The XPS 15 and the 15-inch MacBook Pro are the only two laptops worth buying today. End of story.

As an owner, it had some serious growing pains with firmware. Lockups when plugging in an external monitor via Thunderbolt, independent of operating system. Random flicker, because Skylake graphics are half baked.

It's a fantastic daily driver now, but I don't enjoy being a beta tester, and I won't be buying from Dell again.

That's more of an Intel issue desu; that sort of shit happened across most brands. Skylake was badly rushed to market.

If I ever buy another laptop from Dell, first thing I would do is wipe the hard drive clean and reinstall the OS. I put that off on my Inspiron, and now everyday I get pop ups about Dell's backup and support services. Really annoying.
>>
>>59482771
4k screen on the 9550 is absolutely awful. The motion blur is bad enough to be problematic with PDF reading. The text turns into a green mess when scrolling, the color shifts off-angle.
Coil whine issue, but it wasn't as bad as some other terrible laptop I've heard.

I suppose we're on the 9560 now, so I'd also like to add that I would prefer something other than a 16:9 display.

>>59484335
The 15 inch one is the size of a normal 14 inch laptop. A little smaller even.

Quad core mobile chips is the outlier here

You are affirming that the XPS 15 has a quad core, right?
>>
>>59485957
Could you not figure that out by reading my post? It's the "improper" mobile cpu
>>
I owned 2 Dell laptops a decade ago and they were absolute shit. I will never buy another Dell product again.

If you're saying that "i7" takes precedence over "mobile" then boy do I have an i7 for you!

I'm very confused
The i7hq in the XPS 15 is a 4 core 8 thread CPU. That's what makes it proper, as opposed to a ulv i7 which is a dual core and essentially an overclocked i5
>>
>>59486021
Why are you pretending that a 4.5w dual core CPU is the same as a 45w quad core CPU with hyperthreading?
>>
>>59486032
All mobile based I7s have been dual core
A quad core mobile chip is not "proper", it's the outlier
Intels desktop and mobile lines have never had the same naming implications, a desktop i7 has never been the same core design as a mobile i7 until the fairly recent Q series broke that tradition (as well as tripled the tdp)
>>
>>59486055
Why are you? It has 4 cores and the i7 badge so it must be a "real i7" right?
>>
>>59486081
And I'm talking about the quad core 5w chip
>>
dell.
>>
>>59486032
>which make it an i5
"I5" mobile processors have been dual core since i5's existed
>>
>>59486081
Literally yes

>>59486180
Bro ill sell you my i7 for cheap $100
>>
>>59486069
What the hell are you talking about

They used to all be quad core
Then the ulv ones were dual core, making them just overclocked i5s and not significantly better in any way
But the HQ variants of mobile processors maintain their original core counts without cutting them out, hence being "proper"
So a proper laptop i5 is dual core, but a proper laptop i7 is a quad core.

What is difficult about that?
>>
>>59486213
Does that has a 45w TDP with 4 cores and HT? Then it's not a real i7
>>
>>59486244
I can make it have a 45w tdp if heat is important to making you feel better
>>
>>59486231
>they used to be all quad core
False
>>
>>59482771
its not a thinkpad
>>
>>59486253
I don't even know what kind of autism I'm facing right now.

A quad core hyperthreading i7 is a "proper" i7 in most ways that matter.

You showing me how gimped core Y and ulv processors are doesn't change that
>>
>>59486284
But you're admitting they're true i7's, hence why I wanna sell you one bruh
>>
>>59486284
Or an Intel atom true i7?
Powerrrr
>>
>>59482771
Uhh no dedicated graphics?
>>
>>59486337
>>59486366
You guys are literally arguing against the things that I'm not saying
>Proper i7
High power consumption, quad core, hyper threading.
>Not proper i7
Dual core, low power consumption

So you guys meming about false meaningless i7 branding is the same thing that I look down on
So I don't understand why you think that disregarding shit CPUs affects the good ones
>>
>>59482771
15 inches too much for me to carry, the performance gains are there but I only game lightly on the go (Emulators and such). 13 inches
>>59484309
pretty much this
>>
>>59486440
GTX 1050
>>
>>59484309
BIOS?
>>
>>59486284
What in saying is that Intel has been calling things from dual cores to 72 cores "i7's" across all platforms starting from the first generation, calling something "true" just because it has some arbitrary core design you think is good is stupid, when Intel doesn't even do that
>>
>>59483262
Yeah, the only flaw is the webcam positioning, but you know how you make it into a good thing instead?

The bottomm bezel is black and makes it really easy to just put some black electrical tape on it and forget about it forever.
>>
>>59482771
>dell.com doesn't load with https properly
TRASH IT GOES INTO
>>
>>59486456
The term is based on the idea that it most closely resembles a desktop i7, and thus can be called proper

Also based on the fact that 15w ulv CPUs started to replace 45w CPUs in equivalent sized/branded CPUs so the hunt for full voltage and core counted i7s became more rare and difficult in medium to smaller sizes laptops

Only autism and disregarding common sense would get you upset at people commenting on how the XPS 15 is commendable for having a good CPU

Desktop shill

Laptops are literally using the same components. Same dimms, same ssds, same gpus, same usb/hdmi/dp connectivity.

Only the CPUs are different and unless you need an 8core desktop cpu, there is barely a performance disparity left to speak of.
