I was gonna argue that modern shit specs are still shit specs but then I realized there's really no good handheld PC's at all, there's a gaping hole in the market being temporarily filled by concept-tier garbage, how hard can it be for someone to release something with a proper low power laptop CPU instead of these trash heaps, especially when full power laptop chips are literally at the passive cooling point
>>
>>59516256
The Win and Pocket provide Core2 Duo performance (well they've got half the single thread performance but twice the threads), that's more than enough for me in a UMPC. Hell my current one's CPU is shittier than an Atom N270
>>
>>59516296
>core2duo performance
>Cherry Trail atoms
This is what I'm talking about, if they can fit a 5w pile of shit atom like that into a folding smartphone then why can't they fit a 5w pile of shit core Y in there?
Makes no sense to release something so underpowered and then claim "it's performances is so good!" "Active cooling means it performs better than a surface!" and sell it for $600 is just fucking retarded
>>
>>59516419
I don't see the issue, why would you need more than that in a mobile device? I mean, hell, my desktop has a Core2 Duo.
>>
>>59516449
It's not about a "mobile device" it's about a "$600 for an atom with a keyboard"
Why not just buy a $150 quad core atom tablet with a keyboard cover? You don't need that kind of power mobile anyways right?
>>
>>59516508
What I'm saying is that they're selling a $150 tablet but packing it in a MacBook-knockoff shell and pretending they can charge $600 because "it's good compared to real laptop prices!"
>>
>>59516508
>>59516543
Sure the price is a little high but it's not like they've got any competition. They could charge a grand and I'd buy the shit out of it simply because there are no other options.
>>
>>59516615
Yeah, that's exactly what I said was wrong
You are exactly what's wrong about this situation
They do have competition, it's literally $150 tablets. The GPD Win at least has form factor but the pocket is literally a retarded device, that fails at filling several relevant niches while still failing to fill its own
>>
>>59516662
>Yeah, that's exactly what I said was wrong
I agree that it's an issue but I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place here, there are no alternatives
>tablets
no
>>
>>59516678
At least you have to admit that this 7" folding tablet is objectively worse than a 9" folding tablet with double the processing power for half the price
>>
>>59516710
They're different device for different things. This 7" UMPC is objectively better than a 9" netbook merely due to the form factor and size. As I said earlier, it's already got Core2 Duo performance and that's good enough for me, I couldn't care less if a different device is more powerful.

22KB, 1097x697px
>>59516743
So a core 2 duo, worse than literally any modern U processor you can find for a laptop with for $600, is worth your $600 because it's 7" instead of 9"?
I mean shit, even smartphones beat this thing, you're literally paying $400-500 just for the keyboard

>>59516906
But why compare this to desktop processors when you can compare it to the alternatives?
>>
>>59516924
Remember those M and Y series are also 5w chips capable of passive cooling just like the atom
>>
>>59516906
I can't put a 9" laptop in pocket.
>you're literally paying $400-500 just for the keyboard
Pretty much
>>
>>59516951
Can you put a 7" smartphone in your pocket?
Like a Snapdragon 820?
>>
>>59516995
I used to carry an 8" tablet in my pocket all the time
>>
>>59517019
Well 8" tablets drastically outperform the Z8700 too for less than half the price
>>
>>59517051
How many times have I told you the Pocket has satisfactory performance for my needs?
>>
Why i it that every reviewer now recommends the GPD win? Wait, you dont have to tell me
>>
>>59517066
And so does a 7" smartphone, an 8" tablet or an 11" laptop, for much lower prices
I'm not saying it isn't a neat typewriter with a router's CPU, but that anybody who would consider spending $600 on the pocket is so out of touch with his own wants and needs that he must be mentally challenged in some way
>>
>>59517120

>>
>>59517163
Are you and I the only ones posting?
The pocket is shit and fills no niches, the win is shit and fills a niche
>>
>>59517120

>>
>>59517166
>the keyboard is removable anon
That's not a good thing
>and much smaller than the Pockets lower half
I honestly couldn't give less of a shit. It also doesn't have USB-A, USB-C, and HDMI.
>I know this may be a foreign concept for you but in the future there's this thing known as optional expandability
I know this may be a foreign concept to you but we both have these things called opinions and ours simply differ.

If you wanted a mini macbook just get a mini macbook (or an iPad which is more powerful)
The reason the Win is cool is because muh gaymen, which is a pretty real consideration here
Of course a PSP with an 8 core 4Ghz CPU would be better but the focus here is portable (meaning battery life) gaymen (meaning adequate performance)

What's so hard to understand about me wanting an actual clamshell device and not just a goddamned tablet with a keyboard? Besides, this has official Ubuntu support. Let's see some tablets with that. That's mini HDMI, look at this comparison between female micro HDMI, male mini HDMI, and male USB A, and compare that to the female connectors in the photo.

No I said that most tablets have a video output and that you're a retarded Kickstarter babby for arguing that "THIS HAS FULL SIZE HDMI DOES YOUR TABLET HAVE FULL SIZE HDMI?" When it's very clear that there isn't a single image shown with full size HDMI
Don't blame this on me, I'm just lurking and laughing at you at this point

Sony's PSP-1000 beat everyone else to the finish line 13 years ago, if you care about games (assuming you guys do because of the prevalence of the gaming controls on the GPD Win).

The PSP library is one of the most well-rounded portable libraries with a game for almost every niche. Many multiplat games before 2010 had a PSP port.

There is literally no reason to own any other handheld system. PSV-1000 is the only excuse because it isn't poorly built. Every single DS flavor I owned has had it's hinge break over time through wear and tear (DS, DS Lite, DSi, 3DS), and every PSP I've owned other than the 1000 has broken too. PSP-2000, PSP-3000, PSPgo are all straight chink horseshit produced from the blubbering mouth of Sony compared to the original, premium model they produced. Same thing with my PSV-2000, feels like a cheap peice of dogshit without a grip compared to my friend's PSV-1000 without a grip.

GPD & GPD Win use PPSSPP to emulate PSP games, which leaves much to be wanted. Even though they boast higher rendering resolution, framerate cheat-patches can be applied on LEGIT PSP's because old games that run at 222MHz can be overclocked to 333MHz, which was the clock rate that later PSP games used (and the reason why there was a noticeable bump in quality for third-party games later on in the PSP's lifecycle. PPSSPP also doesn't properly emulate some moving 2-dimensional graphics (non-standard speedometers in Ridge Racer/Ridge Racer 2 do not display).

TL;DR: Get a refurb PSP-1000, or refurb one yourself. The parts are dirt cheap and you can pick up a working but dirty/scuffed up system for dirt cheap. It can emulate so many systems on top of having the entire PSP/PS1 library natively.

But I thought you "looked over all the alternatives" and "researched" this and don't just take a glance at the Kickstarter page before shitposting all over?
You argued that it had full size HDMI as a feature for several posts, without even taking one look at the actual device?

>But I thought you "looked over all the alternatives" and "researched" this
I've made it clear quite a few times that I don't consider tablets as alternatives. I'm interested in a device with an attached keyboard. I haven't looked much into the Pocket itself, I just need to look at it to know I want one because I know the last device to have come out that was remotely like it was the VAIO P.
>>
>>59518589
You gonna buy one or what?
Show me the receipt, if it's so good
Please just buy one, I WILL shut up
>>
>>59518602
I'm not preordering one. I'll buy one when I can pay money for it and have it at my door a few days later.

>>59518436
Excavator is based on bulldozer. Just calling all the construction cores Bulldozer is easier and far less autistic. If you want to be really pedantic just say 15h family CPU. Either way Excavator is still a massive piece of shit. It could run at 5 GHz stock and it would still be bad.

Where did I tell anyone to buy one? This whole thread I've done nothing but state I want one and defended my decision. I wouldn't be talking about it if you could just accept the fact that I like it and you don't. You are the whole reason you think I'm shilling.

>>59518663
I've wanted a VAIO P for years and then this comes out and has the additional benefit of being pocketable. I am certainly not backing out.

I already have a baytrail atom HTPC and it definitely is NOWHERE CLOSE to core2duo performance, and cherrytrail performs the same as baytrail
>>
>>59523883
Yeah I bought a chink tablet for $230 with a slightly worse cherry trail and the thing runs like complete shit in windows. Handles media stuff well in android though, which is what I bought it for since the screen is really nice.

>>59523883
It's got half the single core performance and twice the cores, how it stacks up to a C2D depends on the workload at hand
