Should I sell my i5 3570 and throw another $90-100 down on a locked i7? Ebay prices seem to be ~$70 for 3570 and $150-160 for the i7. Another 100mhz isnt much but that HT

just overclock the 3570k ... mine is running at 4.4ghz without any issues at all for over a year now.
the i5 k versions are actually i7s
>locked i7
Might as well try to buy a used xeon or wait for rypoo 5. Could also try your luck with an engineering sample i7 from overseas. Keep in mind I also just hate locked CPUs with a passion.

It's not a K sku

Sandy/Ivy can go +4 turbo on P67 and up 1155 boards and +4 plus lock all cores to single core turbo on Z7X boards, giving you 4.1/4.3 or 4.3/4.3 turbo on a 3770. 3570 is running 4.0/4.2 now.
E3-1230 V2

Try to find an Xeon E3-1230v2 or above, they're i7's but with the integrated GPU disabled and ECC support. They were typically around $80 cheaper. ($230~). They work fine on the same chipset.
Ones ending with a 5, ie E3-1245v2 have the GPU enabled, which is pretty pointless.
E3-1220v2 and E3-1225v2 have no hyperthreading so it's just an i5

No they aren't, i7's are defined by higher bins and having SMT (Hyperthreading) enabled

This fucking computer is on life support, wtf end it already. Cancer ladies and gentlemen, here it is
>>59536749
thanks for the tip, would totally do it if I had a 7x mobo
>>59536775
its just a random pic
>>59536961
they work fine with a 6x board mate, just update the BIOS
>>59536971
Yes but no turbo+. I would be losing 15% or more in 1c/4c for better 8c. A 3770 will be the same or better in all areas.

Would OP pic work?
>>59536364
>but that HT
when will the HT meme end?
Seems to me like you could save a lot of money by just buying a 12V fan instead of hooking your PC up to the motherfucking air conditioner?
>>59540009
You would need something to dehumidify the air from the AC and then it might stand a chance.

poor people aren't very smart
>>59540224
doesn't work if you live in a melting wasteland, you actually need actively cooled air for that
>>59541088
most air conditioners already dehumidify the air, at least where I live
