Why is Microsoft allowed to have a monopoly on office suite software?
>>

Because it's the only actual good one.

Allowed by who? What or whom do you propose stop the monopoly?

Because IT teachers let them. Because companies let them.
>>
>>59412136
its not like photoshop vs gimp case where photoshop is much better (gimp is a piece of shit by design)

libreoffice lets you export to msoffice extensions and its doing probably 80% of what msoffice can do
>>
>>59412043
what's the problem when you can just torrent it for free?
>>
>>59412166
online activation basically.
i know you have keygens that let you crack with phone code or someshit but its a fucking trojan
>>
>>59412158
Yeah, and at least LibreOffice has a much more classic design instead of having that shitty ass ribbon.

I personally don't have a problem with GIMP, honestly, but than again, I'm not a professional artist.
>>
>>59412158
Gimp is great. I haven't used Adobe software in a decade and I recommend other people do the same. They don't even sell software anymore.

Eh, the last thing it was useful for me for was setting up Satellaview Zelda games on my laptop, since the instructions come in docx format.

So basically it's useful for when readmes come in an Office format.

>>59412112
I only have that shit on my phone because LibreOffice Mobile doesn't let you create new documents and Microsoft Office Mobile is fucking account-based.
>>
>>59412212
Yeah the only thing from Adobe I still have installed is Flash Player because things like Shumway and Gnash weren't complete enough for me and these days I don't even really need the Flash Player anymore I just keep it for rewatching old animations and playing old games I guess.

Well after Oracle bought Sun it was announced they were killing off OpenOffice. This led to the creation of LibreOffice and the formation of The Document Foundation. Afterwards Oracle sold OpenOffice to Apache but I think The Document Foundation has given more of a shit about LibreOffice development than Apache has given to OpenOffice development.

LibreOffice is a shitty Office alternative that's worth every cent.

The monopoly was created by the government by using MS office and requiring it in schools

LibreOffice also has relatively more vulnerabilities compared to Office (walled garden aside)

Things like libreoffice and openoffice are complete shit because no one else uses them. MS Office has the benefit of being well established, and the alternatives will never be able to achieve that.

I remember hearing one anon say that his resume formatting was being fucked due to the differences between libre and MS Word, and that it probably cost him job interviews before he discovered it.

>inb4 duplicated keys
I've been making a living out of idiots for years that bring in their PCs to upgrade them to Win10 with the latest Office Suit, and so far nobody bawled their eyes on me that it stopped working and shit.

Win10 Pro = 15$
Office 2016 Pro Plus = 30$
Charge 150~200$ for this

Sick margins, there are people that complain that it's expensive, then I show them that it would cost around 500$ anywhere else with the same two products, they instantly shut up.
>>
Am i the only one who likes abword more?

I can get it for free, but I'd rather not install and use that bloated mess.
I did install it recently for testing and I couldn't find a way to disable it from trying to go online. I checked all the settings.

>>59427645
Abiword was pretty nice, fast and small, but it's abandonware now. Also not an office suite.

Use libre office. Sometimes the Power Point equivalent has compability problems with Power Point, but you can just export the presentation as a PDF and then revert it back to .ppt or use google documents. Also you can run libreoffice in a pen drive without problems .
>>
>Why is Microsoft allowed to have a monopoly on office suite software?

Is anyone being forced at gunpoint to make the purchase?

No.

Is there other software available that does similar tasks as those aspects of Office itself that are cheaper in price or completely free of monetary cost?

Yes.

Hence, not a monopoly, and monopolies are not illegal, you stupid fucking person.
