just curious if running the auxilary from my pc into the rca auxilary on the amp and out the headphone will achieve the same thing as a dac? curious how the old vs new stacks up since i don't have a dac to compare with my own headphones and whatnot.

No because you are passing an analog signal into the receiver. This is no Digital to analogue conversion taking place here. All it will do is amplify the analog source from your PC.

This but may still help if you have hard to run headphones, for example headphones with high ohm. If the amp is easier to send music to than your headphones, then you'll likely get slightly better audio quality using it.

If the signal's clean, and the amp is decent, then that will work for a headphone setup.
But no amount of amplification will fix a shitty, onboard DAC
