I posted this in the last thread right as it was dying so I'll repost here.

I have new machine that I just built and I'm using Ubuntu. I can hardly do anything with it. My software center wont show anything to download. I've tried installing things via the terminal with apt get and that just returns errors. Idk what to do. The way things are, I can't even open an mp3.

You shouldn't spend anything on a computer worth negative fifteen dollars. Just arrange the parts in a way they're not a fire hazard. You can likely rent a VPS for less than the cost of powering that old thing. Or just run a headless VM if you already have another PC on for other stuff.

I just installed Kubuntu on a additional HDD i had laying around from a CCTV System and ran it off my pc no problem.
The deal is that i want my BIOS to ask me from what device to boot from, as i have both windows and Kubuntu each running from their separate HDD as i want to stay away from MBR shenanigans.

How can i do it?

Why would that be gray hat? If I have one popular website and I make a new website and link it from my already popular website, Google will index the visits as a higher quality than other websites - therefore indexing it higher.

Your partition schema is a mess, but if the "new partition" you have selected came from one of the "free space" allocations then it won't delete anything from /dev/sda6 just as long as you don't delete /dev/sda6 or try installing to it.

I'm trying to learn the basics of nmap. I want to scan my local network for hosts. My router uses 192.168.0.0 address space. But my DHCP settings only use a total of 153 addresses, 192.168.1.100 through 192.168.1.254

When I do
nmap -sL 192.168.0.0/24
[/code/

It scans a shitton of addresses that I simply don't need to scan; things like 192.168.15.233, which I know can't be in use because of my router's DHCP settings.

Can anyone offer any insight into how I would specify to nmap to only scan addresses from 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.254?

Here's how I meant to format it:

I'm trying to learn the basics of nmap. I want to scan my local network for hosts. My router uses 192.168.0.0 address space. But my DHCP settings only use a total of 153 addresses, 192.168.1.100 through 192.168.1.254

Look at /24 means (CIDR notation)

If you only want the first 153 addresses
192.168.0.0-153

Ah, thanks.

Though I'm a bit confused. I know I have several hosts on my network between 192.168.1.100 and 192.168.1.110, yet it doesn't appear to be returning anything when I scan that range.

set your hdd as your boot device and run "sudo update-grub2", nigger

should give you option to boot either botnet from another hdd and your loonix system from the hdd GRUB is in

there is no risk in running update-grub2, so do it, this doesnt touch your botnet hdd
>>
>>59428977
just to clarify my understanding is this that it should scan what it can boot and if your botnet hdd is connected it should find it, you should get something like this

Generating grub configuration file ...
Found background image: /usr/share/images/desktop-base/desktop-grub.png
Found linux image: /boot/vmlinuz-4.9.13
Found initrd image: /boot/initrd.img-4.9.13

Found linux image: /boot/vmlinuz-4.8.15
Found initrd image: /boot/initrd.img-4.8.15

then when you boot from the HDD where you have your loonix system GRUB should give you option to boot either your botnet windows on another hdd or loonix

Boolean z = (zip.Length != 5 || Regex.IsMatch(zip, "^[a-zA-Z]$") == true) ? false : true;

Get a better PSU, since it is literally the heart of the computer.
Drop the DVD-Rom unless you are living in the early 2000s.
You can buy a Windows license on reddit for a fraction of buying retail.
>>
>>59429069
You should get an ssd.
Why are you buying a WD Purple drive? Only useful if you're putting it in raid. You aren't buying an ssd, and you're buying a 5400rpm drive, at least go for a 7200rpm drive jesus.
Do you need a dvd drive? Do you honestly have ANY use for it? If you don't it's just wasted money.
Why are you buying a single 16GiB ram stick? Would be better off buying 2x8GiB, put them in dual channel for better performance.

It seems a shame to spend so much on cpu + gpu, but then cheap out on storage so hard.

Are you currently posting from a pc with 10 home already? Just download the media creation tool, and write a bootable image to usb. Install from the usb, then use the key you got from the disk, it'll install way faster. Also there are grey market places that sell windows 10 keys for way below retail.

>>59429355
>The dvd drive is for windows
see above
>and installing drivers
Don't do this, download the newest versions from the manufacturers site. Often drivers on those disks are YEARS out of date. Also if you download the drivers individually you can only install the parts that matter, not all the bloat software that comes on the disk. Avoid bloat software as much as possible, only install programs for your hardware that you actually need to use.

I do it every time, because it's easier to send some dude in Romania $5 on ebay then it is to work out which Windows cracks haven't been fixed. Back in the 7 days Daz's loader was the shit (legitimate .exe checksum is 323c0fd51071400b51eedb1be90a8188 , easy to find on google with the checksum ;) ) but it only works in legacy boot bios mode/mbr drives, and only for 7. Didn't stop microsoft from upgrading my Daz's loader pirated 7 to a legitimate 10 key for free during the upgrade period.

See attached pic. When the cpu is doing shit threads can jump around between different cores. When that happens the some data that the thread is using (registers) needs to be transferred from one core to another. On Intel, every core is equally connected to every other core, so this takes a constant time.

With Ryzen, the time that this takes is much lower than Intel. BUT, that's only for cores within the same core complex, ccx. For swapping to cores in the other ccx, the time between cores is way longer. So you get a performance hit when that happens compared to the same ccx.

Current Ryzen 8 core is a 4+4 (4 physical cores in each ccx, for 8 threads in each ccx with smt). Six cores being 3+3 is disappointing, could get better gaming perf if they were 4+2. Same with the four cores, if they were 4+0, perf would be way better as nothing would ever need to cross that high latency connection between ccx's. Although since the chips don't exist yet, it's possible that latency between ccx's could be lower due to the lower number of actual physical cores in each.
>>
>>59430495
Thanks for the detailed reply, that's actually more or less how I how understood it.

Any reason AMD chose to do this? Is it to keep production costs lower because their CCX made of 4 cores all go into making R7?

Checked the event viewer on Windows? Ran memtest?
>>
>>59430551
I don't know why they decided too, but I'm sure that if they could connect all 8 physical cores at low latency then they would. There is no benefit to the ccx's otherwise, perhaps they exist to keep latency lower within themselves? So applications that use 4 threads will perform better than if it was between all 8 threads at a higher latency?

>>59430161
That's just comcast being comcast.

nah you should be fine. You can grow ext4 partitions while running. Delete the others except for your UEFI partition, and you should be ok.

You just need to sort out how your bootloader is working. Your sda5 Linux install doesn't rely on say AntergosBoot to boot does it? Since you've got so many on the one drive I assume that you can sort out your bootloader yaself.

Well, because It’s not meant to be easy. It is meant to make you learn about each piece of software, and let you choose literally *every* piece to build your system.

Some maybe not so unwanted side effect is that it keeps the user base elitist, which is somewhat nice ’cause power users aren’t as much an hassle to help; and when newbies comes, they have to be willing to learn, or they won’t get far, so it is building the next gen of hackers, and that’s the awesome part.

I agree it may looks asocial, yet it makes Arch & Gentoo the most attractive OS for the power users.

To quote the Arch Linux’s philosophy:

>User centrality

>Whereas many GNU/Linux distributions attempt to be more user-friendly, Arch Linux has always been, and shall always remain user-centric. The distribution is intended to fill the needs of those contributing to it, rather than trying to appeal to as many users as possible. It is targeted at the proficient GNU/Linux user, or anyone with a do-it-yourself attitude who is willing to read the documentation, and solve their own problems.

>All users are encouraged to participate and contribute to the distribution. Reporting and helping fix bugs is highly valued and patches improving packages or the core projects are very appreciated: Arch's developers are volunteers and active contributors will often find themselves becoming part of that team. Archers can freely contribute packages to the Arch User Repository, improve the ArchWiki documentation, provide technical assistance to others or just exchange opinions in the forums, mailing lists, or IRC channels. Arch Linux is the operating system of choice for many people around the globe, and there exist several international communities that offer help and provide documentation in many different languages.

If at all possible, try wiring your PC directly into the modem (bypass the router entirely) and do a speed test. That should give you a general idea of what the upper limit of your current connection speed is. Compare that with whatever your ISP is supposed to be giving you (10mbit, 50mbit, etc). Keep in mind, though, that even in seemingly optimal conditions you won't -always- get the advertised speed; however if you're getting significantly lower than what you're supposed to then there's likely actually a problem and replacing the modem would be something to consider.

It's really easy to pirate 7. If he messed up bad enough that you're getting notifications, he was probably dumb enough to install a version with malware in it. I'd do a clean install.

yeah it actually did fucking go in after all

if (value == root.value)
return true;

what the fuck is this?

else
{

if (root==null) {
return false;
}
contains(root, value);
}
return false;
}

and in main
System.out.println(contains(n5, 3));

it's because of the recursion, isn't it?
what a load of shit

you call contains but don't do anything with it's return value.
so you always fall down to your last return false.
Try returning contains return value.

I have a stupid question about Prolog, I have a predicate concoct(X,Y,Z) for three lists X,Y,Z which is true if X+Y=Z, so for instance if X = [1,2,3], Y = [4, 5] then Z has to be [1,2,3,4,5]. How can I use this to determine if a list is a palindrome?

it's a boolean though, I'm hoping the print will print TRUE but it never does, even when the method goes into the 'return true', which it does

it's not going to return true unless your first call returns that.
all your second calls to contain are useless, it's like they aren't even there since their return value isn't returned.

There's a couple of arch based distros I want to try out, but I'm not sure if they're just absolute shit or unsafe etc. Anyone got a solid rec for me for one that is prepackaged with proper audio and video drivers and shit, along with a decent gui? I just wanna use a linux distro for my gaming instead of windows, need to start using windows for work only because I keep getting distracted recently, plus I've wanted to try out linux for something besides light web browsing on a shitter laptop. Currently looking at manjaro and apracity, but no clue if they're easy to use for my stupid ass or not. Trying to play on steam at medium settings with my 144hz monitor, my parts aren't fancy new but they're not old as shit either, if that matters at all.

>>
>>59436938
Manjaro is the easiest arch. Although for maximum game support your best bet is ubuntu, so I'd go with mint. Also there will be a lot of game that aren't available on linux, in case you didn't know
>>
>>59436971
ryzen is brand new, there aren't many motherboards out yet and most have the more highend chipsets, the lower ones will come out later that year.

I've been struggling for over 2 hours already, trying to make an mkv with embedded subs into -any- file with hardcoded subs.
I managed to extract the sub, it was sup format, so I used another tool with OCR to convert it to srt.
This srt file works perfectly, but I can't use it with avidemux because that needs ass files, and both the built in converter and another srt to ass converter I found output blank files for some godforsaken reason.
Any ideas?

you could make a script that uses imagemagick and put a shortcut to it into the sendto menu, so you could run it with rightclick -> sendto -> jpg

>>59437402
the photo viewer won't be able to do something like that, because its only capability is displaying the photo.
You would need to use a photo editing program like paint or photoshop, but I'm sure you know how to convert a picture to jpg with those.

What about something that adds the button to the right click menu? If things like 7zip or an antivirus can put stuff in there maybe this woud be possible too

While that seems exactly what I need, I'm on windows and the guide tells me to
>set following environment variables (global or through batch file)
>FC_CONFIG_DIR=.\fonts
>FONTCONFIG_FILE=fonts.conf
>FONTCONFIG_PATH=.\fonts"
I have no clue. I found environment variables and added those 3 in the same way I added ffmpeg, but I keep getting the error 'Fontconfig error: Cannot load default config file'. Do I need to add those 3 lines somewhere else?
