No, assembly's great if you want to learn how computers work. It's also a MUST if you want to understand hacking or any type of computer security.

People who don't know assembly are simply not tech-literate. If you are a programmer and you don't know assembly, you're not really a programmer but a fucking pleb pretending to be a programmer. Poojeets are better than you.
>>
>>59526703
Just being able to read assembly is major redpill. Otherwise you're either a poojeet writing JS or a 10 year old learning to make Minecraft mods.

then you have a shit job.

I've found few bugs in GCC because I knew assembly. One time I was workign on a project and was always getting wrong result. I then disassembled few functions and traced out the assembly generated by the compiler and found a bug. Submitted a patch and it was accepted.

People who don't know assembly are plebs. Plain and simple.

>>
>>59525530
I've heard lots of people mention assembly is important but also that it isn't a skill you'll use often. I've never taken the time to learn it. Is it hard? Why exactly should I learn it?
>>
I am here because you don't know chemistry in turn.
>>
>>59527973
One of them was a pointer arithmetic bug. GCC was generating wrong series of instructions because there was a bug in an optimizer. Other bug was a floating point division bug.. again, due to an optimizer.
>>
>>59527995
>I've heard lots of people mention assembly is important but also that it isn't a skill you'll use often. I've never taken the time to learn it. Is it hard? Why exactly should I learn it?
You don't use it often because you don't have the skill. You should learn it so you understand how things work.

>>59527998
>I am here because you don't know chemistry in turn.
try >>>/sci/. this is /g/ after all so you can't fault us for not being experts in a totally different field.
>>
>>59528052
>try >>>/sci/
So i should go to a theoretical board because you don't know the technological applications of chemistry?
Some people are just unaware of their lack of education it seems.

When /g/ is renamed into software or programming, you can talk shit kiddo.
>>
Is this nigga really talking about how to spend your time learning shit when he's been monitoring and replying to his thread for 3 hours?
>>
>>59528034
I mean actually link to your bug report, I want to see it.
>>
>>59528052
Is that the only merit? I mean I like understanding how things work but is there a bigger reason I should drop everything and learn assembly?
>>
for what architecture? saying "i know assembly" is retarded

if you understand how memory, registers, stacks etc work then you could pick up assembly pretty quickly

why you would even want to is another matter

Though the fact that you think software is
the only approach to technology and not merely
one minor one in a myriad, does tell me why
you are jobless.

You should consider killing yourself before Pajeets take your place. That way you will cut your shaming off before it happens.

So this is /g/? This is my first time visiting the board and I at least expected some tech talk instead of endless shit flinging. You guys are no better than /v/. I guess it's my fault for expecting more from 4chan other than shitposting

It contains my name. So no. But you can go on GCC Bugzilla and see the types of bug reports they get.

It's true what they say. An expendable "programmer" can be identified by their inability to avoid contradictions, and their lack of tech education beyond writing code like a monkey.
It's sad. No wonder Pajeets and feminists are having a field day in your sector. It's the one infested with the stupidest of people.
>>
>>59528535
over 50% of chemistry and bilogy grads are women. less than 10% of CS grads are women.

and you dare bring that up?

fucking idiot. no wonder you're unemployable.
>>
>thread has literally degraded to a chemist and some assembly fag having a longer dick contest

Does anyone even browse this board for actual discussion or is it simply a consumer shitposting board?
>>
>>59528605
>over 50% of chemistry and bilogy grads are women.
I like how you added biology because you don't have an argument on feminism and social justice shit without mixing biology stats with chem.

In chem, none of them are retarded feminists,
but hard-working women who actually care about
the field and put time into it. Don't have time for stupid women's marches or some feminist bitch beneath their IQ bossing them around.
Let that marinate in your mind a little.

Meanwhile, look at your field. A disgrace that makes me laugh.

Still 95% male. Still making SHITTON OF MONEY. Still easy as fuck to start a company.

Finally, still changing the world and putting worthless sacks of shit like you out of work since w're automating everything.

Stay mad! Keep collecting those welfare checks while you're still around.
>>
>>59527239
>>
>>59525530
There is no point in knowing assembly unless you develop operating systems, develop compilers, or do reverse engineering.
>>
Chemistry is for cucks, when did they ever do anything for anyone?
>>
>>59525530
>falling for the low level programming meme

>>
Because most of the time programmers are hardware illiterate
>>
>>59528706
>95% male.
Make that 45%. As in 45% are Indian males,
while the other 50% are half-males or as i like to call them "western white half-males".

>shitton of money
Only the managers get shitton of money, by employing 10 Pajeets for 20% of your pay and firing you.

>Still easy as fuck to start a company.
And the most failure-prone sector to start a company in as well.

>automating everything
You can't automate anything without someone building shit and also improving the hardware you use to create automation.

Why are "programmers" so stupid and why do they lie so much on the Internet?
Especially the 2nd one. Lying seems to be their better skill. You should go for becoming a lawyer instead.

That can be fixed. Make writing machine code (or too close to it, eg C) ableist hate "speech". Only javascript and state-approved web frameworks promote equally on the grounds of being easy to use by everyone.

6502 is still too difficult, it should be easy like python. Python is the most used language and it reflects the quality of it.
>>
>>59529144

write an emulator for an old Intel CPU in C++

It will require you to read and understand the entire datasheet completely

For an 8080 this isn't actually that hard. It's basically a subset of what x86 assembly is now. It even has SIMD instructions
>>

Then go and use python.
>>

Yes, and? Not sure why that would be a requirement to discuss one's interest.
>>
>>59525615
There's only two real architectures: x86 and ARM. And most modern software is so intrinsically tied to a specific platform that there's no point in trying to port it anyway. Not to mention that OP didn't imply that you should use it for everything, just that not knowing it limits your options.

>>59528074
Technological applications of chemistry belong on /g/, chemistry in general doesn't.

Actually, SJW types like low-level programming since it's basically tearing down patriarchal social constructs like "object oriented programming" ("othering" the code and refusing to see it as an equal) and "bounds checking" (forcing a cultural identity on array indexes without their consent).

>>59529117
Assembly isn't unproductive when you use it in a situation that calls for it.
>>
>>59530319
It's important that you recognize trans-bools. You must ask them if they self-identity as true or false regardless of whether or not they have a 1 or a 0.
