How can other DEs even compete?
Can't say Dale, you know where Hank got to?
>>59528329
I'm pretty sure he's on twin peaks so you got the wrong show.
>>59528294
That's a ni-
>location in use
gnome is nice and consistent and fedora is nice and secure but it's fucking stupid to have to press tiny 'activities' in the corner before switching every windows as if this was a phone or something. i'm not a keyboard shortcut kind of goy.
they can't

>turn on dark theme

can I ask what DE is this?
>>59528493
They might be GTK2 or Qt programs
>>59528556
>can I ask what DE is this?
Yes
>>59528556
CDE
>>59528294
>location in use
>>59528609
is CDE pretty impractical for my laptop? I use Xubuntu right now and I love it but I kinda thought of giving this a spin just cause it looks cool.

DROPPED
>>59528294
shit load of screen real estate wasted
>>59528571
they are yes but thats no excuse for the titlebar to stay white
they had something so great with GNOME 2
why did they do it, /g/
>>59528398
kek
>>59528294
Redshift can do this without the touch optimized de abomination.
>>59528664
You can use it but it is impractical.
It's still the objectively worst DE. Even Unity is miles better.
>>59532284
Why is it the worst DE?
>>59532462
Tablet UI. You need extensions to make it remotely usable.
>>59528664
comfy as fuck but not practical in any sense.
Also it has security issues and is pretty buggy so best of luck if you want to run it.
>>59532713
GNOME with extensions is objectively the best DE out there though

>Not using the DE that just blanks the screen and a friendly male voice telling you to hit the sack.
they compete by not needing external tools to make it usable

also it has the fatal flaw of desktop icons that will NOT align properly

Arch testing repos and Fedora Rawhide have it.
>>59533538
Gentoo has it.

>>59533857
>tfw only nonmeme option is Fedora rawhide
>>59528465
Why don't you get rid of that retarded animation when you change desktops?
>>59533538
If you're into GNOME you should really be using Arch or Fedora they get the newest GNOME packages first at practically the same time. What is so special about 3.24 anyways? I'm on Arch, I might install it and give it a whirl if there is anything compelling about it compared to earlier versions.

>This release also includes a new Recipes application, which contains recipes contributed by members of the GNOME community. It has an extensive set of features for adding and editing recipes, creating shopping lists, adjusting quantities and even has a hands-free cooking mode. Other GNOME applications that have been improved for 3.24 include Web, Photos, Polari, Games, Calendar and the Calculator. The Settings application also has a total of three updated settings pages.
WHAT ARE THEY THINKING?
>>59533789
>>59533857
I don't trust bronies packaging my software. Only trustable repos are Debian and Fedora.

They're desperately trying to copy Apple. To them the more consolidation the better.
>>59534157

GNOME is becoming increasingly less desirable because of this junk. Everything about GNOME is already the opposite of the UNIX way though. Fuck em they had a good thing in GNOME 2 they fucked up a good thing and mate just doesn't feel the same.
