What's the best camcorder for $300? $600? $900? I'm about to drop a reasonable amount of money on something to shoot a variety of projects. Triple CCD or equivalent would be nice, 4K would also be nice but not needed (1080p or maybe even 720p with a really good lense will do fine).

/p/ is probably a better place to ask this
They usually have a video production gear thread going.
/p/ here,
Camcorders are dead, get the Canon 600 or 700D (touchscreen) DSLR camera. Rode GO/shotgun microphone, zoom recorder h1 or later versions if your budget could allow it, cheap ass tripod, glidecams/steadycams can be pretty cheap nowaday <100 bucks, SD card, extra battery, travelbag, a spotlight and if you can a softbox for the spotlight, (maybe insurance)
You also 'have' to buy software like Adobe Premiere, plugins, music copyright, sound effects etc.

There's plenty of fine mirrorless on the market too, don't fall for the DSLR meme for video.
