I have a question...

I have a Seagate 1 TB SSHD (the one with 32 GB of NAND) as the primary hard drive in my Precision M6500, and I'm not sure if it's working or not... when I got it, it was unsealed... Seagate will replace it no problem, but it's a hassle and it takes time.

I run Windows 10 at the expense of no stock Bluetooth for some reason, and when I boot after a restart (not fastboot, a real restart), after POST and shit when it starts bootstraping, it takes 26-ish seconds from the time the BIOS logo goes away to the time the login background appears and I can login.

I remember running Windows 10 on the 7,200 RPM drive that came with the computer, and I'm not sure it's that much faster... Like, not SSD-fast, anyway...

Anyone has any insight? How long does it take you to reboot into Windows 10 with a normal 5,400 RPM drive? Anyone else got a SSHD?

I'm worried I got screwed again ._.

Picture is the video cards with heatsink assemblies I swapped last Friday (Quadro 2800 for FirePro 7820).

The NAND will only cache the last 32GB of data read from the drive. The way Windows 10 fastboot doesn't actually fully power off the system, and just puts the CPU into a deep sleep power state. Its basically a glorified hibernate mode. Most of the files that get used when cold booting windows never leave the system RAM. This means they rarely get cached my the NAND, so everything has to be read from the HDD.

ay i no, i shud kept Windows 7 they have the long-term support until 2020 like Ubunty.

>>59539735

i thought i could save $350 and still get decent performance.

>>59539679

nobody knows what the NAND stores because Seagate won't tell anyone how it actually works, but its not the "last", it's the "most frequently read" files that are cached in the NAND, so things like the OS kernel and drivers, GIMP, maybe games, idk...

>>59539977

yah that's the fastboot, i did specify a reboot.

the expression is just so off, it's weird... kinda creepy actually. *shudders*
