I'm pretty sure you can make a lot more money like that, than selling fart apps plastered with ads to end-users. Enterprise is where the money is, at least if you want to release the bulk of the code under a free license.
I've eased up over the years and started to see selling proprietary software to companies is not nearly as bad as selling it to individuals. If companies want free software for themselves they can either employ programmers to make their own or buy entire proprietary codebases outright. That's a power individuals don't normally have.
