Is it too late to start a career in IT? Am I too old?
I am 26, from Germany, and have worked as a teacher so far but I plan to quit my job and get an apprenticeship in some local IT company. Should I do it or will I end up as some expendable code monkey working for a shit wage that will be replaced by an Indian in 5 years (as I have been told would happen)?

Yeah Mohammed, you are getting too old to learn new things.
>>
>>59453063
Do your best, take chances, take all oppurtunities, dont be afraid to ask, keep growing, keep climbing
>>
>>59453063

You're 26.... how could that be considered too old in any capacity?
>>
>>59453138
nobody will hire a 30 year old entry level IT person
>>
>>59453138

Also, there are many aspects regarding IT, not just muh coding

>quit my job and get an apprenticeship in some local IT company
You can do this in Germany?
>>

I should have phrased it better: I know I am not too old to learn new things, but I don't want to end up being the 30 year old guy with almost zero experience who has to compete with people that have been coding since they were 15.
>>

Sadly not true Ive seen people too stupid to be ashamed transfer from automotive tech and other menial labor type jobs.

Master from Dortmund reporting in; it's literally never too late to learn new stuff; there are more open IT positions in Germany than IT ppl.

That's if you wanna make money; however the real fun lies in research IMHO, Computer Science is interesting AF

When I entered college at 18 I knew nothing about coding and there were guys who had been coding since they were ten.
They dropped out because all other skills they had sucked hard. No social skills, terrible teamwork, shit at writing documents, no planning etc etc.
Use those skills you probably have from experience and you can go really far even if your code is no good at all.
There is more than just the technical aspect.
And most things are new anyway. Nobody has great experience with every technical aspect.

26 is totally fine. Just don't lose motivation because some are better at things. They probably suck at something else you are good at.

Start by learning C. Never post hipster bullshit "code artisan" pictures like that ever again, you fucking fag.

Learn C in 24 hours: http://aelinik.free.fr/c/index.html

well that's what you're in for

Care to elaborate what is going on there?
>>
>>59453063
>Am I too old?
No.

>>59453167
No.
Shitty startups won't hire 30 year old entry level IT persons because they don't want someone with their shit together to work for them. They want people without families, ready to churn 24/7 until they burn out.
>>
>>59453167
My own life is proof that this is completely untrue. Stop being a fucking retard.
>>

>with people that have been coding since they were 15.

those are actually fairly few people
