Do you think that """""hacking""""" TV shows and movies are making an influence on society?

Do you think more people are gonna get into cybersecurity for real after watching stuff like Mr Robot?
>>
Do you think more people are gonna get into the police force after watching CSI?
Do you think more people are gonna become doctors after watching Grey's Anatomy?
Do you think more people are gonna become famous cooks after watching one of Gordon Ramsay's shows?
Of course not, you fucking retard.

It might not be 100% because of shows, but they do influence people down those career paths.

Especially those forensics shows.
>>
>>59431905
>"""""hacking"""""
There's a reason they don't showcase actual hacking in TV shows and movies: it's fucking boring to watch.
>>
Only people who wish to cause mayhem but don't see any feasible approach.

Hacking is one of those more feasible approaches.
>>
>>59431905
Why should this bother you? If they don't know their stuff they won't get very far anyway.
>>
>>59432583
Some types of attack is quick.
>>
>>59431967
They do, retard.

>what is scully effect
>>
>>59433860
do you have any sources to back that up
remember, correlation is not causation
>>
maybe, but those people will be iq and resource limited so only a few will actually do anything.
>>
>>59433045

or people who want the power of being able to access info that most people can't access
>>
When the news came out that Bill Paxton died , some were admitting how the movie Twister had some influence on them going into weather science.
>>
>Do you think that """""hacking""""" TV shows and movies are making an influence on society?
Yes, they are.

>Do you think more people are gonna get into cybersecurity for real after watching stuff like Mr Robot?
For real? No. Most of them are just like front-end web designers who mistake themselves with a real programmer with real computer science background. Being able to use security oriented distros such as Kali or Parrot may make one a succesful "pentester" but a not a hacker IMO. If you don't know what is going on under the hood when using those exploits, you are not a real hacker. Just like the difference between an "engineer" and a "technician".
>>
>>59434076

all you need to be an engineer is some applied physics
>>
>>59433969
That can be achieved by using a thin tube to find out what the inside of your own dickhole smells like.
>>
All tv shows are made to (((influence))) the masses, hell even the sleeping beauty movie has a fucking gay kissing scene, just gotta follow the money
>>
>>59434979
>sleeping beauty movie has a fucking gay kissing scene
well that's fucking disgusting. way to make your audiance vomit in their mouths.
>>
>>59434237

And all you need to be a hacker is to understand exploit primitives and state machines.
>>
>>59434632

Oy faggot you can't save a doctor that way
>>
>>59433678
Not really, any binary exploitation is the result of hours and hours of reversing and research
Just using the exploits isn't really hacking, developing them is
>>
>>59433866
Anon is correct as a cursory Google search would show you.
Also I've read reports on such programming, and can confirm from experience of numerous cases.
This is why there will be a particular """fashion""" of TV shows.
e.g. CSI to promote law enforcement, Mr.Robot to increase cybersecurity candidates, etc.
TV shows are the puppet strings pulled to get a particular type of rat to push the wheel.
>>
The only people who got excited about the hacking sequences are nerds who are interested in the first place.

Normies don't give a fuck
>>
I bought a hacking laptop after the first season so yes they most definitely are
>>
>>59436666
Checked, hacking laptops are the future kek wills it invest in dell BOYYYYYYS

how many cops were there before CSI huh?
how many doctors before Grey's Anatomy Huh??
how many famous cooks before Gordon Ramsey HUH???
>>
theres more people in cs because computers are part of everyones daily life from birth
that's new for people born after ~1995. it's not really unique to program anymore.

but security and cs are very far apart, so no.
>>
>>59432583
same goes for actual medical work or actual police/investigative work. Hacking seems to push the limit a bit further, however maybe thats partially because as a non-doctor/cook/LEO we miss the bullshit.

>Do you think that """""hacking""""" TV shows and movies are making an influence on society?

Sure, let's see the lessons the goyim is supposed to learn:

>opening scene, haxor snitches on tor porn sites because moralfag
>silkroad is operated by le killer mob
>bitcoin is le devil
>m4d h4x0rs apparently have time to e-stalk everybody, 24/7
>to preserve anonymity, let's all meet IRL (?!)
>....

Sure that's how it's supposed to work goyim, trust us.

>Do you think more people are gonna get into cybersecurity for real after watching stuff like Mr Robot?

Nah, it's far too cringey for that. A bit less than CSI, but the main problem is inconsistency. While the shows makes some accurate references to contemporary infosecfaggotry, it is still mixed with too much of CSI hollywood, making it annoying.

The haxorfag on House Of Cards was far more believable, for example.

As for the whole "getting into infosec" angle, this thing is going to be hilarious. While most of codemonkeying can be dumbed down with automated tools, infosecfaggotry is a narrowly creative talent combined with deep understanding of how systems work, which can't be easily dumbed down. You can't throw monkeys at the problem in there, you'll end up with useless ./metasploit script kiddies. Oh, and now add gender equality to this shitstorm. Fun times ahead.
