I use MacOS Sierra on my laptop, OpenSUSE KDE on my desktop, and Lineage OS on my phone and tablet. Feels good man.

It's the idea of getting about 2 years of updates (if you're lucky) that mainly keeps me off android.

Use Lineage OS on a Nexus device. It'll be supported for a really long time. The Galaxy S2 from 2011 is still getting regular security updates through Lineage OS and it runs fairly well for a phone of its age with modern software. I still use a 2013 Nexus 5 as my day to day phone (though battery went to shit and had to be replaced which is pretty normal after a year or two).

Lineage OS is basically stock Android and you choose to install Google apps if you want them.
