Is it just me, or has MacOS come a long way from the steaming pile of shit it used to be?

>Dropped PowerPC
>Can be run on a custom PC using off the shelf parts
>Much more stable than in the past
>Actually decent selection of applications compared to a few years back
>HFS+ is finally being replaced
>Desktop actually looks decent

I know the hardware still has a lot of catching up to do, but is anyone else excited that Macs might actually be becoming usable? Finally we have an option besides Windows and Linux that doesn't make you want to shove your dick in a blender
>>
Its always been usable you dumb cunt. You're just happy that your poorfag Hackintosh works.

I would switch to mac if they dropped their godawful desktop environment and let me run GNOME or KDE. Aqua feels like trying to run on sand. Fucking exhausting and unproductive
>>
>>59450561
2015 was the year of the linux desktop my dude. Now that support for windows 8.1 and 7 is ending on Kaby Lake and Ryzen, Linux is going to be literally the only usable desktop OS.
It's fucking sad really. Linux is OK, but microsoft used to actually make decent software. Maybe OP is right and Mac will get better.
>>
Idk why /g/ throws an autistic fit whenever MacOS comes up. If you're not a gamer, MacOS is objectively better than Windows. It doesn't shove ads in your face, it doesn't force restarts on you, it supports high DPIs way better, etc etc.
>>
>>59450570

>I would switch to mac if they dropped their godawful desktop environment and let me run GNOME or KDE

Autists, everyone.

Can anyone say NOGAEMS?
Keep using your hipster hobbyist OS. I'll continue using Windows like an actual human being.

I don't get why people think English food is bad. It's great if you have the bollocks to try it.

>implying it isn't less stable now (tiger, snow leopard and mavericks are the most stable versions)
>implying Mac OS X didn't have the best applications already
>implying it didn't look better before
The only valid complaint is HFS+, but it's not that bad and APFS isn't that good either.
>>
>>59450784
Bitrot is real and fucking horrible when it happens to your. XFS/ZFS is the only safe option right now, and neither is perfect.
>>
>>59450495
When they release a proper workstation computer I'll think about it. I don't mind paying a little more for quality, but the current Mac Pro is a fucking Joke. Shit specs and still not cheap.
Too bad they never will support power users again. Give them 10 years and I bet they will drop MacOS completely.
>>
>>59450808
Hardware should compensate for it. It's your fault you're using ancient technology.
>>
>>59450864
>drop MacOS completely

How will they keep iOS locked down if they allow devs to use it to make apps?

There will always be a need for macos
>>
You can also now write native applications without a gobbled together C derivative with brackets up the fucking butt.
>>
>>59450894
make xcode for ios, duh. it will be locked down too
>>
>>59450495
are you fucking mental? it's gotten worse recently. apple doesn't care about desktop users anymore and the os has declined in quality.
>>
>>59450864

>Too bad they never will support power users again. Give them 10 years and I bet they will drop MacOS completely.

>Apple and all its media connections
>dropping macOS

Are you 14 or just delusional? Tim Cuck just vaguely answered questions concerning it, assuring people something is coming soon. I'm not too sure about how TB3 would work on an AMD cpu, if at all, but my guess is that Apple were waiting for Ryzen and Vega. Imagine a Mac Pro with dual 36 core Nipples CPUs and some of AMD's MI series shaved down GPUs.

hello retard with bad taste, allow me to enlighten you

running it with off the shelf parts is now harder, not easier, due to lack of recent GPU support.

it is in fact much less stable then in the past.

3rd party OS X development has pretty much come to a complete halt in the past couple of years, especially since Yosemite

it looks 10000000000 times worse than it used to.

well, think of it like this

They're slowly, perhaps very slowly, improving user experience with each release, while at the same time dropping some performance maybe.

So things that should have been there long ago are there now, like folders on top, like being able to show and hide files with a keyboard shortcut, like merging folders, etc etc. These things are seemingly stupid, but they're being fixed and the same old file manager is being constantly improved, as well as other applications within the system.

It also achieves things that are harder to work with on both Windows and Linux, or at least require more time to do so. If you have two computers and want to set up file sharing or VNC between them it's dead simple, even more than Samba which is already pretty brainless.

Aside from that, it's just a more convenient OS generally speaking. It does more than Windows if you use your OS for things other than games, and it does quite simpler than Linux.

I recommend hackintosh, I don't think you should have to buy expensive hardware to enjoy this OS and to be fair it runs amazingly well these days.

I disagree. Yosemite was shite. El Capitan was gold. Sierra seems like a minor update not worth being treated as a major update, and at first it was pretty shitty too.
>>
Why does anyone even care about MacOS, you know they've completely abandoned power users, right?
