they proved the opposite. that the app and its encryption are irrelevant as the CIA steals data before it's encrypted or after it's decrypted.

I don't mean to crack down on any one here. But I believe XMPP is actually a interesting protocol to try out for those who haven't.

I know what you're getting at, but your statement is factually incorrect.

Yes, using Signal doesn't mean your messages are safe from state actors, cuz they can just root your phone, negating the need to crack encrypted signal communications in flight / at rest.

But no, unless they root your phone, they can't read your messages. The leaks prove that even if bad actors intercept your messages on the wire, they can't read them.

So signal is secure, but your phone isn't.
