OK. Now what's a good provider?
conversations.im is free for 6 months then it's 8e/yr (which isn't a lot) but I want to explore other options.

Host your own. If not have look at the beginning of this article. It talks about some of the considerations: https://homebrewserver.club/picking-modern-xmpp-clients.html
>>59553656
Creep.im if you want to have all XEPs.
>>59553672
Would a RaspPi be enough?
Also, I'm concerned about uptime so I'd probably host the server on a VPS. Is that a good idea?

Thanks.

>Creep.im is a Moscow, Russia located private server, operated by an individual, with a number of free services running for a general public. Please not abuse it and use appropriately. The server is not situated in a data center environment and its hardware and Internet channel are not duplicated for a fail-safe operation, hence its services can be inaccessible from time to time due to a network or power outage, a hardware problem, an upgrade or a reboot. Please not rely on Creep.im if the server uptime is crucial to you. The data is protected both by the RAID technology and regular automatic backups.

It's what it is.
It seems to be the only server made by an individual that has all the XEPs. Those from places like Netherlands or Iceland have almost nothing.
If you are going to use XMPP on your computer and you don't need cell phone optimizations, here are some of the more "reliable" countries.

Raspi is enough for you and a few others. Uptime will most likely be okay unless you know you have a particularly bad connection.

Can confirm that, hosted a XMPP server (ejabberd) on an odroid-U3 for a couple of years.
I run a federated xmpp with tor/i2p access

Tor link?
Does everyone hate xmpp or is the userbase of /g/ mostly marketers and gaymers now?
