What do you mean by this?
uBlock Origin allows you to hide elements on a website, but also blocks ads completely.
>>
>>59429389
>blocks ads

uBlock Origin can only hide ads. It can't really block anything.

>>

What's the point in using uMatrix? It just breaks every site you go to.
>>
>>59429400
>as if blocking via hosts is any different
It does in fact block ads from loading, at least once it detects the ads on the webpage. Hiding the rest of it finishes the job.

It's not really necessary to use both uMatrix and uBlock. uBlock has quite granular filter options now. And if you want to have the uMatrix experience, just use the "default-deny" mode that is explained on uBlock's github.
>>
>>59429438
It doesn't break every site, but I admit that it can be annoying.
But after you have set up your rules for all of your frequent websites (which is the whole point of this plugin) everythings works fine. Also, it's nice to see all the useless shit that websites load usually.
>>
>>59429318
Haven't heard of SmartHttps. Why is it better?
>>
>>59429333
Firefox nightly has the dark theme built in, so you don't need an extension for it.
Also, umatrix has a user switcher so you don't need a separate extension for that either.
>>

I'd assume you're not technically inept.
The average user doesn't want to spend time figuring out why the website isn't working and reload a site 3 times to get reCAPTCHA to work.
>>
How do I uMatrix?
Can a tech illiterate mange to use it properly or should I just stick to ublock origin?
I'd love to block all the google and social media shit outiside of their websites.
>>
>>59429745
You won't be able to post on 4chan if you do so.
>>
>>59429745
You can do the same with uBlock Origin. Just subscribe to the appropriate filter lists.

uMatrix isn't that hard to use.
In regards to configuring it it works similar to uBlock Origin. You can also subscribe to filter lists (only a few lists are there by default).
Just try it out.
>>
>>59429745
it's a grid with a things in them, you have to decide which things you want to load and that may take some time to get used to
>>
>>59429498
It basically ask sites if it has https instead of loading it through a huge list like HTTPS Everywhere does so it is a little faster.
>>
Should I use uMatrix if I block all scripts by default in uBlock Origin?

>>

Why should i use Umatrix instead of noscript?
>>
>>59431387
Because NoScript dev is a moron and NoScript extension is a resource hog. uMatrix is lightweight, more powerful, and better from a privacy pov as it cuts the connection alltogether (does not even initiate it), rather than just not executing scripts.

Left side is list of sources, top is request type.

Green means allowed, red means blocked. The numbers are how many blocked requests. Light green is when it is allowed because of a cascaded rule, e.g. The green "CSS" means all CSS is allowed from any source

Are uMatrix and Noscript comparable?
I'm a fan of how uBlock Origin handles things and would consider switching because same author, but I'm also pretty used to noscript.
>>
>>59435068
>Are uMatrix and Noscript comparable?
Not really. With both you can block JavaScript on a per-site basis.

But NoScript has more other protections like anti-XSS or anti clear-click stuff. (Although, desu, the latter was sometimes annoying and don't think I ever needed the former.)
uMatrix has more options like block, cookies, CSS, images, frames, etc.; and some features like referrer and user agent spoofing.
>>
>>59435138
Thanks for the comparison, could have just tested it myself, but I'm a lazy person.
Will give uMatrix a go though, looks like it might replace some other plugins and I follow a less is more approach when it comes to plugins.
