What /g/ think about HD 7970
>>
its better than my 4550
>>
mine 5850 2GB is good enough
>>
Still very good for 1080p gaming.
>>
>>59415217
This fucking card.
Had it from 2009 up to 2015 and it never made any problems.
>>
Still rockin the 6850
>>
>>59415274
weedz got me
>>
>>59415217
wish my 6870 was 2GB. It still a good card
>>
>>59415077
I have 2. When crossfire is supported properly and you don't ramp up the settings too high 2160p gaming is no problem.
>>
>>59415077
Toasty as fuck, but basically guaranteed solid driver support through at least 2020 thanks to RX 500 series being Polaris/GCN rebrands.
>>
>>59415077
Tahiti (rebranded also as the R9 280/280X) was the last of AMD's GPUs to support RAMDAC/DVI-I output.

Until the day somebody puts out a high-spec DP converter dongle, they'll be the best way to play on high bandwidth (100+ kHz h-sync) CRTs.
>>
>>59415428
It would still be good if it got fucking driver updates.
>>
>>59415077
Can't be bad, I have a Sapphire 7850 2GB and that shit is still able to do most games on high settings at 1080p
>>
Why doesn't Nvidia extend their cards' useful life like AMD does?
>>
MSI TwinFrozR 7950 here.
Still going strong. Not even considering upgrading.
>>
>>59415077

Good cards, 6xxx 7xxx were the pre-Radeon to AMD purchase glory days, during the Fermi debacle.

butt mine glory days, before it took off in cn
>>
>>59415892
What a bullshit dood. 7850/3570k here, pre-2015 games runs great on medium/low@1080p no aa >60fps mostly. 2016-2017 titles seems to totally annihilate fps, can't run shit at ultralow 1080p@60 anymore.
>>
4870 with the always damned drivers.
>>
>>59415077
Probably the card with the longest lasting relevance out of all cards ever released
>>
>>59415077
I still love it. Best overall amd gpu I've ever bought even when considering the driver issues I've been through.

I reinstall it when I sell my gpu, and it still works well enough pretty much... kinda dated now though but it makes gpu transitions not horrible.
>>
>>59416016
because it's already extended

Still rocking a 6970 2gb here
Shit just works and can do 1080p gaming just foine
>>
My last system had a Sapphire 7950 In it with only 1 working fan. Still was able to play GTA 5 on high for hours on end, although it did heat my room in the process.

Nvidia changes their architecture more frequently.

> 2010: Fermi - first SIMT, good GPGPU (16-wide SIMD = very granular), but housefires
> 2012: Kepler - scaled back GPGPU (32-wide SIMD), unified clocks for lower power, fixed latency ALU pipeline to simplify instruction scheduling
> 2014: Maxwell - even further simplified scheduling, tiling rasterizers to improve cache locality, better color compression
> 2016: Pascal - very little added this time except in the geometry setup stage for VR plus variable resolution shading

vs.

> 2012: GCN - first SIMT: coarse-grained (4*16-way SIMD)
> 2013: GCN g2 - added Shader Engine groupings of smaller components but fundamentally really the same as g1
> 2014: GCN g3 - added color compression (not as effective as Maxwell's), more tessellation, and some new ALU instructions, and a hardware work scheduler for self-managed async
> 2016: GCN g4 - better DCC and geometry throughput, slightly improved instruction fetching, full-rate fp16

The biggest changes are in ALU organization and scheduling, which Nvidia did a couple times and AMD not really at all since 2012.
You could argue that Nvidia is being more responsive in shaping their chips to the changing needs of the market, but it's easy to see why they can't share software/driver optimization efforts as easily across generations.

>>59415077
Currently running it in my budget build with X5460
>>
>>59415077
I still use my HD7970 in one of my setups and a 7950 in another. Love them
>>
>>59415217
Got both the 2GB 5850 and a 7950. These things just keep on giving.
>>
I was using a 7950 up to last year, and despite being a huge piece of shit quality-wise because Sapphire had nonexistent VRM cooling and a massive stock overvolt, it handled absolutely everything I threw at it, MGSV included at mostly-maxed settings

Old AMD cards you say?
>>

It's the 8800GT of it's era
>>
My old laptop, may he rest in peace, has a 7670M. What's the desktop equivalent of that? 6670?
