Linux finally has professional video editing software. DaVinci Resolve was ported to Linux this month

Nice

Designers aren't going to use Linux because it's too hard and they're not the type of people who like dealing with small technical details, they're literally always going to be in the Apple ecosystem because 'it just works' is a hard requirement for that crowd

These are the people who buy Mac Pros, anon

I could see lots of small time youtubers and streamers using this. Mostly because they may not be able to afford super expensive rigs, and I've found linux is better at handling large video files (recordings can be around 1gb/min depending on quality and such) than windows generally.

The question is, is it actually fully ported over and does it actually offer enough polish to be used professionally. If someone is depending on it for a paycheque, it can't be locking up, crashing, or anything like that

Editors and colorists are technicians who wish they were creative types. Mac Pros are only used because the software they require are only available on OSX (MacOS?). If more people ported their shit to Linux like Blackmagic, more production houses would switch to Linux so they could be more in control of their software and their costs. Not to mention that lots of productions use in-house software for many tasks, and would probably love to develop for Linux more, but are forced to for Mac because their software needs to pipe into the stuff only available on it.

Doesn't video editing and this kind of things needs some "good" hardware to not take too much time ?
Why one would go with Apple hardware when linux or windows does the job better on better hardware ?

if it's not released under GNU GPL V3 it's useless
