My work is done, and all that stands between payment and non-payment is telling those fucktards "scroll down until you have seen the entire invoice".
>>

What shithole do you live in? Teaching retards to read and use computer isn't a prerequisite for getting compensated. Unless you're literally working for peanuts, Sue them if they don't pay. Maybe that will teach them not to hire retards.

All I have to tell them is "scroll down", it's a minor annoyance, not grounds for judiciary proceedings.

Edges, edges everywhere.

Really chump, either you dont work or you have a work in which you dont have to face many people right?

Inexperienced / ignorant / pian dumb users are everywhere, from the warehouses to the most exclusive corporate offices. The real problem is that some people dont do well when they have to face their own limitations.

You can just copy the values you know. You're pretty fucking dumb for someone bitching about other people.
>>
>>59494712
We get catalogues from companies we work with in xlsm. They always get blocked by our spam filter and I have to check them for macro viruses and then send them to colleagues.

They will not learn ever.
>>
>>59494729
>You can just copy the values you know.
I know.

But then I also know that you can scroll down to see an entire page.
>>
>>59494725
>I spend maybe two hours every month making invoices.
Then copying and special-pasting only the content in a new excel shouldn't be time-consuming. Send the new excel along with the pdf for authenticity verification (you are signing the pdfs, are you?) and Bob's your uncle.

If you actually nurtured your relationship with your clients, you would actually try to glean what are they pasting that into and export to that. It'll save them time, and they will be grateful, improving your relationship with them, and it'll save you time answering complaints.

>>59494776
>But then I also know that you can scroll down to see an entire page.
Never underestimate human stupidity. You do have a contact link at the top of the page, do you?
>>
I made some PDFs for a guy and sent them to him. He says they're ok but I should send them separately, not in one email, because he needs to send different files to different people. Apparently he doesn't know how to attach a file to an email so he wants me to do it so he can just forward it.

One time I sent him a jpeg he needed for something and he asked if I could change the filename.
>>
>"anon can you translate this PDF document which has tables and columns and shit?"
>"sure, do you have the original Word doc I can work in?"
>"Sorry, no."

Two hours later.

>"Anon here's an updated version of the PDF. We made some last-minute changes."
>"So that means you have the original Word document right?"
>"Yeah, no, sorry."

Enjoy your supplementary translation fee for all the time I waste recreating your fucking columns and layout.
>>
>hey anon what does this pop up mean
>how do I scan this
>this printer isn't working
>what's wrong with my phone
>how do I copy/paste
Every single day.

This is the office of one of the largest resource management corps in Europe. My job isn't even IT related, I'm just a number autist. When I started working here 6 years ago, the woman who showed me the ropes commented on how fast I caught up. Didn't think much of it until they hired a new lawyer, and gave her the office next to mine. I'm at a loss for words, I just don't know how to describe how bad she is with technology. It's like one of her ancestors pissed off a gypsy, and she cursed her bloodline to never be able to use a computer competently.

Then its your problem not theirs. Use technology to fix it.

Remember that technology alone does nothing. The power of modern technology is emergent - it comes from technology and people both working toward a common end. You need to adjust one or both to get the outcome you want. Sounds like adjusting the people side isnt in your wheelhouse, so youre gonna have to come up with a tech solution. Luckily it sounds pretty easy. Good luck

You haven't said anything new.

People tell their stories because they are funny or they want to vent their frustrations, doesn't mean they hate those people, or that they consider themselves superior or any nonsense like that.

Different people operate at different levels at different times in their lives, whelp.

Bur seriously, some people are fucking retarded. Story time:

>doing on-call
>managing conference calls in which I drive for mitigation/recovery of impact to various services
>get engineers into the call and try to get to a safe state
>some calls involve a lot of indian guys
>one such call lately
>"our servers are not accessible, we think it's the network"
>sure sure, everyone says it's the network, I ask them for the IP, get some metrics to show when the host became unavailable
>"give us a minute"
>sure, lets wait, in the meantime I'm researching their service since they posted some links to our deployment systems so I can track down the rest of their fleet
>5 minutes pass, I ask if they have the IP
>"uh sorry, we're trying to find it"
>wat
>how do you know if a server is unavailable if you don't know it's IP?
>"our service is down: https://some.nonsense.com"
>I find their dns entries, find their load balancer, I find the hosts behind the load balancer
>me: "guys, you have no hosts, there are no hosts behind the load balancer, where is your fleet?"
>"give us a minute"
>5 or more minutes pass
>"oh, this service is not yet released"
>WTF? why are you starting a impact mitigating call to fix a non-issue with a non-live service?

The thing is, those people were not COMPLETELY incompetent, they were semi-competent, it's just that they panicked for some reason due to not having all of the necessary context about what the rest of their team was doing.

Shit happens.

> "how do I install chrome" - $40 transaction for me to install chrome
> "I want to upgrade to win10" - hands me a Windows XP laptop thicker than my bicep
> "I got a call from some Indian guy from Microsoft and now I can't get into my computer" - we have at LEAST 3 of these a month

It goes on and on, my friends. I am truly distraught with humanity. I can't wait to finish uni and hopefully upgrade jobs. This is actual hell. I had to take up smoking to get through the fucking days...

Pretty glorious, but the Bernie one was done smoother.

>Working for a client making a website
>"I want to make it so when you leave the search page and go to other pages, if you click to the search page again, the results are still there"
>Also when you log out and back in, the same results appear

Had to explain to him that literally no website has done this ever, and I didn't even know if it was possible. Unless you saved the result of the last search for each user and then displayed it when they went back to the page.

I was once asked to "install a feature" on a mouse so that you could copy, remove the mouse, place it into another computer, and paste.

not theoretically impossible, if the mouse has onboard memory like razer

although the data probably can't be very big
>>
>>59503872
No reason it can't be though. There's enough empty space in a mouse for loads of flash.
>>
>>59503077
Just save the query for each user? Maybe the results change slightly but it's a good compromise.

Retard scum
>>

Would be pretty cool if that was a thing. People would be upset, though, that their mouse was "too heavy" for their poor manlet hands.

Also no market for gaymers because they care about that too. Probably won't happen.

>you leave the search page and go to other pages, if you click to the search page again, the results are still there

this is actually an interesting subject on usability patterns of normies

every time im at my sisters, i end up evangeling her on opening search results as new tabs... its just one of several small things we take so much for granted but most users don't have a clue.

your client had in fact a great vision in improving usability, perhaps hes like my sister, perhaps he even uses newtabs now but understands most visitors to his website dont and will experience the same frustration he is trying to avoid.

some webmails, and windows 6+ file search operates similarly, in the webmail case its local save in the ajax engine perhaps.

look up tiddlywiki and similars, a hiding of the search results, ajax insertion of the contents of the clicked page on the search result, and javascript alteration of the URI (without actual window reload) would accomplish the effect, and you can even build all that ontop a nonJS version that just outputs a search result and a poweruser without js could just middleclick

>>59504128
if you're going to re-run the query, might as well cache the first couple result pages, and spare the DB
>>
>>59504077
this is actually an awesome idea. I would love a mouse with a built in usb hub / flash drive slot + spring inside.

Just stop giving any fucks. People are fucking idiots and it's not going to change anytime soon. Pointless to even think that anyone with half a brain would even enter a computer support/repair shop. Or you are just as retarded as your customers are.
Time to jade and cynisise yourself the fuck up.

That does nothing if you have an accounting dept. Not OP but our accounting dept will wait 3 to 1 day due to issue a check manually from our automated check making software program. Why, i asked one day. Cause its easier to make a check than to add the company into the program.

This cloud email spam filter spamstophere gets paid every quarter, i set it up 3 years ago.

I once wrote a program once that ran ocr on the pdf and used the text coordinates from the ocr to try recreate the column layout.
It works well for simple tables.

This must be how Trump feels with the press.

Everyone who disagrees with me is OP.

We need to send more money to Israel. They need it for the missiles.
We also need to teach our children about unprotected gay anal sex with big black Islamic bulls. It's the only way not to be racist.

We just fired a bunch of old people from our accounting department here because they pretty much flat-out refused how to learn hourly billing/AWS.

We switched all of our on-premise stuff to AWS over the last 6 months and if you've ever worked with AWS you know the billing is confusing as shit. The department lead would literally call Amazon to have them email him the excel spreadsheets because he thought logging into the billing portal and clicking the "download" button was too complicated. We were paying that guy 6 figures...

I currently work for a Uni doing tech support for Housing department.

>get call from lady in housing office, she is a known bitch
>starts yelling at me telling me she can't print a birthday card and saying she has done this for 7 years
>She hands it to me and the ink looks like its melting and smearing
>Old hp color LaserJet 5550
>paper she is using is new photo paper.
>tell her to print out a blank page on copy paper to try and clear out all the melted shit.
>Doesn't understand what I mean, have to walk to her computer to make a blank document and print it.
>Print out multiple pages finally clearing out the melted shit.
>Grab some non glossy card stock and have her print her birthday card out.
>doesn't understand why it works on this paper but not the glossy.
>tell her to not use the glossy paper
>she states again she has been using glossy paper for 7 years
>leave and continue the wagey life

currently working on getting my rss feed up.

Just send them a CSV file next time. Takes you 10 seconds, saves them (apparently) many minutes.
>>
>>59515987

Only LibreOffice can (Excel always fucks up unless you import manually) and even with LibreOffice Calc you have that Wizard dialog open.

No single user will be able to deal with these.
They are just ...dumb.
