At least it's not made of chintzy plastic. If you're worried about denting a computer than you should take better care of it. The SSD is noticeably slower than an iMac's fusion drive SSD, no idea why. But is there any computer out there that doesn't thermally throttle? I'd say it's a lot better than the computer burning on you. You can buy parts. You can legally fix them, but it breaks the warranty.

Problem is people don't want to buy a thicc-book anymore. I agree that the lack of serviceability and replaceability is a travesty, but the average consumer would rather have something more compact and lighter. That's just the audience apple's style took them to. If only it never appealed to hipsters in the first place. But I'm pretty sure you can put any OS on the latest MacBook pro, I don't think they have any intention of stopping that, but I'm not sure.

>>59471002
I think you mean hipsters.

So when you buy the next iPhone, the one with USB C instead of lightning, will it's cable be USB A on the other end? Or will there be a USB C on both ends? How does the machine know which way to send the electrons, and how do you know which way to plug the cable in?

The hip crowd's using tablets for blogging anyways these days, I don't think they care about minimal key displacement, and I don't see why anyone should. If you like typing then get a good external keyboard, otherwise deal with it. It's hardly too much worse than the previous model.

As someone who uses graphic design tools, I think having another variable scroll tool is a great idea. The overpriced apple magic mouse is both a mouse and scrollball, and so lets you pan across the image in all directions with ease, without reverting to jerky keyboard shortcuts. Any mouse having detented scrolling is fucking stupid unless you're scrolling through a hotbar. Anyway, the touchpad would be useful for panning through colour palettes, selecting tools, and changing brush sizes in a continuous fashion without having to move the mouse from the work area. If you're not doing video, audio, or graphics editing then it's almost objectively worse than the function keys. In the end it is another thing to go wrong, and the lack of escape key does beg the question as to what shortcut will be used to force quit. I think it would be much more sensible if it was an optional feature for both models, and an available feature for external keyboards.

Nice opinions and falsehoods there. Apple is introducing new features, such as the touch gimmickpad, because they're also developing the software that it's to be used with. Screen bezels are a meme, they don't matter that much. Yes shitty I/O. Round corners don't pierce your thigh, in no way are they a bad feature. They are expensive, but that doesn't make the product good or bad. Best looking stock OS out there my friend. Everything's made in china, something about economies of scale, you know.

>>59473210
Is the new aluminium chassis weaker then the previous one? Because my early 2015 model feels really sturdy. It's got a few superficial scratches, but the chassis itself hasn't deformed. There are some times I'd quite like a much larger trackpad, but I don't think sacrificing hand rest positions is worth doing it.

>Is the new aluminium chassis weaker then the previous one?
Probably not. The problem with these aluminium chassis in general is that they're too rigid. It's not a good quality to have in a laptop, or a phone for that matter.
It "feels" sturdy because it doesn't flex if you try to bend it, but all this really tells you is that the metal is less likely to absorb the impact in case you drop your laptop, thus making the force of the impact go straight to the internals.
There should be a certain amount of flexing if you try to bend your laptop a little. It shouldn't bend all over the place like a piece of soft rubber, but it shouldn't be so rigid that it cannot bend even a little without deforming either.

There are few laptops with an actually good chassis on the market today. That cheap ass Acer machine that skimps on everything and uses trash quality plastic with no reinforcement isn't one of them, but neither is your 2000 dollar aluminium macbook.

It's simply far more cost effective to use a sacrificial shell than building the entire thing to be drop-proof for two metres. I don't know what kind of phone you have, but I bet you wouldn't trust it to be dropped out a window a metre onto concrete. Same goes for any laptop. If everything was built to industrial wear standards you'd still have to replace the damaged proprietary hard casing for a couple of hundred dollars instead of just replacing the case for forty. It's common sense.

2 meters meters would probably be pushing it.

I use a Lumia 950. It has a plastic clip-on back, much like the cases you buy to protect your phone. It saddens me greatly that I likely won't be able to find a phone with similar hardware/design once I replace it.

No standardization and suppliers making things. The idea would be nice but it requires massive collaboration between many, many people and companies. Its easier for PCs because there's a box box to put everything in. Laptops have millimeter tolerances.

4 different people making a motherboard, trackpad unit, palm rest and bottom housing, to be used in many configurations with other parts, actually fitting and working? Its impossible.

I think the touchbar looks like a neat idea, but I'll just wait for the tech to mature, especially how the apps take advantage of it.

I actually also considered one of the high-res T series Thinkpads, but there's no way I'm buying a much bulkier laptop with not as good resolution and a much worse touchpad when I can get the MacBook Pro for roughly the same price (Thinkpads are clearly the overpriced ones here). Ok this is either stupid or genius. I guess there's some sort of charging hierarchy between devices so the wall adapter (that this is meant to plug in to) charges the laptop and the laptop charges a phone, but if you plugged one laptop into another could you charge one from the other? I kind of liked having one plug for input and one plug for output when it came to USB power, but I guess this makes data transfer between a phone and a hard-drive much easier. Will USB-C be the only USB ever needed?

Automated download and automated installation are two different things. At worst the MacBook is wasting some of your bandwidth and battery's life, but it requires your authentication to install. As long as it starts downloading when you're not downloading anything else, I don't see a particularly big issue. It's not like macOS Sierra is objectively worse than the previous operating systems or anything, I wonder which technology giant could even think of doing that?

Well from my experience it's easier when all your PCs are running the same OS, it means you can just run the same install script to get all the programs on everything, and it's the same process to install printer drivers etc. for the lot. Put another OS on it sure, but then you're being ripped off for having to buy another OS and not using the OS you technically paid for.
