I've used Debian, but I've heard Mint is a good distro for moving off of Windows.

Ubuntu Mate or Linux Mint Mate. I prefer Mint, myself. Both work great with steam. I play CS:GO without issue.

Honestly just download a linux distro and try it out. A lot of them have features windows lack.
Unless there are programs/features from windows you know you 100% need, linux is surprisingly nice.
