Will installing a VM with Tails on it provide any additional security as opposed to simply running Windows or iOS?
Would installing Tails as the only OS be a better option?
You don't install tails. You run it as a live USB on bare metal.

tails is not meant to be installed in a fucking VM, that's the point.
Live from a USB flash drive is optimal but i guess installing it won't hurt

The entire point of Tails is that it self destructs upon shut down "installing" it is missing the point.
Install WHONIX in a fucking VM...
You're supposed to run Tails on a machine with NO HARD DISK connected. Let them try to save all your keystrokes in the EC or other chip.

Fair warning: even by going to Tails (or Tor for that matter) website, you'll be put on a special list of people who should be watched or targeted.
Enjoy extra screenings at airports, for life, and enjoy not being able to get federal jobs or have contracts with companies doing work with gov agencies.

Its more 'secure' assuming the VM isn't being monitored by the host or compromised in some way.
It would be wiser to run tails USB live. However there is still attacks that can be such as getting PGP keys at bios level so ideally you use a dedicated machine for it.

Want security? CubeOS
Want anonymity: Tails
