Seiko Lord Marvel 5740C - manual wind 36,000 bph. No hacking. Very good inherent accuracy, very reliable.

Seiko LM Special 5206 or 5216
- the 52xx is one of the greatest a series produced automatic movements a of all time. Automatic, micro-adjuster for regulation, hacking, hand winding, good reliability, cheap, lots of variety. Pic rated is a gorgeous blue sunburst dial variant.

King Seiko 5621
-Suwa Seikosha produced KS using a 28,800 bph version of the 56xx movement. Inferior to the 52xx but still good and the 5621 avoids the issue with the quick-set for day and date breaking because it's time only. Hacks, handwinds, micro-adjuster, etc.

King Seiko Special 5245/5246/5256
- hard to get for below $250 now, but are some of the finest automatic timepieces produced by Seiko before the quartz revolution. Highly adjusted and regulated versions of the 52xx movement as in the LM Special.

>are king seikos the old grand seikos? Are we going to be seeing $200 grand seikos?

Probably not $200 ever due to inflation but maybe the equivalent of it. If you look at pre-quartz crisis watches like 99% of them are worth fucking nothing regardless of how expensive they were to purchase. Most of GS's lineup look like upmarket Seiko 5's so I can't imagine a lot of them holding value long term. Some iconic models like the Snowflake will probably retain value though, and likely even increase significantly in value if they ever get discontinued.
>>
>>59446887
that's a nice dial.
>>
>>59447050
for you
>>
>>59446668
Google Suwa and Daini. In old times Seiko was split into two factories that developed watches completely independent of each other. Out of Seikos luxury watches one factory made the King Seikos and the other the Grand Seikos. After the quartz crisis the two factories merged their technologies together with only keeping the Grand Seiko name.
>>
>>59446668
Unless Seiko at some point in the future decides to stop making Grand Seikos, it is unlikely.

Vintage watch prices are heavily affected by whether or not the brand still exists today and still has a good reputation for quality in the present. Vintage Grand Seikos are not especially cheap compared to their in-period Swiss competitors today (e.g. Omega, Girard Perregaux).

Since the King Seiko brand is not used today and is only generally known amongst vintage Seiko collectors--and because Daini Seikosha remains under appreciated relative to Suwa Seikosha--vintage King Seikos are still available for a much better value than vintage Grand Seikos. This is true even when they share the same movement, such as non-VFA 45 GS models going for multiple times the prices of 45 KS models, even though both use the same movement and were produced by Daini Seikosha.

At first I thought it was going to be some horrible scam with gold plated quartz shitters, but as far as low end watches goes that Kickstarter is fine. They're upfront about using Sellita movements and the kickstarter page doesn't use the word "luxury" once. Plus the designs are original without being some enormous Invicta-tier monstrosity or other garbage.

Not going to back because I'm a brand snob but if I saw someone wearing one/supporting the campaign I wouldn't exactly call them retards considering the price is reasonable for what you're getting.

Lads, some advice pls

I'm considering purchasing an expensive dress watch - looking at a Jaeger Master Control

I want it for special occasions and rare important business meetings, otherwise it will be stored away for safekeeping

I'm reading tips online for maintenance and storage and many of them say that even if you don't use your watch every day, you should still wind it up everyday or get a watch winder

Now is this really nesecary? Or can I just wind it up whenever I want to wear it?

Again, this watch would serve a special and rare function

Also, I'm reading that magnetism can mess up an automatic watch, and while I was in the airport the other day, I was wondering if the TSA scanners things would be any hinderence to an automatic watch?

Also I'd appreciate any tips or advices in general. Cheers :)
>>
>>59448300
I'd like to know this as I have a manual wind watch am I really supposed to wind my watch up every damn day?
>>
>>59448300
you should wind watches at least once a month to spread the oil/lubricants

you're still a fag for wanting to buy a safe queen instead of wearing it
>>
>>59448345
>>59448300
I have heard it is better to keep it wound
>>
>>59448345
I wind my watch every day

if ya know what I mean
>>
>>59448300
Try looking at Jaeger LeCoultre quartz watches then, though I'm not sure if they even make them.

Keeping it wound introduces regular wear, but having it stopped for long periods might have the oils "set".

When I traveled abroad with my mechanical watch I just took it off and chucked it into the tray, X-Rays should be harmless to a watch. I don't know about Fatistan airports, but on Yuropoor ones there's very little chance of anyone snatching something off the X-Ray tray.

Afaik, in the case of a JLC master control, it has the Calibre 899 movement and therefore is lubricant free. Am I right here or is there something I'm missing

If you don't wear it regularly then yes, you will want to wind it every so often (at least once a month) and have it serviced every 5-10 years.

As to the magnetism thing, I'm pretty sure JLC balance springs are made out of some special material that will prevent their shit from being fucked but I'm not completely sure.

I have just bought this Citizen Radio-controlled watch. It's the h804 AT8110-61L (hmm, which seems to be the 53L for the american audience),30% off its European retail price.

Well, it's quite heavy for my tastes, around 130 grams, i was tempted to buy a super titanium version, but it wasn't available.

The radio signal is received well, astounding precision, watch is solar powered like all modern Citizen watches. Perpetual calendar and auto DST. Date and day, its also a chronograph.
I'm really enjoyng it.

Kind of a watch related question here. I want to get into clock repair and then of that goes over well I'll move into watches, but for now it's clocks. How noob friendly is it to get into? I've watched some videos, read up about it, going to start reading clock repair books when I get back home, and have examined as much as I can with a clock I already have without the proper tools (I'll get them later)

Is there hope for me?

JLC Master Ultra Thin
or
Patek Phillipe Calatrava

I can get more complications on the JLC for the same price as a basic Patek, but, you know it's a Patek. I think it will hold it's value better too? What do you reckon lads?

My budget is about £10k and those are the kind of dress watches I like. VC a little out of my price range I think. Any other suggestions?

Of those two I'd take the JLC. Even in comparison to the other overpriced luxury watches, patek is massively overpriced.

They also don't finish their more entry level movements to the same level as the megabux ones. For comparison, ALS movements have the same level of finishing applied, but the more expensive ones just have more complications.
>>
>>59457571
I'm not a fan of that particular Calavatra's bezel, so I'll vote against it.

Dont buy a watch for its resale value, and get them used, could save you up to 40%. At your budget I would be looking at an Arnold and Son time pyramid, piaget altplano 900 or a GP 1966 annual calendar. I my point of view if you're gonna drop fat stacks on watch atleast have them be a little exciting. Vintage Calatravas start at around 5k and again imo look nicer design wise.

How many degrees does an automatic watch's rotor have to turn to provide power, like if it was moving back and forth 30 degrees would it be winding the watch or does it need to move more like 90 degrees?
Now obviously each different movement would be different, but could anyone provide a ballpark figure? maybe for the 7S26?

Oh wow never mind I just realized 10k gbp is only like 11k eur, you cant buy any of the above mentioned for that.

Normally it would depend on gearing ratio's but Seiko uses a magic lever system so thats a little more difficult. Does your Seiko have a display caseback? Just turn the rotor and look at litte clickspring in the winding wheel. From what I can remember I think its about 360 degrees per click
>>

I cant think of anything cool to get at 10k thats not already mentioned. (Maybe a Rolex 1530 kek) I would mention that Rolex and patek are a lot easier to get rid of in a hurry then jlc or vc. (Btw none of the watches I mentioned are even remotely gaudy if you get them in the superior steel or white gold versions. Am deeply offended.)

You should keep in mind that complicated watches have longer service times and higher costs and can sometimes be broken by the user. In the end i would go for jlc

Exactly, Breitling watches are a joke. They overkill on military aesthetics, and shows no restraint on the bling. They're the TAPOUT t-shirt equivalent of high end watches. It just screams insecure manchild. They even name their line after a fucking gun, over compensating much? The only thing more devoid of dignity than their design is the movement: just take ETA movements off the shelves and put their spin on it to meet COSC (as if it's any challenge), call it in-house caliber, wash their hands and go home all in one day and no shame. Only pinoy sand niggers with no taste or class would find these desirable. Being seen wearing one is emblematic of owner's terrible decision making skill, equivalent of driving a Hummer.

Why do people buy Seiko 5s as their first watch and not these?

You get a far superior (Seiko) movement for the same price.

New strap improved the watch 10 fold, Why do seiko ship the watch on that shitty dark brown fake plastic alligator strap?

It's the wrong shade for the watch, it's not even real leather pretending to be alligator leather, it's plastic.

Seiko buckle is brushed while Hirsch buckle is polished.

Pic is not mine, but I'm done already. Cleaned the gunk out with WD 40, took it apart and oiled it. It had like at least four old balance staff stuck inside jamming it.

There are two or three broken punches, but those can be replaced.

Short anecdote:
A lot of times normies bring back their shitty folded bracelet Q&Q under warranty, with the springbars breaking.
>"This is the third time this has happened already!"
>"How did it happen?"
>"I don't know, It was like this when I woke up. Can you put in some stronger springbars?"
It was already maximum thicc springbars. These people are literally pigs.

Also if Vostok is best military/diver slavshit, then Raketa has to be the GOAT civilian slavshit manufacturer. Most of their watches in their old catalogs are maximum AESTHETIC.

SSB033 as a new quartz beater (pic related, steel bezel) for chronograph function and pseudo mechanical feel due to sweeping chrono seconds and fast reset?

or Orient Ray II which has come way down in price.

OR spend an extra hundred on a turtle for the certification meme

nope just sharing the perfectly good watch I ordered

other anon who suggested I get an Orient Bambino made a really nice suggestion. I think I will go with one of them in a couple months too
>>
>>59462065
It's called the Raketa College or Calendar. The 1984 catalog lists it as 2628 H/231455, but no one trades Raketas by model number like they do with Vostoks.

>>59462083
Google how the one made by Orient works, same method.

>>59462137
if you like it, then good on you. I could sit and nitpick it because I don't like it at all but that doesn't really mean anything because you like it.
>>
>>59462185
are you talking style wise? or mechanically? because im interested in hearing what makes one watch good mechanically over another

I will say that I had a Seiko Solar and it wasn't very accurate; every couple of months it was off by a few minutes which was a bit annoying
>>
>>59462083
that wheel on the bottom has years that match up to the printed calendar

>>59462176
not in the same way that a patek is, but it does show the calendar accurately for the years it is made for
>>
Hey guys what's the best smartwatch that still looks like a classy watch, I was thinking I'd buy a gold apple watch, but I'm open to suggestions.
>>
>>59462145
Correction, the 231455 has applied indices, while mine has printed roman numerals (with typical to Raketa IV instead of IIII). All I can say for sure is that the case number is 231.

>>59462176
Not exactly, Orient calls these multi-year calendars. Also you'll eventually run out of years, this Raketa has the years on the rotating disk only till 2000. But you can either look up what years were exactly like this one, or figure it out with the watch itself (1995 and 1989).

Nice, I used to have one like that too. They are really sought after because of the hacking function. That model also went to space with some Japanese cosmonaut.

>Good deal on the Buran. I think you can definitely resell for 150-160 depending on the condition.

Nevermind, just got the package, wound the watch up and realized it's broken. I've just started a dispute on eBay, hope I get my money back soon. Really hate when this happens, already the third time in 2 years buying vintage shit.
