Is freeNAS safe behind a router by default? I only want it avaialble to the local network and NOT accessible to the internet. No ports have been forwarded (at least not manually), but it IS directly connected to one of the ethernet ports on the back of the router along with my PC. Is this safe?

$800 gaming pc or pspro? (not trolling i legitimately want to know)
>>
>>59487884
At that price, definitely the PC. There are multiple reasons why.

Firstly, you can obviously use a PC for a lot more than you can do with a ps4.
Second, you can pirate almost any single player game you want for free, and emulate almost any console and get those games for free as well. Essentially, you really only need to pay for multiplayer shit.

Literally the only reason I could see anyone picking a ps4 over a pc at that budget is if they only want to play games in split screen (which many pc games have either officially or modded in).

Is ChipGenius harmful, or is this a false positive? Is it like how anti-virus software cry about demoscene productions because some use compression techniques similar to viruses? When I checked rbt, nobody seemed to have any problems with it. (Last post was 28 July 2016 though.)
USBDeview + flashboot is fine, but CG provides chip vendors and part numbers, flash ID codes, and links to chinese programs as well. Any alternatives?

How do I exclude search results from sites like amazon on google?
>>
Is it normal for my HDD to reach 54C?
>>
>>59488784
if you mean permanently exclude results, I don't know if there's a way to do that.
Otherwise, if you just mean to exclude specific results you can type a hyphen and then add the excluded terms after that.

For example, if you wanted to search for peanut butter and exclude any result that also mentions jelly, you would search for "peanut butter -jelly"

Hey, so I have a relatively stupid question.
Here's my current setup

- AMD FX 8350 with 212 evo cooler
- MSI 970 Gaming
- EVGA Supernova G2 650W PSU
- Sapphire Vapor-X R9 290
- 2x 8GB Memory
- SSD for OS
- SSD for Steam games
- HDD for everything else
- Corsair 500r case

I plan on upgrading my GPU and my CPU. GPU is dead easy but what about CPU while still keeping my other data and shit? Would all I need is the CPU, matching motherboard, matching RAM sticks and just reformat the OS SSD?

Biggest sales are black friday and cyber monday. Depending on what you want sometimes good deals pop up on Amazon throughout the year but you can't count on those reliably.
If you're so frugal you can wait eight months to save 10%-25% assuming what you want goes on sale AND you can secure one for yourself, then go for it

Also, yes, I think a sufficiently well-made cable would be waterproof, considering the plastic shielding around the whole cable (it's still there on braided cables).

I'll start from the beginning here, hopefully I will explain everything well enough that someone can understand.

Got a new laptop, Lenovo Yoga 710. Had very poor WiFi speeds on my network, all my other devices work fine. Sent it to Lenovo to get the wireless card fixed. Got it back and it was having the same issue. Complain again because all my other devices are working on my network, so it has to be the computer. Eventually they swap my laptop for a newer unit. Still not working on my WiFi. I call Verizon and tell them to send their hottest network tech. He uses his equipment and says there's nothing wrong with my internet or Verizon's equipment (router). I know take my computer over to a buddy's house who also has Verizon FiOS, doesn't fucking work. Take it over to another person's house who has Verizon FiOS, it works fine... Then I take it over to my other friend's house who has Comcast, works perfectly fine.

Now have no clue what the issue is, everything works fine on my home connection except for laptop, which is dropping 75% packets.

The step you're missing is having an Android phone that can use 3rd party repos. Jailbreak or wait for someone that knows of an alternative to show up.

It's mostly a meme. uTorrent's recent versions are shit but that doesn't make the old versions that everybody was more than happy to use at the time suddenly less good. In my opinion we've still yet to see a Windows client that's really caught up, as far as performance and general feature set goes.

Though of course this is subjective and depends on your own particular usage so I won't say someone who decides to use another client is wrong either.

Do you want a tiny explanation or a detailed one?
Bitcoin Unlimited wants to give miners the power of choosing the blocksize limit. It sounds good, and it probably is, but it results in more centralisation.
(blocksize determines the amount of transactions per second).
Core wants to keep blocksize as it is, and build a 2nd layer above it. There have been transaction backlogs and rising fees because of this(refusal to increase blocksize). They have a proposal which doubles the blocksize. However, Unlimited wants complete control for miners.
In an ideal situation, no problemo, but in this case, a huge chunck of miners are under influence of few folks, so it could be dangerous to give them control(they can kick small miners and nodes by mining huge blocks). Of course that doesn't mean that blocksize should not be increased. Core has its faults too.
BU developers are not so good, a simple attack recently took 1/3rds of nodes down(noob programming error). Another bug made a miner lose $12,000. Then there is the usual politics.
I tilt towards the core side but support neither(just staying back of this).
I can give you the problems of the core idea too, if you want.
What ever you do, don't listen to folks from reddit. Both sides lie a lot.
>>

Been a while since I did anything in Java but I believe so, as long as you as the programmer can be 100% sure that this cast will always be valid, and that no incompatible types will wind up being passed to it. Easy way to create a runtime error otherwise.

So I bought this fuckoff huge smart tv over the holidays and I fucked up royally by not doing enough research into the brand/model.
I was hoping I'd be able to do some end user customization, but here's my problem: it's an LG and it runs on WebOS 3.0 whereas pretty much every other tv on the market runs some form of Android.
It's gimped as hell and I can't find much of anything online about getting root on the damn thing, and to top it off it has ad delivery built into the main menu which can't be disabled, so I have to set up DNS poisoning if I want to hook it up to the web.
Should I just try to sell it off and look for a tv running Android, or can it be salvaged?

What is it that you're doing? If you're hardcoding some kind of javascript template CSS into the style tag why not just do it in plain text CSS?

What is the right/best way to store web pages? pdf, html, or something else? When i save a page as html it generates a .html file and a folder, and it kinda bothers me to have 2 different files for thr same thing, because the folder gets messy. Pdf would be good but it doesn't have the same interactivity

screenshot them, there is plugin for that.

The folder is for all the content of the website,if you just saved the html you would have no formating and nothing would load

I had an Acer H234H monitor which was connected via HDMI and I had this problem where it would never go to sleep when I turned the computer off or it went to sleep. The monitor would just go blackscreen and display "NO SIGNAL" which really bothered me. I had to resort to physically turning off the power button every time I was done at the computer.

The most information I could find was that it was most likely something with the HDMI cable in that it was incapable of sending the "shut off" signal from the computer. Not sure if it was an HDMI 1.0 or 1.1 or a 1.2 or whatever because there's no way to tell because all the fucking cables look the same even if they have a latest standard. And this was between two video cards, the 680gtx I had for most of the monitor's run and a recent upgrade to a 980ti. Still had the lack of sleep/turn off.

Anyway I got upgraded to a new Dell S2716DGR, and it looks amazing and came with a displayport cord, which excited me the most. Plugged everything in, monitor started right up, and it looked beautifully. More importantly, IT WAS ABLE TO TURN OFF WHEN THE COMPUTER WENT TO SLEEP. I was ecstatic!

BUT upon Day 2 with this monitor, I had a problem:
>turn on computer
>everything starts up like normal
>walk away for a bit to do other things
>come back to computer, monitor had already fallen asleep/off
>move mouse
>doesn't wake up
>type on keyboard
>doesn't wake up.

I had to resort to shutting the computer down and restarting. Then the monitor came back on.

Waited for the computer/monitor to sleep again. Tried moving mouse and keyboard and nothing happened again.

Apparently there's an issue with this monitor where it will refuse to wake up from sleep. And it's a DisplayPort issue. So now, I go from a monitor that never sleeps to a monitor that refuses to wake up. I since switched out the DisplayPort back to HDMI.

My question is: is HDMI incapable of sending a shutdown/sleep signal to monitors (and is DP better as a result)?

Password managers.

What exactly do people do with these things? Are there people who are really not able to remember passwords?

I use random password generators, and usually go with 14 characters unless the service doesn't allow something that long, and I have less than 10 of them to keep track of, so I just remember them.

What would a password manager do for me, everyone says they should be used, I just don't know for what.

There are people out there who process memory differently, like people with photographic memory or those who remember every experience they've ever had as if it was 5 minutes ago. Since evolutionarily there's been no advantage to it until now, it's generally been more of an aberration than a sign of superiority. But if you're one of the lucky few, good on ya. You could probably impress the fuck out of some students as a math teacher.

Okay, so I went back to the HDMI cable and I'm not happy about it.
But not before having to reinstall my graphics driver because I guess (I don't know how this shit works) I had a custom color profile with the DisplayPort cable, and when I restarted the computer with the HDMI cable, it got confused and broke the Nvidia Control Panel. Wouldn't show up when I rightclicked on desktop and when I tried to open it via Start menu I'd get an Appcrash.
So anyway HDMI seems to work, but in Nvidia Control Panel, I can get 2560x1440 res, but only 60hz. With the DisplayPort, I get the res AND a choice of up to 144hz.

Is HDMI shittier? Does it not have the capability to do 144hz refresh rates?
>>
>>59499496
HDMI can do 144Hz if the monitor supports it, but it's uncommon, most will only accept 144Hz over DisplayPort or DVI dual link

You man EAX? Hardware support hasn't really worked since XP was around, since Vista broke the way it hooked into DirectSound for security reasons. So it hasn't been used directly by games for years. Engines that used to use it can be ported to use OpenAL instead which does most of the same effects purely in software.

Okay guys, 4chan has been killing my productivity lately, so I need to make a change. I want to block it at the router level, but I also want to leave one particular board open (biz). How do I do this? Add 4chan.org/* to blacklist and just whitelist /biz/? Would that work?
>>
Where can i pirate wordpress themes?
>>
>>59499613
And how is it for old games? Can I emulate EAX if the game itself wasn't updated/changed to OpenAL? I heard about ALchemy but I don't really understand it.
>>
>>59499652
Usually blacklists supersede whitelists. You would have to blacklist ever other board individually.
>>
>>59499958
ALchemy is supposed to work for emulating it, but it hasn't worked properly for me before. There is a modified version that doesn't need a creative card http://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/28-creative-alchemy-universal/
