Post your component list, rate other anons', and ask questions in general.

Always state the purpose of your PC, your budget, AND YOUR COUNTRY if outside the USA.
If you are asking for improvements, clarify whether you want to lower price or to improve specs or build quality.

Assemble your parts list; built-in price comparisons by vendor and a compatibility filter.

Looking to build a Plex Server/NAS for about 2-4 users streaming. I was also looking at maybe getting a Ryzen Cpu once there is a decent ITX board available. May take awhile... I wasn't planning on using ECC memory, but I can switch it up if it's absolutely mandatory. Suggestions?

How does this look, especially the case. Want something that isn't "gaymur" and has no side window. Am planning on getting Ryzen 1500X.

This. Normies aren't redpilled on the gimping of Nvidia. You could probably sell it for close to the retail price.
>>
>>59471642

What is amusing is the 480 (and later, 1060) effectively gutted the used market but still people tried to sell their 780's, 970's and 780ti's for way more than they are worth entirely because "muh nvidia".

Its like they learny nothing from the 290x basically halving the value of the OG titan overnight.

So is there ANY indication on when the rest of the X370 boards will be back in stock?
>>
>>59471688
Its a choice now. You either pick a good brand from AMD and stick it out for 4+ years. Or you get an Nvidia card and either use an upgrade program, or sell your card and get a new one every 2 years.

I was so convinced that I would get a Vega card when it came out, and bought a 480 as a stop gap to replace my 7970GE now. But I just don't know anymore. The 480 is really nice.
>>
>>59471255
Is a 7600 (Non K) a good upgrade from a 4460?

PC is for gaming, country is Canada.

I want to improve the current specs.
>>
>>59471911
no
>>
>>59471924
What would you recommend over it?
>>
>>59471911
lmao, CPU for gaming

I'm still running on an i5 3570 from 4 years ago
Still runs anything I want perfectly.

I can't believe people actually get shilled into falling for the i7 memecores meme.
>>
>>59471952
It's not a bad choice. It might be worth the effort to get a K part and overclock it, however.

You say you WANT to improve your specs, when your current CPU is pretty good as it stands. It would be better if you already had an overclockable CPU. The best recommendation is to get a K intel CPU. AS even if you don't overclock it, you can in the future if you find your performance is aging.

In summary: Get a 7600K at the very least.
>>
>>59471784

>>
>>59471784
>>59472064
ok man, if you are really going to spend 1100 dollars, I tweaked the list.
I only used NCIX like the blogger did, and I managed to get you:
a chip that can overclock
a watercooler
and a z270 board
https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/Kpcrnn
>>
>>59472222
sounds good
also would it be better to have 2x4gb of ram or is 1x8gb stick equally acceptable
>>
>>59472289
since you arent going for every scrap of frame possible, 1 stick of RAM will totally work
the reason you use 2 is to take advantage of "dual channel"
>>
I'm building my first PC and the cpu power cable won't reach if I go around the back, it only fits if I run it straight up.

Is this bad? It's kinda close to both the cpu fan and the rear case fan.
>>
>>59472994

I assume your psu is at least semi-modular. Run your cpu power cable how you can for now, then order yourself a longer cpu power cable and run it up the back.

I want to build a budget pc (700-800 dollaroos) and already bought a case (http://www.corsair.com/en-us/carbide-series-200r-compact-atx-case) and I;m not sure if I got memed on.
I want a PC that can just focus on running games smoothly, I don't need no 1080p or 4k shit, just a pc that can consistently run at 60fps, I just finally want to be able to play Overwatch with my friends (who game on PC).
Anyway I was wondering if this is a good guide/build to follow: http://www.logicalincrements.com/
I'm following the "Superb" build.

I just want to make sure I'm not getting memed on before I build my first PC and finally be able to play "next-gen" games (last console I bought was PS3).
Like I said I just want a PC that can run games smoothly and something that just works, no need for max settings n shyyt.

Not memeing. 1050 Ti is the king of budget cards and runs most current games at 1080p 60fps

It's even an overkill card for Overwatch. And it's around $130-140 USD, very low power consumption, and doesn't require 6-pin connector. Just insert into the board and done.

>>
>>59473413
Never go msi, and always choose gigabyte over assrock. If you want overclocking, its a tie between asus and gigabyte
>>
>>59473413
Well, that depends. 1155 socket is outdated, 1150 is on its way out, so 1151 is the standard today. If you don't mind shelling out some extra bucks for 1151 and a 6th gen Intel, go for it, but CPUs are overkill for what you want, so you can go for a 1150 socket and 4th gen i5 and save some cash. You really are not going to notice a difference if you just light game.

The funny thing about /g/ recommendations for brands is they're always completely wrong.

For example in 2016 it was MSI that had the lowest rate of motherboard failure, I think. ASUS had the highest.

In power supplies it was Seasonic that had the highest rate of failures with EVGA having the lowest.

This is all adjusted for marketshare btw.

But keep in mind that none of the above had over 2% failure rate, and the differences were in the 0.2-4% range between brands.

I am seriously torn between two cases.

On the left, the Phanteks P400TG. On the right, the Phanteks Pro M Acrylic.

Same price, same basic design philosophy but a few key differences.

Advantages of the P400TG:
>Tempered glass side-panel - more resistant to scratches, easy to clean and superior aesthetically
>Built in LED controller with an included LED strip
>Cleaner interior design

Advantages of the Pro M:
>Optional HDD bracket for a third HDD under the shroud
>Optical bay
>Front panel controls on the windowed side of the case for convenient access

It's form against function. The P400 looks way better but the Pro M has a more versatile layout.

What do I do?
>>
>>59474676
Yes but the 470 also == 480.

The 480 is not good but the 470 is 10% slower and 50% cheaper

Tower 900

But seriously, it depends on if the LED is RGB and controllable through Aura and whatever the fuck MSI and Gigabyte have that's the same damn thing. If it isn't, it's in the way and the Pro M is automatically better.

If it is, i'd go P400TG because tempered glass is pretty boss.
>>
>>59474710
I was stuck between that same decision (ultimately sprang for the Corsair 200R but that's besides the point). I would personally get whichever is cheaper. They are both good quality cases, one just has the jacks and USBs on the side while another has it on the top. Really up to your preference on where you want to plug in your stuff. The P400 also doesn't come with things in its bays for HHDs and SSDs, so I would go for the Pro M.
>>
>>59474710

They're the exact same price.

>one just has the jacks and USBs on the side while another has it on the top

Jacks on the side are convenient since I use a wired controller for emulators but is it a deal breaker? That's the question.

>The P400 also doesn't come with things in its bays for HHDs and SSDs

The TG version comes with brackets for both of the SSD mounts, while the Pro M only has one bracket to three mounts. Neither case comes with the modular HDD brackets but since a front-mounted radiator blocks all of them that's fine with me.

The big advantage of the Pro M is the extra drive space. Both cases come stock with two HDD bays, but the Pro M has a spot to put an additional drive next to the PSU. That's handy, because my 2TB is getting full and I'd like to get another one, as well as a 4TB drive for media storage. But with the extra SSD bracket in the P400 I could fit a 2.5" 4TB in there and still have room for two 3.5" drives, and calculating the cost of the extra HDD bracket and an LED strip it's higher than the premium for the 2.5" drive over a 3.5" drive.

So it's all a fucking wash. I'm very conflicted.

>>59474740

I know but it's $20 more than the P400 and pretty much outside my budget (to be frank, both of these cases are stretching my budget already).
>>
>>59474771

Power consumption is a deal breaker for me, there's no point on replacing my PSU-raping HD7950 with another power hungry card that barely overperforms it.
>>

good luck with that one. benchmarks have been an absolute shit show with 90% of the reviewers purposely skewing shit in Intel's favor and the other 10% benchmarking crap nobody will ever do. Who the fuck games at 720p?

A proper benchmark would have both games using a 1080Ti, both setups using 16GB of 3200MHz RAM at 14 CAS, on Windows 7 or Linux WITH the latest kernel that just came out last week, on games that were not compiled with ICC. So basically we're not getting it.

What now, shitlib? Fox News is on YOUR side.

Even Fox, though! Fox did nothing but shit on Trump, but they did it from the perspective of "republicans" who wanted "someone else" to be their candidate.

Y'all don't get it. Liberal and Conservative are just labels the people in charge use to divide us when really we're all trying to get the same thing. The only real political parties are Good and Evil and guess which one has the majority.

Both parties are liars. We all know how much republicans lie, because they don't even bother to hide it. They just selfishly promote policies that benefit themselves and nobody else, and they get away with it because their idiotic constituents believe them when they lie about basic economics, science, and other things you learn in your first year of college. And then of course they follow through on their promises to fuck the country sideways because republican voters are too stupid to know what's bad for them.

Democrats, on the other hand, are in charge of manipulating educated liberals. Obama is a great example of how they campaign on things like open government, net neutrality, climate change, anti-warfare, freedom, human rights, education, and then he turns around, does fucking none of it, invades 3 more countries while cutting our defense budget and expanding domestic surveillance, and becomes the most secretive administration in history. And his so called "legacy", obamacare, is shaping up to be a way for insurance companies to enforce a monopoly, so enjoy those $600 annual premiums in a few years if you're not in a state with medicare expansion.

Putting a build together when I get paid in just under two weeks. Pretty much know what I want except the case.

Can anyone recommend either smaller ATX mid towers or mATX cases? I'm taking this to university so I don't want anything gigantic.

Fractal Define C. It's designed to be as compact as possible and comes in ATX and mATX configurations.

It's an old benchmark. 480 performance has improved since launch.

So, can you still get away with pirating windows?

It's obviously a cost i never really add to my builds, and to be honest, i don't have much problem using Linux for a month or two.
>>
>>59476138
Probably the best card for 1080 gaming imo. Nvidia will slowly stop supporting the 1060 and the 480 is only supposed to get better.

rx 580 when ? I'm afraid that the changes will be significant between 480 and 580, even though the latter is going to be a rebrand
>>

I don't care about brand. Nvidia lost my business when they starting charging for companies to use gsync and amds free sync is free for any company.
>>
>>59476224
I'm on the fence if i should go for a 480, wait for the 580 (couple of months, no big deal) or get something more powerful that'll be more future proof
>>
>>59476253
I plan on going 1440p soon and am gonna wait to see what vega is doing. If you game at 1080 the 480 is the best card for the money right now. Or get a 1080 now that the price has dropped.
>>
i have my 1700 ordered on the way but i just cant work out which ram/mobo to go for with all the different issues people are having.

Hey guys, working on a new PC build at the moment. Here's the list https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/f8gy3F

This will be my first build which I will be overclocking and am a little worried about my PSU being powerful enough as well as the case not being too packed and possibly causing overheating.
>>
>>59476656
>am a little worried about my PSU being powerful enough
650W is more than enough for basically anything that doesn't involve multiple GPUs or CPUs.
>>
>>59475251
Yeah, its pretty good
60fps stable in BF1
>>
>>59476243
Its gonna be just a overclocked rx 480, don't worry about it

idk if this goes anywhere

I have my old PC build from 2008 with a few upgraded parts: Q6600, 8GB DDR2, MSI motherboard, Radeon RX460, 350W Corsair PSU, Antec 300 case

I looked through Ebay and even there used Intel CPUs cost a fortune

I'm using Win7 until at least 2020 so Ryzen doesn't seem to be a good choice at this point (unless someone figures out how to re-enable Win Update on that platform)

should I wait or go for pic related? all other parts will be taken over from the old build

Is ASUS 24" VG248QE still a good monitor choice? I'm considering getting it over my old ASUS ML248H 60Hz monitor.
>>
I have a i5 2500k OC'd to 4.2ghz and a r9 380. Thinking about building a new pc instead of upgrading, partially because my case was somehow damaged during a house move and all my front USB ports don't work as the pins are all fucked. No idea how that happened.

I could just buy a USB extension block and plug it in the back for more USB slots, and upgrade my r9 380 to a RX 480. Will a 2500k bottleneck a 480?
>>
>>59471255

>>

normally i try to make sure it has a badass dragon on it or the heatsinks look like a gun or something like that so it would look cool through my case window and i try to make sure the colors on the board coordinate well with my case lights

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/tX8C9W

>all good, or anything you'd change/recommend?
>what's a decent, cheap case?

My budget estimate was about ~$1500 to spend. I looked up almost all the parts this week, and they're cheaper than listed here, so i'll have some left over.

A friend told me I should consider a Gigabyte motherboard with built in wi-fi. I couldn't find any helpful information on that though.

Get a 1 tb drive to shave off $100, then put that towards a RX 480 or GTX 1060.

>>59480926
You could stand to get some RAM with heatsinks. If you are getting a budget build, 1TB is more than enough. Toshiba is a good brand as well. If you are building ~$800 you could also just get an AMD GPU as well. Only Nvidia cards worth getting for budget builds are the 1060 6GB (and even that is stretching it). Just get a 470 instead. You can get a better case for that same price. If you can I would get an EVGA PSU as well.

Anyone have a list of pc cases that will fit an H212 EVO cooler in them? This is starting to become a pain in the ass. I thought the H212 EVO was popular, but barely any midtower cases fit it, and even then they come so close to rubbing the end of the case. Then you get mixed information from forums and shit, some saying they fit, others saying they don't fit, or sometimes barely if you're ok with the ends touching, and all of these guys have the same case and cooler, are you shitting me. There's gotta be a better way to do this than buying both the case and the cooler and finding out yourself. It's ridiculous.

A gold PSU will pay for itself if you plan on keeping it for a long time. Storage seems a bit lopsided compared to the rest but I won't question your use case, it's cheaper/GB to buy large drives anyway. Other than that everything's good.
>>
>>59474456
What he mean is that it's tested and rated out of the box and guaranteed to be a one-click OC with XMP
Considering how many ram stick don't overclock, or even works with xmp, it's a fair point to make
Someone who sells a 2133mhz stick already sold the ones that made it to 3000mhz
