Easiest? Basic.
Most useful? Anything but basic.

Learn Python then C. Go anywhere from that point.

Lua is pretty easy, and teaches you a lot.

I think Basic actually gets harder the more you know about other languages.

I wonder if this contributes to SJW being a distinctly American phenomenon?

In a place like France bread is masculine and apples are feminine. Why? Just because they are ... if you start to protest you sound like nonsense.

Python doesn't teach anything like what BASIC teaches though. Of course what you learn from BASIC isn't stuff that you should everyday anyway, it should just be a learning thing.

Ruby, its a really nice language.
it is a serious language also, just check out metasploit or metasm

Scratch would be easier still, but its not a toy language.
>>
>>59523371
Ruby has one problem for learning and that is no fucking idioms. Every ruby programmer writes things in a different way and they're all valid. Still doesn't teach you how the machine is doing its work but it is fucking baller for text processing.

What do you think of JavaScript ?
After my confidence in Ruby has improved I want to learn some JavaScript(Eloquent JavaScript book)

I want to learn to code and not just learn a language, I started with Ruby because I do enjoy the language but, realize i need to branch out.

Hear so many mix views on JS
>>
>>59523469
I think javascript is bad, but usable. What isn't usable is any javascript framework anywhere. Webshitters are the primary problem, javascript on its own is roughly php-tier.

Create a CPU in a logic simulator like Logisim, develop your own MISC instruction set, make some basic program, develop an assembly for it, write a compiler for the assembly

You now have your very own naturally developed language made for and by you
>>
>>59525656
cute.
but if you look at lists, you will find that english is the 3rd most spoken language if you only count native speakers.
But english is spoken by a lot more people than people who speak it natively.
Only the poor areas of the world is limited to a single language.
>>
I once wrote a visual basic program to rename Visio figures in about 15 minutes despite not knowing anything about the language before, so I'd have to go with Basic. I can't imagine the language would be terribly useful for too terribly much, though... Other than that one time, it didn't seem very useful. And it held nothing in common with most other languages, so I couldn't recommend it as a first programming language.

visual basic. You can then use it as a stepping stone into c# and then actually useful languages like c, c++, java and brainfuck. Ignore python altogether as it's horrible and has no future.

C#, it will help you understand C-like syntax and plenty of programming concepts while mostly holding your hand through things like memory management.
