only measure of quality , bitrate ( amount of fucken information ) , has no effect on quality
>>
>>59563005
Bitrate doesn't mean shit, and really who can tell the difference?
>>
So this thread has gone full bait, right?
>>
I buy physical media for things I really like. Streaming doesn't guarantee availability, hard drive accidents happen, torrents lose seeders, etc.

Good backups include diverse storage media, so I like having hard copies affords a certain level of comfort. Will my life end if I never see something again? No, but that doesn't mean having those things don't bring me joy.

>>59563057
I notice the difference frequently even on "HD" cable television, watching HBO on the cable box. Keep an eye out in dark scenes. They get all blocky because the blacks get compressed to hell. A brotha can't get ahead in the real world or the digital.
>>
>>59562864
They are worse in every measurable way in terms of quality
