Daily encrypted backups

Well, I have written scripts to do periodic backups -- except that I don't bother encrypting them.

If I encrypt it on the external media, then it still remains unencrypted on my primary machine. So if a thief breaks in and steals my primary machine, then having the backups encrypted won't do anything to prevent the thief from seeing my data. Hence, no need for encryption.

Why would I encrypt it? The only stuff I care about backing up is stuff I personally made, none of which is financially valuable, but has sentimental value to me. I'm not a sick fuck pedo, so what should I worry about?

Sounds like you don't need to, so don't. I have code bases and other sensitive stuff for work and personal things.

I occasionally use clonezilla to do encrypted backups. I don't know why because when I have catastrophic failure I don't bother to restore backups. I have no valuable data that isn't already automatically synced between a collection of dozen VPS.

I have backups (everything important is on my desktop, my """home server""", and an external drive) but it's not encrypted. I made a conscious choice to assume that my home is physically secure in my threat model, since that's likely the case (I live in a fairly well-off and lily-white suburb) and because if you assume that its unsafe, your security problems get an order of magnitude more difficult.
