Something about writing shit in a terminal makes me hyper-focused on programming and is deeply satisfying.

I'd love to hook up an old box with an emulated floppy drive to work on projects on. Would feel so sexy to run and compile C projects on such limited hardware.

I have one of these. I have the RS232 model (be careful - lots out there are IBM only). I love it. Will be sad if it ever dies.

Also I took the case apart, cleaned it well and gave it a nice white/grey/black digi-camo paint job.

I had a 486 toshiba laptop that had a pop-out-and-mount trackball. Shit was pretty baller.
>>
>>59535040

I used to do it full-time and could make upwards of $2-3k net a month. Then I got a job and worked for a year and just now getting back into the game so my sales are low right now as I've formed a new LLC and what not. I sold my last business when I started working to a local buy-sale-trade store that mainly wanted the aged 100% Top Rated eBay account and existing inventory.

Summer months are my best time to get inventory because of yard sales and flea markets. Thrift stores have gotten shitty in recent years thanks to shows like American Pickers and those places thinking they're retail stores instead of thrift stores.

I also buy wholesale and shop clearance racks at stores.

During November-December and during tax season (ie: right now) are some of the better revenue cycles. One year during the Black Friday - Christmas period I grossed nearly $8k.

A lot of the vintage computer / electronics crap stays in my collection.

Surplus sales, auctions, and recycling centers, also the dump (if it's legal in your area to throw away electronics).

>I'd love to hook up an old box with an emulated floppy drive

USB floppy drives are pretty easy to come by. Such low capacity. Just enough for some code and ascii art. I mounted one in my machine for grins. It's funny having an ssd mounted below it.

Not that guy (but the original guy) and I have places within a two hour radius that I generally cover on set times. I know the dates when places put out new inventory, etc. I have relationships with many and they contact me ahead of time because they know I'll give them top dollar no bullshit.

I also scour junkyards. Certain car parts can fetch a premium if you're willing to take them out of cars. One afternoon I went through the entire junkyard pulling out every Infinity and Bose amp I could find. Why?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/97-98-99-00-CHRYSLER-SEBRING-CONVERTIBLE-INFINITY-AMPLIFIER-AMP-04671236AD-/122387583455?hash=item1c7ede51df%3Ag%3An4AAAOSw6n5XtkbT&vxp=mtr&nma=true&si=wB5lg6ky1cugbNUjIYpN1RDM%252BCU%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

Because a $10-20 part at the junk yard can be sold on eBay for $100.

I hit government surplus auctions/sales a lot and the CRT monitors are becoming more scarce. I've got several I've cherry picked and kept over the years, but so many ended up being recycled because they take up too much space.

Though I don't recycle those anymore if they work. I have land now and they go into storage and I hope to sell them to Gen Z hipsters for big bucks 10-15 years from now.

Goodwill

A) Throws a lot of shit out
B) Puts a lot of shit on Shopgoodwill.com
C) Employees take it home

Most of the vintage TV's I see are 70's and 80's models with some 90's sprouting up nowadays. a lot of people just throw them out but I live in a really poor area and people hold on to stuff.

But fun going to an estate sale of some 90 year old lady and seeing a wood grain console television in the living room and getting it for free because the kids want the house cleaned so they can sell it ASAP.

My wood grain GE console TV in the basement has enough space on top to hold all of my vintage game systems that i play on it, plus other shit.

Depends. The church-run thrift stores are better for stuff like that because when the family all comes down here to clear out the deceased persons house, they want to "donate it all to a church" to feel like it isn't going to waste.

That function generator looks cooler than the one I got in my class. In my class you can barely even see what wave form you got set cause the LED display is so dim and small you have to get right up there and stare to make sure you got a sine wave being outputted.

We had this phone when I was a kid.

Here's an interesting bit of useless information:

The rotary phone was the phone everyone had when the US came up with area codes.
Areas with the largest populations got the lowest numbers (NYC=212, CHI=312, LA=213, etc.) so the more commonly called numbers would take less time to dial.

That's the exact machine I used to create my class assignments when I took the introduction to computer science class, fall quarter 1978. The language was PL/C.

I only got a chance to use it for two courses. The next year, we switched to video terminals (DEC VT100, mostly) connected to machines like PDP/11-45 and VAX. At that point, Pascal became the most popular language for the courses.

Yeah, the Asians really know how to reverse engineer anything. It's like some D&D racial trait thing they got going on. Just give them even a picture and they gonna build it for you if you pay enough money to them so it's high quality. Yeti has no moral right to sue Walmart for something like a freaking tumbler. I hope their lawyers lose to Walmart, which is the highly likely outcome considering how massively rich Walmart is.

You can try it yourself if you got a phone, even with modern-style dials.

I don't know what it's called, but it's a part of phreaking: You punch the button that the speaker rests on (dunno the exact terminology as I am not a native speaker, sorry) as many times as you need. So to dial 911, you hit it 9 times, wait, once, wait and then once and wait for the call to start.

If you want to see it used, Hackers (the old movie) and Silence of the Lambs (I think, may be Red dragon) feature this technique when the protagonist has to call from a phone with a locked dial.

I use it sometimes just for S&G

anyone have a gif, video, webm, or plain text document of the vacuum tube stereo amplifier that has an intricate start-up routine where the tubes rise from out of the case? I can't find that anywhere
>>
>>59558169
If I did have that gif/video I would have definitely made a text document out of it in response.

If it ever even comes out, it has been in the works for years.

When the GPD Win was announced Pandora/Pyra fags got so buttblasted, read their forum about it, they said it can't be pulled off and it will never work nor will they be able to make a device like that in such a short time.

They are literary delusional. They even say that Pandora's case is better than a Nintendo DS or GPD Win, even when it's just a 3D printed shit.

To be fair being native-shenzen chinkos blows a lot of shit out of the water. Totally different culture for new projects, Pandora guys should have studied bunnie's book.

The 4000T is the only Amiga really worthy of that label, the rest of them are generic all-in-one toy designs like the A600 you posted or conventional desktops with ugly mismatched shit brown color palettes that look old and worn even after restoration. Branding and design was never an Amiga strong point, the only thing I've ever found likable about them was the embossed AMIGA on the plastics, it always looks nice.

Here's most of it. Mechanical keyboards, Pentium 1 tower, Sun Microsystems scsi drives, Sony SSM-121 monitor, Sears Silvertone clock radio from the 60's, Pentium II cpu, ISA cards, backpack cd-rom etc... I've found most of this stuff in the last 2 months.

now gib (you)s plox
>>
>>59559666
I disagree, there's nothing generic about them, all the all-in-keyboard computers of the time had their own style
>>
>>59559812
>all the all-in-keyboard computers of the time had their own style
In subtle ways, sure, but in the end they all start looking the same after you've seen a lot of them, especially generically beige Commodore gear.

I also just don't like those kinds of all-in-one designs in general, they're consumer-y and toyish, not very expandable or useful and really only existed to cut costs, there's a reason they went away.

They didn't go anywhere, nowadays we call them NUCs and they don't have a keyboard anymore.
>>
>>59560647
Nah, I'm specifically talking about all-in-one designs that integrate a keyboard. NUCs and similar designs are alright, being a little more versatile and generally better looking.
>>
>>59560943
They are both consumer grade items.
You are just ignorant that people like things that aren't your definition of "aesthetic".
