Anyone still on sandybridge and see no point in upgrading it yet?
>>
>>59449256

im on Ivy Bridge and see no reason to upgrade in the next 2-3 years at least.
>>
I'm still rocking an i7-2600 with 8gb and see no reason to upgrade yet for what I do. Gaming, shitposting, and streaming video work fine and I expect nothing to change in that regard for a while. If Ryzen 5 is just released shilling 4c/8t as mainstream performance that's all I need to know. Besides, even at 3.2/3.8 ghz my single core performance isn't bad by modern standards thanks to the Intel plateau.
>>
>>59449256
I have a Sandy Bridge lappy, and it is finally beginning to show its age. 4gb of ram just isn't enough anymore.
I'll just buy an new macbook when this next batch comes out.

Hope this helps Anon.

still on phenom II overclocked and see no reason to upgrade.
why don't they release good games anymore?
>>
I'm still on x58. Running a i7 920 @ stock speeds. Thinking about getting a Xeon for x58 and overclocking the hell out of it and upgrading in maybe two or three years.
>>
I'm waiting for the 100+ GHz Diamond procesors to be released.

2600k reporting in. I'm eyeing the new Canonlake CPUs coming out later this year. The 7700k is really only about 30% faster which amounts to maybe 5fps in games. Not really seeing the point in upgrading until 10nm CPUs are available.

gotta do a lot better than +30ish% (+15% turbo single core laffo) for the basic mobile i5 before i upgrade. ~*power efficiency*~ and ~*muh igpu*~ ain't enough of a sell either

Man, the 7700k is not even a 30% impovement over the 2600k. Most benchmarks are under 20%. I can't believe we've only seen a 20% improvement since 2011. Sad.

2600K @ 4.5GHz here.

If anything, the i3-7100U is the more interesting Kaby mobile chip in that it's right on par with the Sandy i5s and i7s found in [used business laptop] we jerk off over on /g/, but it's going into laptops that are selling for $350-$400 new. That's not *too* much more than what [used business laptop] goes for on eBay, and it will have a warranty, DDR4, stock 802.11 A/C, better battery life, etc. Whether you can live with yourself for owning a fucking Acer laptop though... that's a choice that only you can make.

i7-2700K @ stock. Use it for music production. Perfectly fine and always has been. Better processor than the people I collab with.
>>
Yes. 2600k @ 4.5GHz here.

I'm upgrading to an 1800x anyway, but honestly, I don't need it.

>>
>>59452220
It's on average 18% better. I'm going to upgrade from my i5 3570k to an i7 2600k that's been tested for 5ghz because of this.

Fuck i wish X79 motherboards weren't so expensive. There's a dude selling many i7 3930k CPUs (6c 12t Sandybridge) for $150 USD.
>>
>>59453755
Nevermind it works out to $134 usd for those i7 3930k.

I just upgraded so my 2600k rig is now sitting on the side waiting for a new purpose.

Storage server mayhaps. Feed it to a starving orphan. Use it for all the shady file storage sites that want to have javascript/flash enabled.
>>
I'm on Haswell and want to switch in the next 2-3 years
>>
>>59449256
yeah. my i5-2500k is still killing it.

GPU needs an upgrade though. My HD 6950 is rickety as fuck and I'm getting sick of AMDs shit

>>
>>59454698
Because the GPU sucks
>>
>>59449256
I'm on ivy bridge and I definitely see no point in upgrading.

I seriously doubt I would be interested in upgrading until Tigerlake at the very earliest.

For me, single-threaded performance is everything, and a i7-7700K only beats a i7-3770K by 24% in single-threaded performance. There's no point for me to upgrade unless I can get at least a doubling of single-threaded speed.

2600k clocking in. I know people still on Nehalem and Westmere that dont see any reason to upgrade. I only wish I had VT-d for passthrough support.

Check your thermals jesus christ. Reapply thermal paste, check for dust, and make sure there's proper airflow in your laptop.
You can get one of those pads that has fans on them if that helps.
