Feom my experience 7 and 8.1 have the same average FPS in benchmarks.
8.1 has higher "max fps" by 1-3 fps
10 has lower avg and max compared to 7.
min fps of 7 = 8.1 = 10.

make your choice. I did multilpe benchmarks, ran evry one of them 3 times and made a mean of those runs on my PC.
>>

The Talos Principle also uses Vulkan.

>>
Went back to 8.1.
Mainly because some games kept crashing, turns out it was a windows 10 exclusive feature. Too many things left a bad taste in my mouth, but main reason for reverting back was the issue with some games.

Eventually I'll have to "upgrade" back to that turd, but I'll stick with 8.1 for as long as I can.
>>
>>59496484
Mind you that those hogher FPS are more like some FPS spikes. Nothing noticeable. 7 and 8.1 have the same AVG which is what you're onterested.

A big fucking lie. I got a new PC with 8.1, hated the interface change from 7. Heard of windows 10, eventually upgraded my 8.1 laptop to stay up to date with the newer windows features while getting back that classic windows design. Now when I use it for basic stuff I have a bazillion different svchost.exes running, god knows what telemetry going on. Everytime I try to kill the stupid processes forcing updates behind my back they come back. It's a real pain the ass to have gigabytes of updates out of nowhere on a 1mbps internet connection. Ran out of disk space cause of this bullshit and had to open steam and quickly uninstall games to get my disk space above nothing. Also the new edge browser cant even handle running webms in 4chan. Poo in loos ruined windows.

Windows 10 is actually pretty good. It has come a long way in the past decade, from being a shit OS that you could barely rely on not to crash and erase your stuff, to a reliable platform for education, enterprise, content creators, etc.

>But, muh botnet.

Yes, this is true. However, the NSA has been collecting all digital communications for much longer than windows 10 has been around. You should be much more afraid of the gub'mint than Microsoft.

I have a dumb question. I know that windows license keys are tied to the motherboard. But what if I have two different boot drives running windows? Would they both be activated if one of them is, as long as it's on the same motherboard?
>>
>>59495172

Just out of curiosity:

Can Win10 install on a computer that has no network access at all? Or will the installer insist on trying to get updates during installation and hang forever until it finds them?

The reason I ask is because we've got some old XP machines on our production line that we've been wondering about upgrading. But, for reasons of regulatory compliance, we are forbidden from connecting them to any kind of networking or USB drives -- all production software they run must be run directly from a specially-approved DVD-ROM. So whatever OS we install, it's forbidden from connecting to the internet during or after the install.

It's not a big deal -- we can continue to use XP pretty much forever -- but it would be interesting to know if Win10 is an option for our kind of application.

Win 8.1 is actually pretty good once you install classic start. Off the top of my head it handles multiple monitors much better by letting you have a task bar on each monitor and have it only show what programs are on that monitor. Open source software has had mission critical bugs before that went unnoticed for months. Even the most minor deliberately placed bug can allow for remote code execution.

Not to mention compilers or even the hardware itself. You can use open source compilers but you can't audit your CPU.

DDG has no warrant canary and their only proof is their word. Filename related.

Maybe. It's good for a family PC because parents don't want to learn new things and there's basically only a few UI tweaks: login screen is different from 7, keyboard layout shortcuts may be obnoxious, and my problem is that UWP control panel is the new standard.
If you want to experience UWP applications (MS games, maybe?), use an Enterprise version, still can control updates and set telemetry to a minimum.
Probably the only letdown for Windows 10 N is that abandoned software sometimes detects the N version, requires MS media pack to be installed, but still can't recognize if it's installed. Other than that, well... My mom doesn't call me to tell about computer, so it's good.

what are going to do once AMD and Intel forces you to swap out a new CPU?

meanwhile
>Security researchers with Vectra Threat Labs recently uncovered a critical vulnerability (CVE-2016-3238) affecting all versions of Microsoft Windows reaching all the way back to Windows 95. The vulnerability involves the way that client devices interact with network printers, and allows an attacker to execute code at system level either over a local network or the Internet.

But they provide an anal probe as well.

You're part of the problem.

I don't mind changing settings. What I do mind, is that I have to install a 3rd party application to stop the freaking os from pushing me ads/spying on me.

I have no idea what they do or do not collect specifically, but that doesn't matter. I should be able to choose exactly what information they can see, and what information the cannot see, it's my machine, and it's running an os that I paid for.

It's the same thing with updates. I understand that it is more secure for the general populace if everyone is forced to update. But it is still my machine, so they don't have the right to choose that for me.

If anything gives anyone else control over my machine, I refuse to use whatever that thing is. In the past, they were called viruses/malware. Now, retards like you have made that behavior ok.

Somebody doesn't understand what "licensing agreement" means.

If you don't agree to it, then you don't have to abide by its terms. And you also don't get to use the software.

Time to invoke your free market options and use something with a licensing agreement that you agree to. What is so hard to understand about this?

Nobody has any "right to computer."

I've done that. See:
>If anything gives anyone else control over my machine, I refuse to us whatever that thing is.

I don't use windows 10. I said that in my post.

I tried all the bullshit to get Windows 10 to shut the fuck up. The anniversary update fucked all of that up so much it was easier just to go back to 8.1 and patch that instead.
