Why does Nvidia make it so obvious they gimp their cards. As of right now the 1080 ti can play pretty much run anything at 4k resolution above 60 fps next year some games with shitty graphics will run at 30

If it's so obvious, show your proof

It would only prove that cards are being gimped if the games that used to run at 40k/60fps at release, later performed much worse. But you can load up old games on old cards with new drivers and they still perform as well (or as poorly) as they did back then.

The problem is a lot of games are increasingly written on engines with more and more generalized forms of optimisation to save time by having everything pre-done, so devs don't then take the time to really get into it and save performance by replacing default engine code with their own more optimized versions. Back in the day that was a necessity to get games to run on the hardware, and because there were much bigger advances from game to game back then, devs would compete on who could actually get the latest new feature to atually run. These days engines come with most of that already in (i'm talking about physics, physically based rendering, various graphics techniques like AO and IL etc) and devs just use whatever works.

So tl;dr, it's because most devs are saving time on optimizing the basics and newer games are running less efficiently than they used to. but because cards these days are so powerful most of the time you can hit playable fps anyway and there's very little incentive for games to run well at anything above 1080p/60fps for most developers.
